We're all Geniuses. Most of us just don't know it.
If they did it like the article aluded to, I wouldn't attribute a lot of skill to it since all you needed to know was a default password which is usually very generic. If the sign is meant to be set up by road crews then I'm sure it is very easy to manipulate. I doubt they have a sign technician out there.
It is still pretty funny though.
