Which MMO currently out right now do you believe has the most potential to be a very good game if some things are changed or fixed? you may not be crazy about the current status of the game but you see a lot of potential in it.

Warhammer and Vanguard both have an ocean of potential. Warhammer has potential that could actually matter; I don't think Vanguard has a hope anymore seeing as SOE just won't throw them a bone.
warhammer and aoc. both mythic and funcom dropped the ball at launch but they have both been steadily improving their games.
Good question. Games like Wow, Guildwars and EQ2 have kinda reached it's potential by now but some of the newer can still become great...
AoC have a lot of potential but it will need a expansion or 2 to get enough content.
I am not so sure about WAR, the world there have great potential but the current system drag it down, if Mythi revamped the system it could still be a great game but I don't see them doing that.
Vanguard do have great potential too but the launch kinda killed it off, now they don't have the resources to turn the game around. Maybe if SOE revamped the game some and re-released it but I kinda doubt that they will.
Yeah, I think my bet is AoC, it's problem right now is that it needs 3-5 times as much content and that is at least possible to fix. WAR would need a lot of work to become a game I like to play, even though I am a great fan of the world.
But it is hard to turn a bad launch, Eve have succeded with it so it is possible. But I still think the next million sub game will be a future release like Guildwars 2, World of darkness online, whatever Blizz or Bethesda are cooking up, TOR or even possibly Mortal online.
i think WAR has the best potential of any current mmo. with a few tweaks in addition to the new classes it could be a lot more successful.
AoC on the other hand will always be an epic failure in my opinion i think the combat system is boring and the scenery looks bland and boring despite high spec graphics.
I agree. It is pretty rare to see an MMO turn things around after a bad or mediocre launch. And, even when they do turn things around, the population almost never climbs back to what it was.
AoC
I think there does come a point where you have to say Vanguard is past its potential......SOE jsut doesnt seem to want to put the money and effort into improving it much and theyre content with where it is appreantly......Warhammer though does have alot of potential and you could maybe say that AoC still has some potential if Funcom can get their act together.
The word potential when speaking of MMORPGs is a dangerous one. By potential in its purest form I would say that Age of Conan, Vanguard, or even Darkfall ( soon ) have the most potential of any other games on the current market. Unfortunately, these games with huge "potential" never even get close to where it could take them until their player base is dwindling. I don't agree with those saying Warhammer despite it being my current MMO of choice. There isn't too much that can be done to help the RvR progression and this is an RvR game. Many people are currently sitting on Invader gear and the like, leaving them only two higher sets they can acquire. The next two sets are the highest in the game for RvR and they come from doing PQs and killing the King of the cities. It isn't as if they are going to add more, higher level, cities into the game down the road. The ones they add back in will just be additions to the current city each side can raid, but still give out the same loot sets. So really, the only place they can improve gear progression for the game is in PVE and once they add in two more higher level sets it will make the game have equal gear in RvR as PVE which defeats the purpose of the game. Like I said, I love WAR, and it will be my mmo of choice for the next handful of years but I am not blind enough to see its errors. They can add new races to the game, new maps, and new dungeons while they work on RvR balance, but that is about it.
I very much agree with you Varking. I think Warhammer Online was a step back from Dark Age of Camelot for Mythic. Not in terms of how many subscribers they'll get, but certainly in the quality and complexity of gameplay.
Darkfall has great potential, but I think it will suffer from the same symptoms as Shadowbane did. Not enough money and too long development cycle. I still think EVE online has a huge potential, and CCP seem determined to continously improve their game, and add to it. I fear though, that some large company might come in and make a better version of it before they manage to fulfill its potential themselves.
Vanguard plain and simple. I dont have loads of info to give you, but after playing it a while, i just know that the game can be one of the best easily.

