The Monkey Island series (LucasArts) had cartoon graphics; I enjoyed all three of those games. MI3 was the most absurd, and one of the best. Solving the puzzles in that game playing thru the first time with no cheats was fairly challenging and fun.
Honestly, I guess graphics for me are nothing to cry over unless the game looks and plays like WURM Online. Robotech was a cartoon, but had a pretty immersive and deep story to it. Just because the graphics aren't exactly what you picture, does not mean the game won't be a great game.

I am going to feel much more immersed in a Star Wars game if it actually looks like Star Wars(the movies). Not extremely awesome graphics, but realistic models, textures, ect.

The graphics really disappointed me. One of the things that I really enjoyed about the KOTOR games was that you could feel immersed in the game world. In my opinion, graphics play a huge part in that.
This is a huge minus for me. I was seriously looking for some good graphics (like in LOTOR). Its not impossible to make it accessible to lots of systems.
I will not get the same immersion from KOTOR 3 as I got from KOTOR 1 and 2 because of these graphics.

Ah, I would be pissed too if I bought a rig for just those games. But I build my uberleet gaming rig for any and all gaming to be done on the PC, as that is my primary(practically only) gaming system I play on.

Well look on the bright side, most developers are making games not so high tech so they can capitalize on all the saps with less than stellar PCs, so your new shiny high end PC will last much longer than usual!
Bought a new one also for LOTRO and 2 years later still plays everything new on max settings with no issues. A few years before I'd have had to already upgrade. The rate its going my PC will last another 2-3+ years if not longer I hope!
SWG looks good in screen shots, but then when you are playing, it looks terrible, blocky, jumpy, gross. Games with more "cartoony" styles end up feeling more immersive, because when you are trying to make something look realistic and then do it poorly, it looks terrible.

SWG used to have very nice, fluent animations for when people used abilities, but those were wiped away in favor of particle effects when the NGE hit.
When you try to do any style of graphics and do it poorly it is going to look bad, so assigning that to realistic graphics doesn't hold water.

Oh God.. This game looks so bad. jesus christ. Look at those mountain. The scenery. It is sooo world of warcraft like.
Gaaah.. I can't believe so many SWG fans have been waiting for this. Im glad I never did. This is pathetic. I hail SOE for fighting Lucasarts and keeping at least some of the SWG spirit and continue to work on it.
This game is total bs. These screens prove it. its a wow clone. its exactly what Lucasarts wanted with the NGE. Their broad playerbase. .. a dumbed down cookie cutter themepark mmo. tskt sk.. wonderful. Just wonderful.
TOR sucks. .. Open your eyes. SWG lives. The EMU is dead. TOR is a let down. But SWG is being updated and they are improving the game with every patch. Populations are stable and climbing at certain seasons of the year. SOE made a terrible mistake, but they made up for it a long time ago and they are going strong.

I tend to hate when these companies go for realistic graphics, the motion of the characters ends up sucking for some reason, especially jumping animations, and they end up just looking more fake then real to me.

Those graphics look horrible. The lightsabers don't look right(blades to short and handle to big) while the landscape lacks punch. I know graphics aren't the be all in a good game, but geez, the clone wars series looks more real than that.

So far the graphics, or "art style" in TOR iscompletely uninspiring, childish, and unfitting for the Star Wars universe. They should have just stuck to the graphics they used in KotOR.
The sad thing is, SWG being 5 years old looks better than the new TOR screenshots.

Since it's been said officially that January was basically completely dedicated to Art/Style, it only makes sense that this month was mostly screenshots, concept arts and interviews to that effect.
Next month will have a different theme, and one can hope they'll put emphasis on systems/mechanics/classes etc.
As for the screenshots so far. I like what I'm seeing. Not the best I've ever seen, certainly, but I am comfortable with it, as in, I'm certain I'll be able to enjoy playing the game with these style of graphics.

Because complaining over SWG for 4 years did so much good for vets. TOR is built now, it is what it is, good luck changing the direction now. I was posting on their forums about mechanics I wanted to see from SWG and other MMO games back in early 2006 when they first announced they were making an MMO. Where you you? I just know when to except what is offered or not play it all. If I dislike it, I’ll move on to something else like normal humans without emotional issues do. I’ve yet to play it so I can’t really judge it fully, but I expect it won’t suck as bad as the launch of SWG back in 2003 because I’m an optimist, not a depressing pessimist like yourself. Anyone else tired of having to see crappy graphics in MMOs(or PC games in general) because people can't keep their computers up to date? /sigh.
I'm more pissed at myself for buying the ultimate gaming rig to play AOC & WAR.....

