Ok, so do we know when the ACTUAL Open Beta/Free Trial is?

JMadisonIVJMadisonIV Member Posts: 282

It's fairly obvious to me now, that DF is not a "scam" in the manner of "the game doesn't exist and you'll never play it.", but it isn't "finished" either.   It does exist in a mass-playable format, but it isn't finished or ready to launch at all.

What we have here is merely another phase of Closed Beta. It's not a "free trial" no matter how many people scream that it is. They just opened up Closed Beta to more people. Free Trials don't have NDAs attached to them and are available to anyone who wants one, not a select few.

so, let's all just be realistic here, and take this for what it is, an expansion of Closed Beta.

my question is, do we have any idea when the ACTUAL Free Trial/Open Beta period will be?

I'm willing to wait to try this game out, but if they are still in Closed Beta less than a month from release, I worry about the state of the game quality-wise.  perhaps it is a good idea to push the official release back another month or two, lest they make the same mistake other MMO devs make and release a buggy, unfinished game.

thoughts?

yes tsaos said it was a free trial, it was obviously not the right choice of words because it is in fact still a closed beta with just more people getting invited.

To answer your question no we dont know when the actual free trial open beta is

No.. there have been no announcments as to win any type of open beta/free trail will happen from anyone from Aventurine. Tasos said free trial once I believe but its not really a free trial if its under NDA so as to our opinion to what a free trial is.. no announcment yet. And I think the Darkfall "trolls" are on a consensus that Darkfall itself isn't vaporware but just a game that has a very poor PR staff....  thats atleast my opinion anyway, I never thought the game was fake just badly publicized.

Guess if the community had not skyrocketed that would have been more of a trial ...

If thats would have been my game ..you know the Hitler wants a beta key video.."everyone who has played WoW, WAR or AoC ..." lol

there wont be (unless they manage to get all their server stuff sorted out).  Currently there wont be a free test (for those that did not get into the beta) but i would say they will add more and more poeple (to test stability) until they find their limits then try and upgrade that.

basically there wont be a free trial for many of us but with a couple of thousand people in beta (or a couple of hundred) there should be plenty of info out there for you to decide whether to buy or not.

This meets their commitment to a free trail, whether we agree that this is a valid claim or not. They have done what they said they would. So, I would not expect anything else. If you want to see the game, you are going to have to put down your money (preferably in a preorder) and take your chances, just like everyone else.

They want to simulate the launch of the game. So expect them to invite an amount of people that would sufficiently mimic what it wuold be like to have a full server on day one. ie if a server holds 10,000 then their aim is probably to have 15 - 20,000 people invited to try and get as close to that 10k online as possible.

On day one of the game there would probably be 9,500 online out of 10,000 but it's beta so it will be harder to get as many people online at once therefore they will invite more to try and simulate it.

That's how i see it anyway.

You are not going to see a fully open free trial for anyone and everyone, there is too much demand to play and apparently they aren't going to launch enough servers to comfortably accommodate 300k+ players. They also don't want to commit the limited manpower they have to deal with the inevitable server issues which would accompany such volume.

Basically if you don't get a closed beta invite, you are gonna have to fork over the money to buy the client based on good faith and what you hear from people who have beta tested. Since they are going to launch with limited entries based on preorders initially, you can either wait til they add more servers or preorder to ensure an earlier start.

I have waited too long for a MMOG with the rulesets and mechanics as described for Darkfall so I am willing to take the risk. I just don't see any other MMOG alternative worth playing.

I honestly didn't expect more till the 22nd update, which said stress testing was only the first phase of the trial period (i thought it was its only purpose) so we may see a lot more people in than expected. Of course, not everyone, or even close to everyone, will ever be allowed into trial, they can't even handle a luanch with 200k people, forget an open "beta/trial" (which will undoubtedly be MUCH bigger)

the devs have been everything but honest, so this is a downright stupid move. Did you also take your "chances" on WAR, AoC, Vangaurd, and Dark and Light?

The "no other mmog" alternative thing isn't a good excuse, because it was true for all the other games i mentioned earlier... and those games were so bad... there WAS an mmog alternative (shadowbane)

The new patch is encouraging, but aventurine has been very unproffessional throughout their development, their relationship with their fanbase will either get much better after launch, or they will go bankrupt.

They aren't going to go bankrupt unless it's intentional as part of a scam. Either the game sucks or it doesn't, but they will walk away with enough money from initial client sales to be happy. I am willing to take a $50 loss especially since it's been almost four years since I subscribed to any MMOG. There has been nothing worth subscribing to that has released in the last four years for me and I have tested almost everything out there that didn't initially disgust me from it's description.

I knew WAR and AoC would suck, just more theme park crap. I was interested in both Dark and Light and Vanguard early on, but realized they were problematic before spending money on the client.

I feel there is enough evidence to suggest Darkfall will meet my desires. You of course need to make that decision for yourself.

lol actually it wasn't me that said "The dev's PR with the players will either get better after launch, or they will go bankrupt in 3 months", it was Hammin'em (forumfall mod), after made a thread showing concerns how bad PR (w/ players especially)can ruin games post launch.

If the leaks continue to remain positive and we start seeing videos as well I doubt that everyone who wants to will even get to buy the game at launch let alone a free trial.  I highly doubt they will be able to support 250k + people on launch day, not that I hold that against them as it's to be expected for a small dev.

And he has a point that I have been saying all along. The players are the biggest PR/Advertising campaign a game can have. The game could be the most awesome thing ever created, but if the player community is nothing but dicks it wont matter.

It doesnt matter how much info is out there, how many newb sites there are to help a player get into the game or how many features a game has. If you have a community that sucks, the game will suffer.

There are 3 types of people in the world.
1.) Those who make things happen
2.) Those who watch things happen
3.) And those who wonder "What the %#*& just happened?!"

There's nothing wrong with the community, it's great.  If you don't like it thats fair enough, thats your opinion.

    /facepalm

No one is saying the community is bad. It was a point that -IF- a community is bad it can reflect on -A GAME- as a whole.

Here we have a shining example what the community acts like.

If you are typical then the game is doomed to failure with your screw you noob care bears, go play another game attitude you continously put forth.

It is a stress test, 10K is a save limit (Server function perfect for EU and decent for US) this mean it will be able to hold a lot more poeple. So I figure they will invite more poeple up to the point of breaking. They might find out there server can handle, without a problem 15K of poeple.

In short, no.  We do not know when the OB or free trial will take place.  The only dates that you will hear are pure speculation.

  • stayontargetstayontarget Member RarePosts: 6,519

Well from Tasos the game will go live Feb 25, so forget about a traditional OB or trial open to everyone. Its not gonna happen.
