5 REASONS TO BUY THE GAME
1) Graphics and Score is unmatched in any other game
2) Combat is probably higher paced than what you have played in most games before
3) Storyline(PvE) and leveling is probably unmatched
4) PvP Consequence system is a very new and refreshing experience
5) This game holds Epic Massive GvG Endgame in the form of City and Battle Sieges. Players basically create their own endgame through the never-ending war and conflicts between the Guilds on each server.
5 REASONS TO NOT BUY THE GAME
1) Your computer specs are below min requirements
2) You need a seamless world in your MMO
3) You can't handle violent action and will go "Ganker!!", the moment AoC players lay hand on you.
4) You love crafting. Even though Crafting is under continouos improvement, AoC Crafting is not that fun
5) Tier 3 PvE Raid endgame is still not in place. Xibaluku (massive level 80 dungeon) is however patched into the game in February.
Reasons not to buy:
1) If you looking for a game with the same amount of content as WoW has today
2) If your computer can't reach the required specs
3) If you love crafting and want to spend majority of time doing this, then AoC is not your game. Whilst crafting gets better at the moment it's far from good enough to be a main thing to do in my opinion.
4) If you require a seamless world, stay away from AoC
5)
Reasons to buy:
1) Skill based melee combat
2) Graphics & sounds, quite possibly the game with the best sound and ingame music
3) The Lore of Conan is brutal and full of gore, and the game reflect this quite good
4) A game that doesn't try to follow the mainstream of MMO's in everything it does
5) AoC is a game that is constantly improving, it has some of the most fun Boss encounters I have seen. Both PvP and PvE has potential tobecome a lot larger, and I think during 2009 this game will become the diamond it should been at launch.
Playing: Battlefield - Bad company (Xbox360) Arma2, DFO (PC)
On my radar: TSW, MO
MMO's played: SWG (pre cu/cu), WoW, AoC, WAR, DFO, Planetside
MMO's that I have tested: Lotro, L2, Aion, Ryzom
Reasons to buy:
You can pick up the box dirt cheap, even time cards are available at fire sale prices.
You can bench test your comp's Vid Card.
Reasons not to Buy:
Super fast leveling progression to an non-exsistant end-game.
Low replayability, you walk in the same footsteps when you re-roll.
Missing the MMO 'hooks' that keeps players working toward the next 'carrot'.
it plain wasn't Fun
To buy:
1) Very dynamic melee combat that puts a lot of emphasis on skill and where practice pays off and is rewarding
2) Sieging is a blast and really requires planning and teamwork in order to be successful.
3) If you love pvp it is catering very well to that crowd with special armor, murder system and mini games
4) Immersive world and enviroment
5) Amazing community where you have good vs evil guilds, power struggles and play the bad guy or hunt them down.
Not to buy:
1) if you hate instancing.
2) if your very PvE oriented.
3) Running a much older computer.
4) Want a game that is easy to be successful at pvp
5) Want elaborate and decorative armor.
On a side note I was more pve oriented until this game. Dueling and waging battle with my fellow crimmerians has been my main focus for the last couple months and I'm loving it.
How about one reason not to buy.
It is very easy to exploit in the game and the devs do nothing to fix it.
Unless you like to use exploits, then it is a reason to buy the game.
While there are exploits in this and every game I at this time am not concerned with it as I don't feel like it is making a large enough impact on my gaming. Exploits are a difficult thing for any group of devs to deal with though many have been addressed since launch. What specific exploits are you talking about.

If you are not aware of how exploitable this game has been, then you should do some of your own research. And having well known exploits is not normal in any popular and well supported game, contrary to what you may think. FC continually ignored exploit after exploit in AoC, even after months of people complaining about it.

That's a ridiculous statement. Think of all the farming bots in WoW. My friend did that, as well as many others, for many months just to name one on the biggest MMO of them all. The only successful method to date to combat online cheating is with outside applications like punkbusters and it still isn't full proof. That's why so many fps games have them because it is so prevelant. Left 4 dead just had a melee exploit patched recently that has been around since launch as well as others like being able to move dumpsters over sewer holes. Exploiting sucks and no doubt that it happens in AoC. But to say it is not normal really is ignorant, or more likely, an extremely biased statment to push whatever agenda you have against the game. Again, I'm not AoC is without fault or that they couldn't be doing a better job but all online games have cheating and exploits. It's a sad truth and programs like punkbuster wouldn't be so prevelant if this wasn't the case. For me it hasn't been close to a deal breaker and I know of three players that were recently punished for unbinding an item which is to say that they are doing something. It's an extremely difficult problem to combat and one that is ongoing for todays online games.
I have to agree with this.
I loved the ingame music, unfortunately that was all i liked about the game
2nd MMO with DX10 graphics. I think it deserves that award dont you? Unless you feel LOTRo was better. Which is debatable.

It was a design choice, the more data held server side the more 'lag', the more data held client side, less operations per second the engine server side has to perform. The problem is what data you choose to hold where.
Both AoC and WarHammer made big 'NO-NOs' that even rookie MMOs Devs avoid by having the client (player) side hold alot of the data that determines playfield position and combat effects and outcome. This was all known, and reported endlessly by the beta players. FunCom had YouTube taking down 5-6 fraps vids a day in the 2 months leading up to launch, showing how massive the exploits are ... and still FunCom took all that pre-order money and launched the broken game.
Why you should buy AoC
1. If Low-fantasy setting and theme appeals to you.
2. If you like guild-based factionless PvP- need to round up a posse
3. Graphics and sound
4. If you like fast-paced, skill based combat that is unlike other MMOs
5. Novel, fun-oriented approach to a few classic concepts, such as being a healer
Why you shouldn't buy AoC
1. Lack of seamless world bothers you
2. You like to solo but don't like to be ganked- need to round up a posse
3. You don't meet the system requirements
4. You are mostly a PvE player
5. You need gear progression carrot on the stick chasing to keep interest... gear matters little more than for bragging rights and looks
AoC does not have DX10 graphics. Don't believe everything you read on a box, especially if that box says "Funcom" on it.

