Never played AoC but i want to give it a shot

Hello all, i've tried AoC once but that was the open beta, and i couldn't get the game run smooth (1fps) on my HD3850 512mb.. i dunno what was wrong then i was playing on low settings too.
So i've got to the beach and there i've quit the game.
Now that i see so many positive posts, and AoC is only €12, i would like to give it a try i like PvP so i don't know what this game can bring me.
Am i able to play the game on highest settings? i got a 2,9ghz DuoCore CPU, a HD4870 1gb extra cooled. 2gb DDR2 (Windows XP) on 1920x1200 on 16 AF + 4x AA
and will it be fun to level to 80, in some games it's like i MUST level to max as soon as possible or i won't have fun.

You'll kill the game at high with that rig. It doesn't take that much to run AoC on high anymore. Have fun.

I can write a long post about all the fantastic things in AoC, but hell I say check it out yourself. If you read all the posts from other returning players you should feel pretty comfortable paying those Euros for this game.

I have similar specs to you, main difference being 4gb of ram but I also use vista, and I run it on maxed out except shadows (as I don't really notice the difference ) and 2xAA and on average get 40-50fps. So you should have no worries in that regard. I do get the occasional stutter since and bugs on the 8.12 drivers and this never happened before this but those drivers have been getting a lot of issues and complaints and rumor has it drivers 9.1 have been delayed as they try and sort out the issues with it. 8.11 is running better for me and personally and I blame ati for the problems with it. 9.1 should be out soon though so keep an eye out for that.
Have read it, thanks alot will buy the game tomorrow, oh just a question, when i tried a trial Funcom asked me for my Creditcard, which i do not have, only a bankcard, so i think i'll buy with a Gamecard However, do i still need a Creditcard to activate my account? or can it be done through a Gamecard too?
Have no clue about what a gamecard is (perhaps some other of the experts know), BUT I know this much, you have to give some kind of credit card info to identify yourself. Otherwise you cold be goldfarmer on account spree.

That's kinda lame.. iam 18 years old, but even people in my country (the netherlands) do not have creditcards most of them, we use bank transfer, so do i. Nice way to hold back costumers, but i do agree with kids though, look at WoW.. but alright.
I think it can be activated with gamecard (why not?). I am not sure, because I also used credit card to activate it.

So you have a debit card? If you have, try to activate the account with it. Worked for me.
I believe some debit cards work while others don't.
I've been googling around, and saw multiple people saying it can be activated with a Gamecard, instead of giving CC info at start, anyone can confirm this please?
When the game launched i had to use my credit card even tho i didnt want to because ebgames had not received game cards yet, i desactivated my payment method(credit card) as soon as my account was unfrozen.
But that was when the game launched, so i don't know if they fixed it by now, hopefully.
But i reactivated my account with a time card today without any problem.
I made a topic similar to this yesterday and i decided to give it a shot. In all honesty so far i'm having a blast, the story is badass, the combat is badass, the quests are interesting and the game looks amazing.
I have a similar rig to yours and the game runs perfectly at maxed out settings, always 40-60 fps.
I can't tell you about end game content yet cause i haven't got there, but so far the game is awesome. Don't beleive the people saying the game is dead either, it's 7am(Yeah, late nighter) and i just got off, there was about 30 people in tortage(Starting area) and there was a bunch of of people pvping in a random dungeon i had to get into for a quest. While questing i ran into different people all the time. Honestly i was surprised.
Right now i'm testing both pvp and pve servers before i pick on for good.

Depending on where you live you may have other options for payment than prepaid cards or credit cards.
I for one am Belgian, and I can pay by using my bank's (Fortis) online banking (PC banking), which essentially comes down to making a wire transfer, but without the delay that usually comes with those, so it's pretty much instantaneous.
I'm about 99% sure there is an equivalent option for German users, and I'd imagine there must be similar methods available in other countries.
Yes you can do it with a gamecard there is an option in set up for it.

Thanks for the post everyone, it's amazing that none actually trolled with 'keep away from this fail' for example.
There is only one PvP server and one RP-PvP server for each language in europe. So if you like some RP in game, choose RP-PvP, if you only like fight without words choose PvP.

I've bought the game today with a gamecard, and i succesfully made an account
Now the next thing... when i wanted to see my Payment history, just to see if it took my gamecard which i entered at start, i saw nothing. And when i tried to add a gamecard, it said 'No offer found for given key' which is kinda frustrating.
Havn't installed the game yet, as i will do it now (32gb + updates lol xD) meanwhile, i think i'll head over to the AoC forum just to ask about the gamecard issue.

EDIT: I just saw in my Main account page that the next payment date is ' 2009-04-28' so it seems it used the gamecard fine

2) I am playing on RP-PVP, but if you dont know anyone in AoC you should maybe try new PvP server Skullcrusher, that was opened after merges for newcomers.
Maybe its not that full right now, but it can be good opportunity how to start with PvP server. If you dont mind dying and you like a lot of people
that will be killing you, Fury is allways opened
Anyway I beleive you will find someone to play with on both servers.

Okay so a day after i bought the game, and iam having a blast! i've joined a really fun guild, i've got a lvl 17 Dark Templar now, i've had my first PvP match in White Beach, and i've had a good fight, and actually won
But now at lvl 17, i've had some serious issues with a few quests, one in Tortage Underhall, where i got one shotted by a lvl 19 ranger = and got killed in 3 seconds by a Guardian, while i had defensive stance on.. so mehhh
Rangers are really ridiculous at those low levels. A level 19 ranger usually has no trouble immobilizing a couple guys and killing them all on their own. That changes a lot latter on, but just so you know. Playing on a PvP server, I just make it a habit to always group with somebody so we can watch each other's backs, but in white sands a ranger could easily take us all anyway.
I had to refeat a few times to deal with the experts. Don't be tempted to only go for damage on the DT. Go for a good deal of protection and be sure to have a few emergency pots in your pocket. Be sure the other guys do

Dont do it FUNCOM is a ripoff with no control over their game or their employees just in case you missed it in the other thread i had a customer support issue and all companies say we wont ask you for account details etc right?

Copy of photo ID? They sure didn't need photo ID to take my card details to buy the game so why now? Fraud maybe?
