Worlds like GW's or D&D Online

They need a new type of designator as they are truly NOT an MMORPG or even really an MMO experience..

Why do I say this well you many have millions of people online in the game but atmost you can only have 16 people playing againist each other or if you do I single player mission you will never see another soul..

These worlds are in no way even like the "Realm Online" not to mention nothing like EQ SWG DAoC or AC.. While at times you may be alone in these types of games or in a instance the majority of time your not..While GW and D&D Online are all instance play, they are like being in DS, atleast in my opinion::::27::::::27::::::06::

Let's dissect the title MMORPG, shall we?

MM = Massively Multiplayer.  I.E. a ton of people connecting to a game server. Check on both.  there is nothing that says there has to be explicit community interaction.

    O = Online.  Check.

RPG = Role Playing Game.  Do you play a role?  Healer? Smasher of Faces?  Yup.

Nowhere in MMORPG does it say that everyone should be able to follow everyone else anywhere they want to go.  You are still able to make friends.  You are still able to find those friends quite easily (in the case of GuildWars, within seconds.)  So they don't follow the same style as EQ and DAOC.  Isn't that what everyone was complaining about anyway?

So SOCOM is a MMORPG? Halo?

It is more of an ORPG than a MMORPG.

It's online, but it certainly isn't "massively multiplyer".

I do think it is a great game. I can't wait to see how they tie in guilds with it, since it is after all called *Guild* Wars. It would be neat to have some Guild vs. Guild action, though I wonder how many people will be fighting at once. The PvP in this game is better than in any other RPG out at the moment IMO.

I totally agree with GumbyX, I mean if you really are so mad at GW for not being a "mmorpg", then go choose the some hundred or so other mmorpgs out there.  Maybe some people like the GW style, where monsters are meant for YOUR group and group only.

Just think a little before you flame a game randomly.

I haven't been following D&D Online that closely but as far as I know, it's not ALL instance based. Maybe someone who is a bigger follower could answer better. But I was under the impression that only certain quests were going to be instance based, outside of the quests and dungeons the worlds would be persistant. Though the worlds are planned to be small population-wise, they are still persistant.

Holy crap, is the percentage of illiterate people increasing? I was going to be a little less harsh, but then i realised that this person is from the US, so one would tihnk they should have the intelligence to form a coherent sentence, but honestly what the hell, i cant even read that! "They need a new type of designator"??? What the hell, i can only hope they mean design. I had to read that post about three times before i realised what they were trying to say.

Anyway, Guildwars is still basically a MMORPG since there are still public areas with a large amount of people, just the areas in which missions and PVP take place are instanced. No, its not technially a true MMORPG but it shares many qualities of one.

I'm pretty sure he meant they need a new designation for Guild Wars, rather than classifying it as an MMORPG.

Geez, they made something new, it's popular, don't whine if it doesn't fit your style. Every game aren't designed for you, my little egomaniac image.

Halo and SOCCOM didn't connect thousand hundreds players to the same server... it's like saying mIRC would be a MMO if it was a game image. Let me show you the right way : Do you chose against who you play against in Arena, Guild battles or Tournaments? No you don't! Are there different host? Nope!

If you wanna zerg 50 vs 1 mob, stay to your current MMO market, I prefer a challenging game over any items wh0ring game.