Talk about a ridiculous statement, this one of yours takes the cake. Blizzard in fact employs exactly the one strategy that you claim (incorrectly) to stop all cheating. While it is not PunkBuster, WoW does in fact run a similar application, albiet it much more efficient and capable than PB. Maybe 2 years ago your cheating friends ran a bot (which I seriously doubt) but goodluck running that today. That being said, FC was extraordinarily slow in making simple fixes that a more talented MMO or FPS developer would have handled expediently.
The fact that you have friends who are cheats tells me volumes about your own moral character.
Reasons to buy this game? Is there a reason?
Reasons NOT to buy this game.
My suggestion, stay away from it. Save your money for something else.
It's a bit of a shame that the game started out so badly. For many gamers you only get one chance at making a first impression and to be quite honest i was a bit sceptical when people told me the game has improved dramatically over the months.
But i'm very glad to have reactivated my account, especially now with the server merge situation. I do wish my old UO crew still played MMO's. Then we'd have a blast on the main PvP server.
Anyway, my five reasons...
**** 5 Reasons to buy: ****
1 Graphics and Sound
2 Very Solo-friendly (1 person dungeons and instances, questlines etc)
3 Dynamic combat, not just sequencing the same abilities every time then tab to other target. Having to pay attention to your target's shielding.
4 New content has been added for both solo and group players, and more new content on the way.
5 Open PvP servers, or Open PvP areas on PvE servers (both types have an RP version as well)
**** 5 Reasons to NOT buy: ****
1 Your PC doesn't meet the recommended specs
2 Instancing (i had to get used to this one)
3 If you love shiny virtual items and clothing, linking them to other people and go "drool" then this is not the game for you.
4 I'm not a crafter, so this one's just from hearsay. I've been told the crafting's not very good and not much fun.
5 Fantasy. If you're really into lots of fantasy creatures and races then this game might disappoint you a bit. All players are human, and "real monsters" (demons, undead, lycanthropes, dragons) are fairly rare.
Spot on review. I must say that one of the things I was most disappointed with was the character creation options. With supposedly such great graphics, I expected alot. Unfortunantly EQ2's 3+ year-old character creation was far superior. In AoC every character pretty much looks the same at more than 5 feet away.
As for the rest of the graphics engine, I am not impressed at all. It takes more to impress me than detailed vegetation and boobs.
This one is spot on. Especially if you've played the game within the last two months

Played since launch
Playing: Battlefield - Bad company (Xbox360) Arma2, DFO (PC)
On my radar: TSW, MO
MMO's played: SWG (pre cu/cu), WoW, AoC, WAR, DFO, Planetside
MMO's that I have tested: Lotro, L2, Aion, Ryzom
Reason's to play.
1.Graphics and score.
2.Great combat system.
3.Get yourself into a guild and see what community and team-work in an mmo should be.
4.Be part of the lore of Conan,I dont roleplay but I swear sometimes I feel part of the world,it really is the immersive at times.
5.Good old fashion FUN,love the pve and pvp now,This game has come on leaps and bounds since release.
Reasons not to play.
1.Your microwave oven cost more than your PC.
2.At release you swore you would never give Funcom your money again....and you never go against word .
If someone had came up to me in 1980 when I was on my Atari 2600 and said we will be playing games with thousands of people at the same time.I guess my response would have been,"but I only have 2 joysticks"
http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/235780/page/8
Reasons to buy:
1.) You find the game cheap and don't mind wasting the cash
2.) You value graphics more than substance
3.) You don't mind having several higher lvl babysitters with you to perform quests due to gangs of gankers
4.) You don't mind doing the exact same quest over and over every time you re-roll
5.) You live in Norway and want to support a local gaming company
Reasons not to play
1.) Your computer is over 1 year old
2.) you like to craft items
3.) you want to wear unique looking armors and weapons
4.) You are looking for a game with a huge world and endgame content
5a.) You don't like gaming companies that lie and blame the players for coding mistakes
5b.) the community is horrid and many of the game's proponants behave like blatent marketers
or just wait for Aion to get some better graphics, better gameplay, less bugs in a more polished and balanced game that is beta now and AoC cant still pull out ages after release.
oh and you dont need a top end computer to be able to have fun even in huge pvp battles.
you'll get a much better mmo experience with Aion.
If you can just get past the multitude of bots.

http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/235780/page/8
Reasons to buy:
1. You can't wait for Aion.
2. You can't wait for Darkfall (or think the wait would last until after you go down under).
3. You can't wait for all the other cool games to be released this year.
4. You have already tried everything in WoW / WAR and are bored with those games.
5. Bewbs.
Reasons not to buy:
1. You apreciate if a game is fun to play.
2. Crafting is your game.
3. Visible texture sharpening is immersion breaking to you.
4. You like to collect nice looking armor/weapons.
5. You want to play a game that is fun. (Yes, I know I listed this twice, but I think it's important enough to list twice).
