i have been mmorpging since i was 8 and ive donea lot of em i mastered DAOC, did diablo 2, evercrack, anarchy online, ultima online. the list goes on. i am getting slightly bored cus everytime i open a new MMORPG it feels like hte same stuff witha different theme items and slightly varyinglevel of depth. i heard eq2 is going to have talking npc's as in voice but that just sounds like it could get really bad easy. cus it would be hard to hire a individual voice over for EVERY npc in a huge, so voice overs will be a joke ocmpared to single player games. but other then that and the cool mouse control system iun lineage two, which had the flaw that you could not change mouse sensitivity. i see no innovation thus no reason to continue buying. wish looks good but fable made some of the same typoe of promises

DnL and D&DO have some fairly innovating concepts for game play that seem intrigueing, but not really revolutionary. TMO has a interesting fighting system.
The problem with makeing huge innovations in game play or game mechanics is that it is take a big chance in a genre that truely depends upon keeping a crowd. Pleaseing the masses is a hard balance to maintain.

Your absolutly right, i love your comparaison between Wish and Fable (btw i hated Fable, worst rpg wannabe ever).
I'm pretty sure the only thing new to Wish is that everyone is on the same server, except from that its probably going to be all what we are used to. The most innovative, or the most different, mmorpg at the moment are Guildwars and Tabula Risa, but true rpg gamers wont get addicted/fall in love with them (well most of the gamers i know are gonna buy guildwar to play when they are bored of there other game, some play DaoC, SoR and WoW's beta).
I never consider a mmorpg that is designed without player interactivity and player influence and player driven content and atmosphere.
I cant imagine a PvE centric, solo RPG style mmorpg that empasizes mob bashing and chasing a number ever transcending the mundane, non-raplayable, linear game-play style of many of todays mmorpgs.
As an edit, aside from WoW getting my subscription because I think Bliz is doing a number of things a little bit better than most, the other games that I think will offer more substance to the genre. . .more than are available today are:
Darkfall
Mourning
Trials of Ascension

I was actually looking forward to Ultima Online Odyssey. Had some neat concepts such as intelligent weapons.
Unfortunately it got cancelled.
I was looking out for Warhammer Online for the roleplaying effect. A new sort of magic system and I love those settings. But for so far I only know that the most innovative mmorpgs are cancelled and most are based on the same principle if you go back to the basics. Why else should they called all MMORPG?
Most of them work with xp like most rpg, the only way that is different between them is the way how to gain xp, mostly just monster bashing and questing. Also most are level based, the higher the level the stonger you are, what is in some sense normal.
Think guildwars will change a lot of this. But I wouldn't call guildwars a realy mmorpg. Why? The maximum of an exploration group is 6, in pvp it is extended to 8v8. A good way to reduce lag, but not realy the massive multiplayer. And if you go explore there is an invisible path you have to follow. But the combat system is attractive and will be a good point for it. Roleplaying in guild wars I don't realy see happening.

I think GuildWars is the next upcoming MMO to change this. But it is not like a traditional MMORPG, it is heavily focused on PvP and accual player skills, not hours spent on grinding. Areanet has several times called it a CORPG(compedative online role playing game)
To sort out some flaws that Bhazir has posted, the maximum group in any PvE instanced zones are 8, not 6. And the maximum number of people in any PvP instance is currently 46(6 teams with 8 members each)
But, these numbers can, and will most likely change beofre the release, as the engine is capable of suppporting more than 150 players in one zone. The only limitation is balancing.
