    Bought:

    2.2 GHZ AMD 64 Proc

1 gig of ddr400 ram (like pci 3200 or something)

    Windows XP

    80 gig Raptor HD 10k-rpm

    some bitchin mobo

some really cool looking case, with lights and fans and stuff

    425 watt power supply

I also bought a radeon 7000 but that was to put in my old computer...I put my 9800 pro in my new computer. Then gave my old computer to my girlfriend. She was happy. That should buy my alot of time to play EQ2 without her bitchin...I'll just say,"Honey...because of this game you now have a computer!" image

oh...all said and done..with my new computer..and the parts for the old one..I spent almost exacly $1000 american.

I upgraded my computer once I played EQ2 beta and decided I was getting it instead of WoW... my upgrades are:

    1.  NVidia GeForce 6800 GT 256 MB - $380 incl. shipping

    2. Add'l 512 MB to go to total 1 GB of memory - $160 incl. shipping

    3. 350 Watt Power Supply to handle vid. card - $70

It's for EQ2, but now I have a computer which should last for quite a while.  EQ2 looks awesome now, not to mention Im playing Rome Total War and that looks awesome now too.

Only thing I bought in expectation of the EQ2 release was:

    PNY Geforce 6800 GT = $350.01

I have been using a G3 ti500 and although it meets the minimum specs I felt it was deffinitely time to upgrade. (If anyone wants a Asus G3 card let me know image)

I forget the exact cost, most parts came from Newegg tho, so fairly cheap:

    AMD 64 3400+
2GB Kingston HyperX Low Latency PC3200 Ram
    eVGA 6800 Ultra
    2x 180GB HDDs in Raid-0 Setup
    ASUS K8VN Deluxe Mobo
    22" Viewsonic Perfectflat Monitor
    500w Ultra PSU
    CoolerMaster Praetorian Case

Ummm and all that other stuff you put in there: DVDrom, DVD-RW, Floppy, etc.

I didn't have to spend anything to fix up my computer for EQ2 because I had just fixed it up for Doom3.

    Just my 2cp.

i hear everyone talking about all the different places that they bought there equipment online. They are some ok places, but from my experience normally not the cheapest. i find that 99.5% of the time www.pricewatch.com has the absolute lowest prices on the net. I mean I try to froogle/google I try everything and the prices on Pricewatch are either the same or most of the time better.

I am not affiliated with Pricewatch or anything like that. i just wanted to let you know of a good place to get your stuff cheap. Pretty much everything I get is either from e-bay or pricewatch.

The only thing I did was upgrade my cpu (to the best my mobo can run 333fsb) had a AMD XP 1700+ (1.4 ghz) ....now I have the AMD "Barton" XP 3000+ (2.1 ghz) and luv it! Was a nice boost image

Purchased from www.newegg.com (as is 99% of ALL my computer needs) for $160

But I had a gift certificate for $30 (TY to my wife image) So my out of pocket cost was $130

My Comp stat's now are the following:

    AMD XP 3000+Barton
    Shuttle AK37GT
    1Gig PC2700 Kingston
Stock AMD H/S and Fan (retail)
ATI 9800 NP 128mb Omega Drivers 4.10 Beta
80GB Western Digital SE 8MB cache
    Lite On DVD-CDR Combo Burner
    Lite On 48x24x48
    400w RaidMax PS
    Windows XP Pro
    3dmark: '01 - 14,536/'03 - 4,957/'05 - 2,036

Thanks man...but PriceWatch will just show you the "lowest" price available from a whole host of companies. The lowest price doesn't guarantee high standards and quality customer service...issues that are very important when dealing with an online vendor IMO

I have used NewEgg for about 4 years now...built 8 computers and have "never" had any issue with merchandise or packaging or shipping problems. I prefer to stay with a tried and true business I trust...and who happen to have very competitive prices on all their products.

Most likely the item you saw was an OEM chip and not the retail version that ships with the Heatsink and fan, which I currently use and my temp w/load is 42 degrees (pretty good for a Barton w/stock h/s & Fan) IMO

But again...TY for your time and effort. Point well taken...but I am VERY happy with www.newegg.com for the majority of my computer needs image

ps - I checked your link and it is a listing for the OEM chip. The price reflects their "sale" price(normal price is the same as NewEgg's OEM price)...and your link is currently out of stock image

Good points. The stuff that is cheaper on pricewatch is normally cause it is oem. As far as customer service goes you are right there too. You are not ordering through pricewatch just looking up prices from different companies, and ordering from them (the other companies). I haven't personally been screwed in an online order yet so I guess that is why I am so trusting; but I have read horror stories. It is a good price if you are a cheapo like me though and just want to save every nickle ya can.

To everyone else sorry for getting off topic. Back to the funny MC commercial like spoofs image

    I have a 3 yo P4 1.5Ghz using 512MB Rimms with a soundblaster live! and a Geforce 5200. HDD 40Gb ( 20Gb Wind Xp Prof 20GB Linux KDE 8.1 )

I reformated my Windows partition recently getting rdy for eq2, installed new drivers, directx 9.c, etc.. Norton Antivirus and Firewall.. and pretty much nothing else.

PC When I started following EQ2 (1 1/2 years ago)

    P4 3.0ghz 512fsb, 9800 pro 128mb, 1024 mb ram.

PC Now (I keep my comp uptodate, so I would have had this comp regardless of EQ2, it just worked in the right way)

P4 3.4ghz 800fsb HT Extreme Edition, eVGA 6800 Ultra, Kingston HyperX 1024mb PC3200 Ram, Audigy 2 Platinum, Zalman Reserator 1 Watercooling System.

    = $2300

Spent 65$ on 512mb ram.  That's about it, working on cpu+mobo, prob 3.2ghz for $200 or so

I build PCs :P  I've seen cheaper pricing than what most said here and was suprised.  I plan to build two PCs for users on EQ2, so far so good.  Oh, my PM box is open :P
