To me I see the pro's and con's as such.

    AoC

Pro's- Great Graphics, fast paced combat, different look than the average elves, Guild halls and cities, Great 1-20 content.

Con's- Linear Zones (From what I hear), harsh system demands, lack of content for endgame(again just hwat I hear), and no "real" player housing besides guild halls.

    LOTRO

Pro's- Great Roleplaying ability, Player housing and Guild homes, Great Story Arcs, tons of content straight through, and unique classes and abilities, nice graphics that are not too demanding.

Con's- Combat can seem slugish until later levels (from my own experiance), very quest dependant game, and of course no "Evil Races".

    Vanguard

Pro's- Vast Seemless worlds, player housing (limited), three seperate spheres of gameplay, Intricate crafting, large array of classes, races and just overall choices of gameplay.

Con's- Not enough people playing on any server, very system demanding, lack of end game content, and from what I have heard slim roleplaying.

Hello, i'm also up to picking up a new mmo.  I've played vanguard and AoC extensively when they were released and tried the LoTHO mmo but just didn't get drawn in.

I'd lean towards AoC and Vanguard, more heavily towards Vanguard as i have had alot of fun with it.

That being said, i'd like to pick a game that i'll stick with a while, and the lack of anything resembling real updates for vanguard (not to mention no effort on an expansion ) when the game just passed the 2 year mark, really makes me leery.

As for AoC, i could get into it again i think, loved the graphics, but never found a class that fit really nicely.  Plus, even with the bad press on server merges, i think it is a really good sign that Funcom isn't being ignorant.  That they learned from at least some of their mistakes and are making decisions for the betterment of their community/playerbase.

Why five months? Are they having a big update?

I wouldn't mind AoC myself.  Thing about the game that dissuades me is the server downgrade.  They went from something like 43 servers to 16.  I may actually pick the game up at a later date, but right now I don't think I want to invest my money into something that may cancel a few months down the road.  I've also heard AoC has a content problem, there just isn't enough, and secondly, that AoC doesn't have a free world to explore.  Your route is already pre-ordained by the designers of the game.

My brother went ahead and bought me AoC as an early birthday present, so it looks like that is the game I will be playing for right now. For anyone that is intrested in joining up in game send me a message and I will give you my Server and character details. Or for anyone who is currently playing and can reccomend a high population server that would be great too as I wait for the patcher.

so are you already up and running?  I think Tyranny or whatever is one of the best servers atm.

I still can't decide between AoC, EQ2, and LotRO, I have all installed and up-to-date.  I quit EQ2 way back when WoW first came out, but I really enjoyed the game but real life friends switched over and talked me into it as well.  And I played AoC when it first launched but it was just broken after the starting area through 80 so I kind of lost interest.  LotRO I have never played before, just the last day or so getting a couple toons up to level 5 checking it out... so not much to say about that one.

With all my friends still playing WoW and me having no intention on every playing WoW again, I too am looking for something to play... just not sure what yet.

I am going to give AoC a shot just because it is a "New" experiance. If things do not work out there, I will most likely go back to LOTRO.
