hey all,
this is the usual story..i played when first came out..had to many issue for to be fun..but loved the game..just could not deal with the issues but have also upgraded comp since then big time... just have a few questions...
1. i played a DK mostly when it came out...loved the class...but it is a tank class..and have always liked being able to do at least decent dps. can they hold their own in dps? or are the simply tanks.
2. what is community like..is it going to be a baren wasteland during my time in game.
3. love dual wielding class's..but hate being squishy.. is there a class that dual wields swords or axes that wont die quickly.
4. how sought after are DK's in groups etc...
just basic question really...
also any other information that might help me come back to play...feel free to add that as well..

1. i'd say from personal experiance Death knights did the most dps out of all the tanks. Its more of a build up of dps rather than a quick burst though
2. Community is fine, people are always LFG for dungeon crawls (best part of the whole game) and if you join a decent guild you will have plenty of people to chat to. General chat is pretty crap so i would avoid that if you can but aside from that people are normally quite friendly.
3. sounds like the ranger is for you. Medium armour, decent health and dual wields. The other other class i know of is the assassin and i think maybe the warrior.
4. honestly, it doesnt work like that. If you have LFG on or if you start up a group you will end up with a mixture of classes. I have been in groups where half the group is one class and we still managed to clear out the dungeons. Group makeup matters little in this game as long as you have 1 healer and 1 tank you are fine. Being a Death knight you can also (sort of) heal yourself. That makes the healers job a lot easier and as a tank i have no problems with them (for memory they can AOE a lot better than the other tanks).
basically once you do the tutorial missions (quite fun) and reach the mainland i would suggest waiting until level 14 before you start looking for groups. post 20 you should have LFG on all the time and should get an invite fairly quickly. I lived in a horrible timezone (Australia) and i still managed to get into groups within an hour of logging on.
MMO wish list:
-Changeable worlds
-Solid non level based game
-Sharks with lasers attached to their heads
1. DK's are ok at DPS, but their survivability makes up for the difference. Through a series of lifetaps they can stay up really well, and are one of the better soloers out there. I wouldn't say they have *great* dps though.
2. The community is smaller than many other games, so don't expect huge numbers of people, however, the ones that are around are generally pretty helpful. The channels are busy with chatting, and it's honestly not that hard to find a group. Only downfall is most of the lower end dungeons never get used because everyone goes for the exact same route. HL, CIS, and so on for armor. Makes the other dungeons kind of pointless overall.
3. Warrior. Warrior has the best DPS out of all of the tanks (by quite a bit actually), and is all about dual-wielding. You receive blocking bonuses while dual wielding. Unlike the DK though, they aren't AS good at soloing. They have an ability to temporarily increase their running speed which can be used for escapes, and an insanely minor heal which isn't that useful. When they use their force crit abilities however, they can lay out some heavy damage. They use DPS to maintain aggro.
Ranger is an excellent second option. You won't be wearing heavy armor obviously, but you get a pet, heals, can specialize in ranged or melee attacks (just because you are specialized doesn't mean you can't do the other incredibly well). Excellent survivability, and if you want to solo, you can kite several mobs at the same time. You don't have to kite either, their melee skills are just as exceptional.
4. DK's are great picks for tanks. I never had a problem finding a group on my DK, Warrior, or Paladin while I was still playing.
The most important thing is pick a class you could see yourself enjoying in the long run. A lot of people choose whichever class they think other people would desire, or whichever is the easiest to play (ub3r 1337). Sure you might have an easier time finding a group in the long run, but once you're in the group, are you enjoying the game as much as you would be if you were playing the class you wanted? I've tried out just about every single class, and have never had a problem finding a group on any of them. Once you get to end-game, that's when it gets sticky, but it all depends on the guild you align yourself to. No one is going to take 8 shamans on a raid, but there are some guilds that will do swap outs and such.
Try a few of the classes out. Doesn't take that long to get to level 10/15. You seem to be melee oriented, so here are my recommendations.
Warrior -- Plate Tank, Dual-Wielding, Good DPS, Excellent group survivability, OK solo.
Dread Knight -- Plate Tank, Two-Hander, OK DPS, Excellent group survivability, Good solo.
Ranger -- Medium Support, Dual-Wielding, Great DPS, Great solo.
Disciple -- Medium Healer, Dual-Wielding or Two-hander, Good DPS (yes, they are a healer too), *Phenomenal* solo (god-like on some encounters)
Vanguard did one thing VERY right. Every class is fun and unique. Just gotta get their subscriber numbers up. Of course, when people don't join Vanguard because it's population, they unfortunately begin a continuous cycle.
great feed back...really appreciate it..
i think i will do the leveling to 15 or so on the warrior, dk, dis, and ranger...
and see which i like best...
thanks a bunch
Somebody already hit the nail on the head... classes in Vanguard are very different from one another and each brings a lot of different abilities to the table. Level up a few as you said, and then play what's most fun, or play them all
