This is pure speculation..
If Mythic for some reason goes bankrupt, who do you think would buy WAR?
For example do you think Blizzard would buy it and use the engine to make some other, better MMO?
And could the new owner legally shut down the servers? I'm asking because I'm worried about my toons, which I spent a lot of time leveling.

No one would buy it because the game and engine is a complete failure. There is not one good part about the game.
Looking for a new game to play
You need to preface your remarks by saying they are your personal opinion and have no basis in reality.
I play WAR and enjoy it. To me, neither the game nor the game engine are a failure. I play every night, and there are always people ingame, and the scenarios are always hotly contested.
The game may be a failure for you, but to a lot of other people, it's not.
Why do you keep posting these idiotic threads? While the game still has some problems, they are nowhere near fatal or causing the game to close. Mythic has been very good at addressing the problems, and I expect to be playing for quiet a while.
And, yes, the owner can shut the game down anytime they want. Witness Tabula Rasa that will close in February.

Hold on there.. Idiotic? I think there is a reason to be concerned when stuff like this start to happen.

You realize you are not going to make AOC look good by posting crap in the forums of other games. EA/Mythic is a huge company and has 1000's of employees. It's not some no-name company from Norway with no other titles.
EA might shut WAR down if it proves to be unprofitable, they've done so before.
But no one will ever be buying out WAR, if it folds it will be gone for good.
And Blizzard has absolutely no reason to buy anyone elses hand me down games. They've got more than enough resources to develop their own in their own style from the ground up.

Simple Answer: No One.

Well besides the fact that Mythic is a very well run company and was doing fine on there own and why EA bought them. If Mythic were to close EA might as well give up on MMO's. I would say another publisher would take them if they could there past sucess leads you to belive they will be in the future.
No one would buy the company for the game engine thats useless pretty fast. but the company itself has some worth.
All this is a moot point tho as im playing new toons im seeing a pretty constant influx of new players asking annoying newb questions id say its growing.
i bet GW wishes Mythic would go bankrupt after what they have done with this title. to me its a waste of a good IP, there is so much to the warhammer universe and mythic turns it into a frag fest with no depth.
I wish a smart company would have gotten the rights. so that while the game could still be focused on PVP, it wouldn't become a dumbed down frag fest only. maybe the game would actually to other types of playstyles besides those that want to jump in melt faces and log off.
O_o
If Mythic was "doing fine on their own" then there would have been no reason whatsoever to sell the company, especially with a potential hit (at the time) like WAR on their hands. They ran out of money to finish the game, pure and simple and purely based on my own reasoning and no facts whatsoever.
ScamMan...please go back to the AoC forums.

EA is a company who buys companies, where there is a profit to be gained. This are normaly well running companies and not companies who do not function well to begin with. I mean BioWare (Bulders Gate, Mass Affect) Mythic (DOAC, WAR) and Maxis (Sim City, sims) where companies who where doing good when EA brought them.
EDIT:
Did some looking into this.
Westwood was brought for 122.5 million dollar and controled 5 - 6% of the PC market by that time. I mean that is good. Hope I have manage to change you opinion by actualy presenting fact.
if that would happen, what i doubt, don't think blizzard would ever buy warhammer. they already have their "warhammer" called "warcraft"- that has far more success. the only company with a track record of buying others mmo's is sony, but even that is pushing odds a bit.

Not really, having a certain market percentage does not mean your company can't be in trouble. I'll agree sometimes successful companies are bought up. But then again not usually if they have a potential blockbuster (err game version of that lol) on their hands.
I have flashes of MJ talking about how the funds EA could put into the game allowed them to spend more time on things etc but I can't seem to find them(probably on the Vnboards somewhere >.<). Considering the state of the game *after* a year extended release(opinions differ but I think most can agree it could have used some more time in a few areas) I personally don't think they would have had the resources to make the game halfway decent if they hadn't had EA's backing, therefor to me that = "in trouble"
All speculation of course but that's fun to do ^^
What a useless thread...
Well if all this happens in which the way the economy is going who knows at the end of the day, the only MMO left might be WOW, and their subscription county might hit 20 millions. Be careful what you wish for :P
If WAR were to do badly enough that EA or Mythic decided to cut it loose, what happens would depend on a whole lot of legal mumbo that no one here is privy to. Never forget that GW owns the IP and I am sure attached some mighty tough strings to it when they signed on.
Aside from that, EA is unlikely to cut Mythic loose unless EA closes up shop totally. Mythic is a solid studio with lots of other potential uses.
If (and its a pretty big if) WAR is doing badly enough in 12-18months that it is in danger of closing, a likely possible outcome would be GW reacquiring control and dumping it on that THQ-spinoff which is working on the 40K MMO and whoever they are distributing through...but something like that is a really really long odds bet.
Likeliest, WAR is doing "okay", enough happy subs to keep the lights on and keep the checks from bouncing for the next 2 years+, probably longer...it eventually gets shuffled to the backseat when Mythic moves to a new project.
WAR uses the Unreal grapic engine...so it's not theirs to sell
And by the way, please move on...to the Darkfall forums and troll them for abit.
I'll go back to playing WAR with my growing and prosperous guild.
IJJI/aeriagames. Both seem to buy failing MMO's xD
GW "reacquiring" control? Not a chance, I highly doubt the strings attached are in any way that strong, people overestimate the control GW has over the game as a whole. As an IP sure, they make sure they don't put in flying superheroes in pink wetpants or something but as far as the game itself and closure/no closure goes, I *highly* doubt that's in GW's hands.
Thats an easy one, SOE would buy it of course.
Not that WAR is any kind of financial trouble at all, and the number of players on my server and most of them are fine anyway.

I'm sure someone would just because of the Warhammer name. I don't see it happening for a long time though, it may not be bringing in WOW numbers but it's one of the few decent MMO's on the market atm. Before the times of WOW, the numbers WAR is holding now isn't "that" bad dude.
Unfortunatley, both EA and Funcom are not doing great right now. I hope that neither WAR or AoC closes down, a lot of players like those games but it is not impossible. But I doubt it it will happen 2009, 2010 is more likely then.
PC gaming have lost a lot to consoles lately and the entire world economy is going crap so some MMO companies will die. My bet is more to Cheyenne mountain however but EA have killed MMOs before so it is not impossible. But it all depends on how well WAR do in 2009, if the game will slowly lose subs the whole year things would be extremly bad, but if Mythic turns things around and start gaining subs again things will look bright. I don't see the closing as a probable thing but it is not unlikely. AoC have started gaining players lately and WAR needs to do that too, butit will hopefully happen soon as Mythic keeps tweaking the game, the slide have almost stopped now so one or 2 good patches and the game should be starting to gain players. Of course Mythic can mess it up also, who knows?
Personally I had rather Mythic made Daoc 2 and left Warhammer to some other company because I am a fan of Warhammer and the game is quite far from the RPG and tabletop, but it is kinda like seeing a movie after reading the book and there are many parts of the world I really miss from the RPG, they totaly cut out the dark horror theme that is a big part of Warhammer. And the level thing goeas against everything that GW worked so hard with (I played Warhammer fantasy roleplaying game for 18 years).
All that said I really don't think WAR is a bad game and wishes them good luck. I don't see any other company buying WAR the next 5 years, maybe DaoC.
Where did you find time away from schilling AOC to level characters in WAR? Inquiring minds want to know!
Nobody would buy it.
