If by skill based games you mean that it has alot of proffesions and you don't have to rely on combat then, Runescape, It has alot of non combat proffesions all of which can be maxed. Proffesions like smithing, mining, herblore, crafting , woodcutting, rune crafting, fire making, construction (building your own house basicly) and a few more. It also has good few non combat multiplayer activities.

Yeah basically your choices (this is games that are actually released so no Mortal, earthrise, etc..)

    Eve Online

    Ultima Online

    Runescape

    Asheron's Call

That's about it, and admitedly UO and AC are more or less dead, so really Eve or Runescape.

Also don't forget Tale in the desert 3, that game is purely skill based no combat in it at all (as far as I know)

what he said, plus there is also recently revived Saga of Ryzom.

EDIT: Wurm Online? never tried that but some say it's one of the best games - as fas as the mechanics goes. Barely anyone can stomach the graphics tho (me included)

There is also Tibia...has character levels but everything you swing or cast is based on skill and you gotta raise that to survive.  That is if you're not a graphics nut and can't play anything without the bling.  Tibia is amazing if you give it a chance, but it is very tough!

The most skilled MMO on the market at this moment in time is WorldOfWarcraft. Im not sure if you've heard of this but it requires alot of skill to play and its probably the hardest MMO(Massively Multiplayer Online [game]) currently available.

Its really hard to get into and play and its relatively unkown, but for the most part the combat is extremely hard to master and its very competitive at the high end PvP(PlayerVSPlayer).

I'd reccomend this game on a skill level of 9/10, the 1 i deducted because otherwise it'd seem unfair. But it deserves a 10.

While that was a great sarcastic post...I think what he meant by skill based is, non-level based.  Such as games like UO.

Sarcasm? No, WoW is possibly the most skill required game out there. You say its trivial, that's just because your probably not very good at most MMOs and WoW wasnt  "Carebear Friendly" enough for you. Im sorry if the big boys owned you in WoW :(
