I originally bought EQ when it first came out as a friend of mine told me about it.  Having been playing the Baldur's Gate games and finishing it, I needed a new game and was up for a new challenge. At first I really hated it. I did not like the graphics and as everyone else did at first, wandered around aimlessly until I either drowned or died. I eventually returned the game. At this point there were no guides, etc to help you.

Then I finally gave it another try and wammo!  Total addiction.  I guess what did it for me was that some friends of mine needed a cleric character and once I started playing showed me the ropes.  Once I got the hang of it, the game was a lot of fun.  Playing a cleric was boring at times, especially when you had to look at your spellbook for 35 levels. Also having to wait till 39th for complete heal and 49 for rez was frustrating, but once you got there, well worth it.

Eventually I went the usual route: Played way too much;  got to the end game of a top notch guild as an uber cleric.  Then came Shadows of Luclin. I had a lot of fun with Ruins of Kunark/Scar of Velious but SoL just killed the game for me. The new graphics to me were awful. The way the toons swang their weapons was just gay, not to mention the huge time sinks for quests.

I had a lot of fun, but the game also conflicted with my family and other activities outside of gaming.  I or my family could not sustain  playing 4-5 hours a days and the pressure from the guild playing a cleric at the end game.  After 2+ years, I made the hard decision to quit. it wasn't easy. The decision was for my family, because if I was a single guy I would probably still be playing image

I did enjoy EQ a lot and found the game new and exciting. I enjoyed meeting new players and making close friendships through a game, a totally new concept to me. The teamwork needed in the game to overcome boss mobs was a challenge which I enjoyed.  What I did not like was the amount of time needed to accomplish and see the best parts of the game and all the bickering/greed between players and guilds.

EQ1 was the first 3D online game and opened the door for a new type of gaming, MMORPG.  All the others now that come out in the fantasy genre will always be compared to it no matter what.  It is the gold standard in the industry.

I voted yes, but was a 60/40 yes image

I hope EQ2 is more accommodating for the casual gamer.

I like EverQuest, but I found it had expansionitis. I quit pretty much after Luclin, but I still bought PoP and explored it a bit. That's the last time I played though. EQ1 will always be a classic game in my mind that I really enjoyed. The Kunark years were my favorite and quite possibly EQ's peak, followed by Velious.

The game has great depth and is definately the best MMORPG out there. I enjoyed my 3 years of it and would go back if there wasnt some new mmos comin out

I had a hard time with this one.. Because on one hand I like Everquest on the other hand I don't.. I think I would actually stay with Everquest if they took a lot of the flagging restrictions away.  It's not impossible to find groups but it is impossible to get on Everquest for say an hour.. If your wanting to actually see a difference in your Experience or if you want to get anything accomplished. The new Level 70 thing got a bit frustrating to since that update I actually haven't played much at all the grind isn't something I wish to go back to.

I have been playing EQ since '99 and still play.

I am no power gamer although I have been in large raid guilds.

I do like the way it has been going with the new zones, insta zones and contect, however they are catering to much to the power gamers that complain there is not enough contect to keep them happy. However the newest expantion has added alot for everyone.

I think now instead of adding new zones they might want to go back to some of the old zones and give them a revamp, a war of some sort rather then adding new zones they should try to upgrade the zones that no one is using anymore.

I have been playing games all my life , was a big Fighting game fan ( mk2,mk3,marvel vrs capcom, street fighter etc killer instinct) but as i got older these games lacked content and fun. I basically stopped playing games besides madden03-04 and Goldeneye on nintendo 64.....<-----still playing the multiplayer::::06::

Anyway......... from the first day i played Eq i was hooked I loved the game, nothing like killing monstors with your friends, or just going solo and doing quest on your own. the game is its own world....its worth the monthly fee i still have my acount activated just computer is messed up so im saving for a new one.
but If you want to know Eq is the best game ever made period. 10/10

EQ ahhhh, the memories i can share, lol, can't we all.  Played for 4 and a half years, gone through 4 mains and i just cancelled my account a week or so ago.  The game has just gone down hill imo, it started to go downhill along time ago since PoP expasion imo.  I just held on hoping the game would change.  It's to of an u gotta dedicated your life to get anywhere kinda game and to actually get in a grp for exp, u gotta b in a good guild or have connections.  And u had to have some connections to get in a good guild, like me i was screwed, i sat there for hrs lfg and nothing.  The game is way to uber, but soe kinda payed for that by players killing the sleeper, without no sleeper there would b no eq2.  I laughed when i heard about the 1st killing of the sleeper, i saw it comming, but who didn't?  Aperrently soe didn't, they made the players to strong for there own good.  So now whats left for EQ players, omens of war?  How long is that gonna take till they kill everything there?  Not to long if it isn't done already, so the fun factor is gone imo, it's like "OOOO a new mob lets kill it, no worries, we r ultra uber".  And i know there r others who feel the way i do about the 1st eq, and this is y the stats on this website r pointing that more ppl r going to WoW rather than EQ2.  But i'm not gonna dismiss eq2 that easily, if they get set on the right track like they were when eq1 came out, this could b a really good game, but i already read some stuff in eq2 i don't like.

This game is by far the best mmorpg ever. It will go down in history! For a game that is 6 years old and still has alot of subscribers is awesome. Most all new games steal their ideas from EQ. I know EQ wasnt the first mmorpg, but it definately was the best.

I played EQ for a little over/under a year... I loved it, tried to get a couple of my friends on it. The only reason I stopped playing was a) lack of access to a credit card (moved out of my friend's basement) and b) my gf.... Nah, on second thought, if I had the cash/credit, I'd still be playing. Oh, and then there's school. Right. The good thing about EQ is that you can leave your char afk in the bazaar, in trader mode, selling stuff that you looted, old equipment, etc... while you're off earning that harvard degree or whatever.

My recommendation is go for it. EQ r0xx0rz, and EQ2 is (hopefully /crossfingers) gonna r0xx0rz m0r3.

I have to admit that I got hooked on this game.. I started playing lil over 4 month's ago and took me bout a month to reach lvl 65. After OoW was released I got lvl 70 the week after. Joined a high end guild with some helps with flagging. It all went so bloody fast. For powergamers this must be the best game still. I've played alot of mmorpg's and this by far beats any of the others since you need flags and a good guild to see the best stuff. And still there's alot of things for casual players ( I know a few). Overall imo best mmorpg.

If you lack challenge in the mmorpg you play... play EQimage
