The combat looks very nice yes, but graphics dont kill MMOs. WoW wouldve been dead already if this were the case.

if you watch them both to the end you can make a pretty good idea about the gameplay also.

if they turn out to be polished anywhere close to aion its a win.

They will do great in Asia...

TERA appeals to me as a Diablo-esque MMO clone.

Blade and Soul looks wonderful, but I can't deduce enough to know how I feel about it.

Both games are on my radar for now though.

Sig so that badges don't eat my posts.

Funny thing is i feel like i'm watching RFO with Tera and 9 dragons with blade and soul both were good games at the start but got very boring fast and seeing as there asia made bet they turn into a real evil grind real fast as well

Watching a video doesn't tell you much about game mechanics.

As for the thread title, I think Dan Quayle said it best:  "The future will be better tomorrow."

Nope. Can't stand the J-pop style, sorry.

Seriously, when are all you WoW haters ever going to understand that another MMO with better graphics will never be what will dethrone WoW if that is even possible!  WoW is successful and always will be because its accessible by just about any type of PC, and its chock full of content.

The crap PCs Wal-Mart sells for $400 and less run WoW just as good as the custom built $3000+ PCs.  Its also Blizzard and while many don't wanna believe it they are a very good company and know how to make games that everyone likes and they do a fair job at listening to the community feedback.

Have you noticed that every MMO that has challenged Blizzard over the years are way more advanced in graphics, thus preventing the masses of players with crap PCs to play them.  They stick with WoW...

Whilst Korean MMOs tend to have big grinds the following two companies are working on MMOs that break the mold, do new things and try to appeal to the global market more, sort've like how WoW does.

NCSoft: Aion (plays like WoW, no grind), Blade & Soul (action MMO)

Hangame / NHN: Continent of the Ninth (action MMO), TERA (MMO with no targeting / agro)

Anything else from Korea is looking to be the normal grind stuff though.

I see nothing on the horizon coming from the west in regards to mmo's. I feel we will all be playing these heavy hitters from asia because the west just can't keep up. IMO

Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries...

No agro control is probably a better way of putting it. As you can't target the mob you can't taunt it, so the only way to stop it beating on your healer is to make sure you, the tank, stay between the mob and the healer. Collision detection and positioning > generic taunt button.

Ok... still the tank could shout to get the enemy atraction, in a determined radius. Or have they stated there won't be any taunt?

Personally.. I think they need bigger swords and less clothes on the females! It is the future of mmo's!

Eye-candy with little or no content is not the future. Sure, it's nice that they are adding better and better graphs to games, but i've always liked Content before Graphics.

And a last note, they should really just add a 10metre sword that sticks out his arms and legs and the girls just have a cencorship for their "epic" armor.

    Cheers

Using your stereotyping, World of Warcraft with its cartoonish graphics should only be played by twelve year old kids.

Visuals are only a part of a game.

True, but satire is part of life - and it just passed over you.

How dare you present him with logic! Don't you understand? He fights epic fights, in epic games, with epic toons....eats epic food and takes epic dumps! He has more e..pic..icity...ness in his little finger than you have in your whole unepic body! - ChicagoCub

Damn...Look at the tits on those females in blade and soul, getting into the city must be an implant prerequisite. game looks pretty cool in "preview" mode, if you can actually play like that, it would be saweet :D.

Looking at those videos I wold definetly consider playing those games as single player games.  However, there really was nothing in there that showed how the MMO aspects of the games play out.

  • MikehaMikeha Member EpicPosts: 9,196

These games look really impressive but with no info on them we will have to wait and see. They sure as hell look much better than this stuff comming out in the West. Earthrise is the only western game that has me intrested.

  • JosherJosher Member Posts: 2,818

Tera looks like a Phantasy Star Online style MMO combat wise.  I LOVED PSO way back when, but I won't pay a monthly fee to jplay an online version of Monster Rancher;)  There needs to be a lot more to it.

Blade and Soul, who the heck knows.  Overly cinematic, EDITED videos don't give me a good idea how the game really plays.  The whole duel thing looked like a game of Tekken=)  How will it REALLY work on a modem?

The graphics & animation for both games are nice, but its typical anime we've seen since time of memorial.  Nothing new to see here.

My only fear is the same as everyone else outside Korea...NCSoft.  They do have a reputation=)  Lousy UIs, too many non english speaking players, and grinds that make WOW and EQ look like kindegarden.

WoW has never been the major player in Asia.  Sure when compared to the numbers of westerners playing MMO's their Asia numbers are huge, but hell, how many people were playing Lineage?  Hell I think Maple Story or some other game like that has more people than WoW does lol.