Drogtor, I love vanguard to death, but vanguard had the most potential of any game i played. Key word: had.
2 Years with vanguard and still no hint at an expansion, i'm still raiding APW, and am working on a second crafter character since i've grown bored with adventure alts. SoE just never stepped up to the plate. They bought the game, and i hoped that with some money thrown at it, the game would blossum into its potential, but alas we are stuck with mediocrity.
So, with that i've recently moved onto greener pastures, AoC. Which is my current pick for most potential. Funcom really screwed the pooch with AoC release, their strongarm antics with their fourms and with ignoring the communities suggestions for AoC. That being said, they have made huge gains in fixing bugs, they have added content ( 2 New dungeons are sitting on testlive as we speak), they have started listening to the community on what area's of the game need the most love and finally they have announced an expansion is in the works (speculated late 2009).
So basically AoC hit rock bottom 3 months after release, but it picked itself up, and has slowly been climbing back up the ladder to success.
The two I'm playing
WAR: I could write a huge post about all the fundamental problems this game has, but they got a lot of things right too. They obviously have a ways to go to get this game firing on all cylinders (released too early, IMO), but they're slowly moving in the right direction. Realm vs. Realm pvp is a great gaming concept, so I sure hope they succeed. I think it's fair to say that WAR has an uncertain future.
LOTRO: Great IP, and Turbine keeps improving the game at a relentless pace. One look at a map of Middle Earth hints at the amazing things coming. I'm very confident about the future of this LOTRO.
Aion, its already hit 1 million subscribers in a single country (Korea) since it's release only a few months ago, which also coincided with WotLK's release, and the majority of WoW players are Asian. Also over 95% of its 250 000 beta testers upgraded to a full subscription within 1 week of Open Beta ending. NCsoft is working frantically to update and fix any problems in their game, which on release was already more polished than most games are after they've been out for months or even years. Its just releasing in China, where I'm sure it will get more success than it did in Korea, then eventually will release over here...its only problem here is going to be stereotypes, assumptions and lack of hype/attention. But seeing as how 7 of the 11 million WoW players are Asian, and Aion is already a hit over there, that should say something.
EVE Online. When devs add planets colonisation with ground content, walking in space stations and redo some mechanics (like gate camping and system claiming), there wont be any reason to play other games.
i think, atlantica online and aeon are the mmos that have great potential.
EVE Online, this game is already the most complex mmo on the market.
With so many ways to play the game and so many more features being added in the future no game on the market today comes close the the potential of Eve.
While today's MMO market is ruled by a ten ton gorilla, Eve proves that a game that's different, that isn't afraid to offer a deep and rich gameplay experience can be a success.
PLaying: EvE, Ryzom
Waiting For: Earthrise, Perpetuum
Personally I'm with Calind0r on this one. Its definitely Aion. I think it will pass WAR pretty fast in subs when it comes out in the west and has the potential to reach the million mark.
Other than Aion, I think WAR has a lot of potential. They've remained relatively steady with their subscriber base and the only way is up for them.
AoC, sorry nope not gonna happen. It will certainly improve no doubt. But I just see everything being done there as too little too late. At best I think they could go up to the 200k subs region with a successfully marketed expansion if it were to come out some time this year. However I daresay I doubt the expansion will come out this year. So the future of this game is pretty much hanging in the balance.
As for LOTRO, well I dont think it will change much. Same goes for EvE.
I'd say AoC, if they could find a way to convert the world to a seemless one I think it would be wickedly awesome but that's not really realistic, it still has other potential though, like if they added more voice-overs... DX10, more end-game content, and even a full loot PvP server to steal some of Darkfalls fanbois lol.
I no longer choose or play an MMO based upon potential any more.
If they want my custom, they better release a complete and compelling game.

None. Games like AOC,WAR and Lotro will continue to be average at best. I don't see any of these games getting a huge population spike anytime soon. I'm more interested in upcoming games like Champions Online where there is no tank n spank concept and where character customization will be pretty awesome.
aion, war and atlantica
I have just recently begun playing Eve so I have no idea what potential is in store for it, however I do have two level 80's in Conan and the day I quit I always knew I would eventually be back for some more action.
AoC has a ton of potential and I truly did enjoy my experience in the world of Hyboria unlike some other game *cough* War which I couldn't see a reason to play. You know, lookng back AoC ran better then WAR did and I played both at release... thats quite hilarious if you ask me.
I'd say Warhammer as well, I just think mythic can fix what was rushed (realm abilities, Mastery trees .... open RVR all which feel rushed and just added at the last minute.)
A lesser known game, Face of Mankind, has the most potential IMO. The game world has a government completely run by players, including an elected president, colonial senate, etc. The gives you more freedom than other games, you could start a business, help protect the world, sell drugs, get paid to kill people, etc. I think people should go check it out (close dbeta is starting soon, but there was a previous open beta which was very fun).
Nothing, I don't think any of the latest mmo's really bring much new to the table.