I agree with you, graphics are definitely not everything, and not even the most important feature of a game. But, graphics do induce some immersive feelings. I am going to feel much more immersed in a Star Wars game if it actually looks like Star Wars(the movies). Not extremely awesome graphics, but realistic models, textures, ect.
I wouldn't care really if the graphics were the only things that aren't how I think they should be, but it's more along the lines of "just another" thing that I think they are doing wrong.
Well they want it to run on as many computers as possible(lol EA and LucasArts)so thats why its all cartoony. If BioWare was making this game by themselfs it would probaly be alot more realistic.
True to a point. They use the "cartoonyness" to hide the low poly count. The cartoon look isn't necessary to be accessible and runnable on more computers, it's just a way to hide them doing it. What they really should do is make it realistic looking and very scalable.

Ah, I would be pissed too if I bought a rig for just those games. But I build my uberleet gaming rig for any and all gaming to be done on the PC, as that is my primary(practically only) gaming system I play on.

Well look on the bright side, most developers are making games not so high tech so they can capitalize on all the saps with less than stellar PCs, so your new shiny high end PC will last much longer than usual!
Bought a new one also for LOTRO and 2 years later still plays everything new on max settings with no issues. A few years before I'd have had to already upgrade. The rate its going my PC will last another 2-3+ years if not longer I hope!
SWG looks good in screen shots, but then when you are playing, it looks terrible, blocky, jumpy, gross. Games with more "cartoony" styles end up feeling more immersive, because when you are trying to make something look realistic and then do it poorly, it looks terrible.
These graphics are good.
SWG used to have very nice, fluent animations for when people used abilities, but those were wiped away in favor of particle effects when the NGE hit.
When you try to do any style of graphics and do it poorly it is going to look bad, so assigning that to realistic graphics doesn't hold water.

I tend to hate when these companies go for realistic graphics, the motion of the characters ends up sucking for some reason, especially jumping animations, and they end up just looking more fake then real to me.
Anyways the game looks good to me hopefully it comes out soon!

I kinda feel sorry for Bioware, not in any forum for any game have I ever see a bigger bunch of pathetic whiners for a game that is so far from release. First of all, no one brought up SWG but you. Second of all, that is a horrific screenshot of SWG that was either taken with a horrible graphics card or changed in some way. Here is a real picture of what lightsabers looked like in swg...
So far the graphics, or "art style" in TOR iscompletely uninspiring, childish, and unfitting for the Star Wars universe. They should have just stuck to the graphics they used in KotOR.
The sad thing is, SWG being 5 years old looks better than the new TOR screenshots.
Good observation. I don't know why that poster decided to bring up that game or where he got that obviously faux photo of SWG. I played that game for 2.5 years and lightsabers never looked like what he posted. Guess some people feel the need to lie when their argument fails.
I think they'd be better off just sticking with the graphics from KOTOR than what they're doing. KOTOR graphics was very immersive and really made you feel like you were in the star wars universe even though you were not familiar with any of the characters in the game.I fail to see how graphics from a game that is 6 years old could tax low end systems or be a LAG killer in an MMO.

You expect them to reveal everything so soon?
ramping up this Feb, you'll get classes, with hints at other systems I bet. The next month will expand on classes, and other mechanics. Just a guess.
Since it's been said officially that January was basically completely dedicated to Art/Style, it only makes sense that this month was mostly screenshots, concept arts and interviews to that effect.
Next month will have a different theme, and one can hope they'll put emphasis on systems/mechanics/classes etc.
As for the screenshots so far. I like what I'm seeing. Not the best I've ever seen, certainly, but I am comfortable with it, as in, I'm certain I'll be able to enjoy playing the game with these style of graphics.

Because complaining over SWG for 4 years did so much good for vets. TOR is built now, it is what it is, good luck changing the direction now. I was posting on their forums about mechanics I wanted to see from SWG and other MMO games back in early 2006 when they first announced they were making an MMO. Where you you? Off complaining someplace else about something you can’t change? Like the color of the sky?
I just know when to except what is offered or not play it all. If I dislike it, I’ll move on to something else like normal humans without emotional issues do. I’ve yet to play it so I can’t really judge it fully, but I expect it won’t suck as bad as the launch of SWG back in 2003 because I’m an optimist, not a depressing pessimist like yourself. Just like with SWG, if it sucks, I don’t waste my time talking about for hours upon hours like others still do.
