I really thought this would be my next game. I wanted it to be my next game. I even paid for the premium membership before I started playing to boost my karma.
Unfortunately, a few hours in I was cursing myself for paying the money before trying the game.
It wasn't the content, bots, spammers, or so-so graphics that killed it for me though.. I could overlook that.
It wasn't even the fact that I couldn't use my nostromo as an ergonomic input device, although after the game closed and accused me of cheating because I had one it really ticked me off.
It was after disabling my nostromo and returning to my retro keyboard style of play I realized that I couldn't even bind any of the keyboard keys that I wanted. I normally play with the arrow keys while using the right ctrl and right shift button for jump/duck/use... important stuff. No dice... you can't use those keys.
The final straw as I was trying to comprehend why I couldn't but grasping to straws to configure a somewhat usable interface was to use my mouse 3, 4, and 5 for jump/use/duck, etc...
You guessed it... you can not use anything other than mouse 1 & 2.
IMO this game slit it's own throat so concentrating on keeping out bots and macros that regular people cant even play the damn game.
Oh, and from all their efforts what did they get? More bots and gold spammers than regular players.
This game is a 10 year old Honda Civic with a new paint job and handling of a horse and buggy.

saw this pop up on the front and figured I would jump in for some lulz, but srsly the OP raises a good point. A game shouldnt have so much protection that it becomes "uncomfortable" for the end users.
I did try this game when it was in beta, and I could use my n52 then, to bad they changed that b/c I (and all of the people i play with) use one and If a game were to not support it, we sure as hell would'nt even look in its general direction.
I agree, some of the security in this game is a bit much. The PIN is a great piece of security to prevent fishing and botting. It stops botters from being able to use multiple client instances. Also the client itself is very difficult to manipulate. If you do manage to unpack it, you cant actually do anything with the data. All the key components are encrypted, and you can't repack the client since Gravity used an in-house repackaging software.
With that said, Gameguard should be unneeded in this game. Gameguard works by preventing any additional input programs. Its been bypassed for years and offers no hurdles for people playing illegally. It only hurts the people that want to enhance thier gameplay with gamepads and system performance. It is known that Gamepads can be used to create and run a macro program in order to bot. However, with the additional security features, tracking down and banning these users is vastly easier then in other mmos. I know I would like to use a controller instead, set up keys for common combinations used in game. Such as pressing Tab+F in 1 key, G+H in another key would be perfect.

People more and more... simply can't man up. And accept that this is just how it is.... but they just rather QQ.
I rather have a game with more security then... getting bombed to death with bot's..... silkroad anyone??????? Especially if it mean's.. not being able to use a said device.

Gosh, I thought these boards were for discussing your likes and dislikes with a game. He didn't come off as whiny, actually you did a good job of that yourself. The OP also brought up valid points.

I certainly did think I was whining per se as much as giving a personal critique about the game. Certain aspects of a game are more important to some people than others. For example: I really do not enjoy PVP, but joy in PVE, gathering, working the economy, and completing as much quest-ish content as possible. Others hate all of those aspects and just assume level quickly and PVP. There are many variations and none of them are wrong.
One aspect of a game that is important to me, and obviously some others, is the method of interfacing with the game. Ideally I don't have to think about the interface at all so I am not distracted and can completely immerse myself within the content. Not being able to use ergonomic devices which are partially made to do just that is a negative for me. Not being able to use more than two mouse buttons, or even remap keys in addition are a deal breaker. If you find this an inferior play style than so be it; if you feel better playing with only vowel keys and no mouse than go for it!
If my particular observations are not important to your style than please disregard, disagree, or; gasp, give some constructive advice. I *have* accepted this game how it is and I'm taking my time and money elsewhere.

I could live without the N52, but to not even be able to remap keys on your keyboard...that is unnacceptable in todays games. Especially an MMO.

Who said you cant remap keys on your keyboard? I am perfectly playing with arrow keys instead of WASD ,and customized lots of other controls. So where is the problem?
I'm right handed so I mouse with my right hand.
My left hand on the arrow keys basically leaves my pinky open for tapping the RT-CTRL, RT-Shift, and Enter key without contorting my hand in an odd shape. Of those keys, the ctrl and shift could not be mapped. Throw in that my 5 button mouse could only use 2 of the 5 buttons and thats a problem for me as I like to have at least three fingers on the arrow keys for movement.
Again, I'm not saying that everyone would be bothered by this but no nostromo + no ctrl or shift map + no mouse buttons 3-5 was three strikes for me personally.
How do you have your keys mapped with the arrow keys?
