do you play with two accounts?

RekindleRekindle Member UncommonPosts: 1,206

I've been playing off and on for a while. one of the things that I find is when I start to get into it I lean towards two accounts.

So I'm in a position now where I dont want two pay for two accounts but I'm wondering how many of you out there have your miners and fighters on seperate accounts so you can log on two chars at once?

I know what the game is like with one account and I knwo what its like with two. i'm debating coming back with one but i'm just curious to see how many eve players have / use 2.

i have three, my main, my industrialist, and my new pvp alt who is eventually going to get into a carrier.

i have three accounts so i can train them all up at the same time, when my industrialist finishes training invention skills, ill consider swapping her onto my main account to save the cash.

I did not know you could move a character over to another account, very interesting.

  • XennithXennith Member Posts: 1,244

as long as a char is in an npc corp they can be moved to a different account for a fee. people buy characters with ingame money.

i prefer to train them myself because im poor.

Very good info, thanks.  I hear what your saying, paying for that just seems wrong.

I know any time I have been in an NPC corp, a ton of people yack in chat about that toon being their second account.  I also know any time I have been in a pirate corp, most of the people I have seen in them are playing on their second account.  Once I had a second account, but finally dropped it as it really didn't seem to pan out as a valuable asset.

I guess my point is that a lot of people have more than one account.

As a side note, I find that second accounts are more common in many "older" games.  Just from a practicality standpoint for the achiever types out there.  They feel they need to min-max their time online and end up deciding the best way is to multi-box.  EQ was probably the game that brought this home hardest in it's day with the near requirement for early mid to high level content requiring at least a good duo to have any efficiency at grinding.  DOAC taught pvp players that they could not succeed in RvR without a buff-bot.  WoW's GUI, addons, and macro-susceptability made it so people could make an entire group of their own toons.  Etc.

Sorry, got a little off topic there.

I started EVE with one account, realized a month later that having 2 would be a great benefit (and it has) and about 4 months ago started a 3rd during a trial offer.

Having multiple accounts lets me pursue training in mulitple racial ships, therefore very soon I'll have qualfied PVP pilots in most small ships of all races.

I got tired of people saying, Amarr ships are better in pvp, or Gallentee are better, or XXX ships is better than Caldari anything.  Screw it, I'll just fly them all and then it won't matter

Two here.  Thinking of starting a third but not sure if i'm that good at multitasking....

Seriously though I know several who have like 8+ accounts, it makes my head hurt just thinking about it!

I bought into the Power of Two promotion.  My plan was to ghost train my main on a few long skills and then see what I wanted to do after the 6 months was up.  Less than a month later they killed ghost training...  I lol'd, such is life.  So, I've been still playing my main and just logging in the alt to train skills.  She's now a badass Minnie Frig/Cruiser pilot.  Prolly just gonna sell her for isk's when the 6 months is up.

I've tried the dual boxing thing but didn't get into it that much and I like my main alot.  Don't really have much interest in having two accounts and likely won't do it again.

I have 2... 1 that's mine and my alt account which was originally my wife's account when she tried EVE out. She didn't like it so rather than canceling the account I kept it open to use as an industry/mission/logistics alt.

So now my main account almost never runs missions anymore unless I need to raise my faction or fix slightly damaged sec status due to too killing many red non-war targets in lowsec ;) He's almost pure PVP now. My 'alt' which used to be my wife's character is now my mining/missions/carrier/orca alt.

    3 here.
One Caldari specced Capital ship pilot which is also my main. Mostly used for carebearing and logistics these days (and forum whoring :) ).
    One Minmatar specced PVP pilot.
    And One Caldari/Minmatar covert/recon pilot.

Usually dualbox the PVP and covert pilot.

lol. Interesting perspective.  Id say as long as there is $ associated with both subs CCP would disagree....but thanks for the input.

One of the strangest answers I've ever seen. Multiboxing isn't cheating at all... Hell CCP even encourages it. Thus the *many* "Power of Two" offers they've done over the years.

I wish you could train characters on the same account, but you cant. I had 2 accounts at one time but I would rather just have 1 account as im not in any real hurry. The 1 toon I have does a little of everything and one day will be doing everything as long as the game stays afloat! :)

Played : WOW, LOTRO, COH/COV, EQ2, SWG, and WAR.

I dual box with a miner and mission runner/pvp'er.

It works nicely, I get a lot of shit done and make some ISK in the process.

It's the only sensible one I've seen. Multiboxing only leverages the "$=In-game advantage" issue. When the majority of your playerbase feels the need to have multiple characters to play properly, which is apparently the case here, then it is a sign of a severe flaw in game design. I'm less than shocked they support it, because no company is going to say "no, please, spend less money on us." Considering that the overarching theme of Eve is to amass wealth for the sake of wealth, obsession with wealth and greed is not likely to be uncommon in the playerbase as well, so I guess this outcomne was expected. Every race seems to have a little caldari in it...

I used to run 3, but now that they screwed the cost of ISK to timecard costs by making only the 60d I can't farm enough isk to keep up with the 650-700 a month of isk per account and so now im down to 1, my jump frieghter pilot and that soon will expire and I doubt ill reup.

I played at 3 separate times and each time played with 2 accounts windowed on one screen.

I love this game very much but it was just too much to keep my head around to play casually.

I pay for my main with money, when I had an alt I used to pay for him with a GTC, due to rising costs of GTC's and me being cheapo I now have gone back to playing with only 1 account :)

  • x_rast_xx_rast_x Member Posts: 745

I started with one, but after a couple of months I got an alt via Power of 2.  Keeping them both subbed annually is only 50% over the cost of a single account subbed monthly so it works out pretty well for me.

Unlike most people I don't seperate my main and alt by what they do (e.g. combat and industry).  My two characters are almost always together and what seperates my main from my alt is my main can go out and do things on his own and my alt can only support other people.

thinking of coming back but i dont want to pay for two accounts and I may have ruined my experience because I kno w the differences two accounts make......in Canada eve sub is about $20 and I cant justify $40 a month for a game so I dunno what I'm gonna do.

I do remember the days when I was only one player and they were fun.

I wish it were possible to live a 00 life wihtout having a f#$3@# headset tied to my head too.....that would really make a big difference.....of course I understand that 00 life is for alliances and alliances need what they need so that probably isnt likely.  Maybe wormholes, well see.
