Man, that Bloom really hurts to watch. Thats the first option i disabled right away.
But anyway, very nice shots.
Eh you can lower the intesity, right?
Nope no slider. In DX9 it only has a check box so it is either on or off. In DX10 you cannot check the box to turn bloom on but whatever effect they use effect they use instead is almost painful to the eyes.
Anyway nice screenies OP, I doubt anyone will ever call the game ugly.
I'm not crazy about the decontrasting they do to distant scenery. Makes what should be really impressive panoramic views looks dull and washed out to me. As an artist, I understand what they're going for, but I think they need to work on it.
When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.

AOC sure looks good. To bad they use small instance and making the game feel really small
What do you mean?
He means that most of the places you see in the distance are unreachable because of walls / fences / mountains etc.
And in other MMO's you don't have dinstance views with plenty of places you cannot reach?
Seriously, I wonder how many people actually played the game beyond Tortage.
There are plenty of zones that are pretty big and far from small.
Hence, I still remember plenty of topics about people complaining about how long it took to reach the other side of sertain zones and that they wanted faster ways of travel.

Yet there are still countless other games with hardly any walls at all. Vanguard, although the game isn't great, has great graphics and wide-open vistas. And from what I remember, the majority of zones were linear, because again, from what I remember, everyone eventually was funneled into the Cimmerian zones, which are linear mountain passes.
GREAT screens. No doubt AoC is visually the most beautiful MMORPG I've seen currently out. I loved a lot about the game - but about those walls and such...
While some areas of AoC do a fantastic job of being immersive, making you believe in the world around you... others like the constraining 'hallway' at Conarch Valley or soemthing [I forget exactly what the name was] did kind of break my heart. I really wish the game had a much moore OPEN WORLD feel such as VANGUARD. All and all, I still say this is one of the finest MMORPG's out there and a lot of people complaining about it are just totally spoiled or expected way too much... and you can pretty much blame hype for that.
Why do I write, create, fantasize, dream and daydream about other worlds? Because I hate what humanity does with this one.

Thats not true...Cimmerian zones -Fields of the dead, Atzels approach,Ymirs pass are huge, and immerse zones, where u can reach any spot, even climb up the mountains..

I donno mate, just seems to be the cool kid thing to do. As I said, I think it's one of the better MMORPG out right now and there's lots of room for improvement/expansion.

....I play Lotro in dx10 but it doesn't get close to Aoc. And why you posted a picture of yourself??? BTW why posting lotro screens in the tread at all?
Agree, Conal's Valley, Khopesh Province and other places are plenty big enough and i've played every mmorpg around. Citing instances as a reason not to play is brainless. One of the greatest games ever EQ was hundreds of smaller instanced zones all joined together. These muppets have no soul and no imagination.
I moved from LOTRO as well to AoC and i don't miss running for 300 fucking miles to a tavern to deliver a beer to a Hobbit....
As for being funnelled into the Cimmerian zones, that's rubbish, every character i've had has quested in a different zone after Tortage, from 20 - 30+. The trouble is some people have no idea how to play then game imaginatively and then moan cos they thinks it's crap, well here's a heads up.... you're the one who is crap Astroboy. Go play NDS instead.
Man, that Bloom really hurts to watch. Thats the first option i disabled right away.

I agree... I've never liked bloom on ANY game. Applying a visual effect that makes me squint is kinda like having a chair gadget that stabs you whenever your character gets hit. Some immersion techniques don't really make a game more enjoyable...
All that said, they are good shots. If only gameplay was like Assassins Creed and you could hop all over the city...
I just bought the game for 6 bucks shipped, yesterday. Even if I uninstall after a few hours, I'll have gotten my moneys' worth.
but i just wanted yall to see what a real game looks like :P
LoTRO should win some sort of award for best art direction in an MMO, like, ever. But AoC is one of very few that isn't far behind. It's not all about the tech, the tech hardly matters at all compared to the skill of the artists involved, and it's really top-notch in both games.
I think LoTRO makes better use of effects, like shadows, lighting, reflective surfaces, post-processing, etc. That sort of stuff can be touched up and added later, though. Maybe one day AoC will pull ahead.

I agree both games are gorgeous.LoTRO wins hands down the landscapes but when it come to the cities they are close but I say AoC would be the winner there. The water in both games in DX10 is great but in DX9 I would have to give that to AoC also.

Really? I thought the water in LOTRO was better. Some of the transperancy and animation in AOC is the best I've seen, but it lacks the beauty of the reflective waters of LOTRO. Maybe DX10 will help with that?

There is no arguing this was a beautiful game. From jump it was the best looking MMO.
Looks only get you so far though. It's like dating a smoking hot chick that is a complete moron. You can only take it so long.
