vista?

I would like to try this game, however, I would be running the game with vista. The download specifically says that vista is not supported, should I dl and try anyway? or does it simply not work on vista?

Thanks for any replies :)

Sorry no the game does not work with Vista yet. Some can get lucky but it is very hit or miss if it will work after a reboot.

This thread on the community forums discusses Vista, now with SP1! and extra goodness.   As indicated above, it can be done, but seems to be hit and miss. It is being worked on of course, but unfortunately no date yet.

I just read that 10-20% of major business programs don't run on Vista; part of the reason businesses are beginning to announce that they're waiting for Windows 7(?).

Windows 7 will be built on Vista's foundations

The reason why the game does not work on Vista is because vista does not allow the game to use the exploits in the dot net framework that Bowman and company put into the game during their dot net 1.1 love affair. Vitrium does not seem to have the expertise to recode these areas of the game to make it work with vista.

These security changes will continue with windows 7 and programmers of the day are just going to have to put the lazy days of coding behind them.

Vista isn't that bad, its no windows xp SP2 yet but it will improve and its the way of windows future. So either learn to deal with it or hope the open source community can get it together enough to make linux a viable alternative.

Stay far far away from "game", whatever the hell they call it now. Horizona/Istaria. (and whoever owns it now)

Always a pleasure to read a well-reasoned, thoughtful post.

Incidentally, there is an unconfirmed rumor that Windows 7 will revert to the XP kernel.  The basis is that there are simply too many enterprise programs that will not run under Vista.

Vista isnt so far off now, and will be far better than XP.  Never mind the DX10 its just more user friendly, smoother feeling, and well...cool.  Hate to use the Mac vs. PC stuff but erm...xp feels more like the nerd and Vista the everyday joe cool.  On a more technical note, i havent had a single issue with vista,  i enjoy DX10, and the interface is just much more enjoyable. Besides it microsoft...other companies will fall in line, and they will higher newer coders etc that know the latest and adapt.

Hard to keep up, Istaria has been through many owners. Still some of the same people working on it though, just less of them afaik.

And your opinion is based on what? Hearsay?

No it is true. A couple, I am not sure of exact numbers, of the orginal Devs are now working on the game, most working part time. But those few Devs working part time are doing more then EII/PMI/Oh what ever dreamed of ever doing.

When they get this to work on Vista 64, I'll be back.

I remember Horizons (Istaria) having hauntingly beautiful music and feeling very much like ol' EQ in a sense.

Only that they are still working on it.  Previous owners promised way more than they could deliver; the present owners don't promise beyond letting us know that they're working the problem.  So their reputation for honesty is high, albeit a bit frustrating.

FWIW, I understand that it presently  runs under XP64, so Vista 64 should not pose any additional problems.

And some, with varying degrees of fiddling, have gotten it to run under Vista.
