So orginally I was believing that I can be anything and create anything I want. This would be great. But after reading this I feel it will be race specific.
So I can learn any skill or spell? Almost. Some skills and spells are race specific, meaning you can not learn them unless you are of the appropriate race. The races also have limits on what they can and cant learn. The dwarves for instance, are better at melee fighting than they are at magic, so they can master some awesome melee techniques, but they can not learn some of the most advanced spells. Dwarves are however the best smiths in the world, so they can make magical armor that is alot better than those smiths of other races make. This somewhat makes up for them being a little weak at actual spellcasting.
This sucks, because I want to be a human melee and use blacksmith as a skill. However, it looks like a human will never be able to be as good as a dwarf at this, so in other words, there won't be many human melee/smiths. If they are going to cap races abilities and skill potential then why not just follow the mold of race specific professions like all the other crap out there? I want to be able to craft magical armor and max out my melee skills, but guess what, I don't want to be a stinking dwarf! Very disappointed if this factor is going to stay. Eventually I could see all humans being magic, all dwarves being melee and ect, because after all, why choose an avatar that won't be able to reach the highest level in the skill you desire?

You ask why they don't implement race-based crafting like all of the other MMORPGs out there?
-- It's simple. Because this game in most ways represents a step backwards.
However, in a few it might move the genre forward -- I hope those make up for some of it's lacking aspects.
Where did you get this information please? (link)
I think theres just a few for each race to make them special in some way.
There are supposed to be a few racial weapons, which probably have skills associated with them. Other than that I'm not sure, where did you find that red quote?

I see absolutely nothing wrong with this, it adds a meaningful distinction to each race.. You want to play a human melee smith, go for it. The only people who are going to worry about it are the min / maxers.

Well this blows...
So much for sandbox eh...
This comment makes no sense, just because some races get bonuses does not make it a linear game. Sandbox means you have the choice to do anything, it does not mean "Everyone is equal". You can be a human blacksmith, a dwarf can do the same job maxed but a little better. You are still given the choice to do anything. The little perks are only footnotes to the characters themselves not based solely around them.

Perhaps the information is outdated, just as the line about prestige classes which I believe were dropped as well.

I really don't see why it's such a surprise that different races will have different strengths and weakeness. It adds distintion and flavor to the game. It wouldn't be make much sense if a race as pratical as the dwarves were as good at the magical arts as elves, would it? Or a race as young and diverse as humans knew all the secrets of metal working as such a long lived and tenacious race as the dwarves...
This is probably the case. There are several things on that website that are no longer a part of the game's design. Hopefully if / when they roll out a new website, a lot of the fat on the old one will be gone. There are leaks regarding the base stats of the various races that imply some might be slightly better at some skills than others, but those stats are supposedly raisable.

Lol, just another example of how most of the "mis-information" gets started.
For his own sake, I hope the OP didn't post this on the DF Forums.

This all brings to mind Alliance shaman and horde paladin. Once a distinctive class, rendered into clones by pursuit of 'freedom'.
Being able to have every skill no matter what race you pick does not a sandbox make. All it really does it turn meaningful distinctive differences and player choices into generic meaningless crap. Why care about race if they are all going to be the same?
There is always going to be someone else out there that will do whatever you want to do, better. With or without class differences. Slippery slope. Lets make all races look the same because some races avatar's are easier to aim at then others. when does it end?
The solution isn't to make everyone the same. Better solution is to give each race its own unique traits that no others can learn. If you insist that this hold true for crafting specifically, then maybe each race should have their own unique recipes. That way they stay unique, while still providing reasons to play that race in a certain role. But for god sakes, don't cut off the nose to save the face, and destroy one of the things that makes this game different - meaningful choices and consequences.

What you call a "bonus" I call a gimp. I think the maximum skill level should be 100 or something equilvalent. I don't feel that just because I don't choose to be a dwarf that my melee skills should max out at 90 or however they will have the numbers set. I think any race should be able to be 100% whatever the player creates and not have stipulations put on their max level due to their race.

I did not post on DF forums. I realize the information may be incorrect, but what information about DF is 100% credible at this point, huh? Exactly. We have a fairly good reason to believe that this will be the case on release, but yes, there is the possibility that they are a long way from making race specific classes now. All we can do is discusses the information that is available.
I don't mind if dwarves make better smiths or specific races have higher attributes then one another.
What bothers me is that dwarves wont have access to specific Spells.
Hell i dont care if a dwarf has lower stats as long as he could cast the same spell if i really worked on my Dwarf caster. According to that Info It wont matter if i work real hard on my Dwarf caster because I still wont have access to powerful spells.
Sounds like a limitation to me and everyone knows sandbox fans dont do limitations.
Edit: Before you label me as a troll or hater, think about it for a second. What if you made a dwarf and decided to play a caster. you spent months leveling up magic skills to find out that your dwarf even though you have been casting for a while cant get the AOE spell of pawnage just cause your a dwarf while a Elf or human caster the same skill level can toss AOE bombs anywhere just cause of race....... seems shitty huh?

If you call a class system by any other name people wont notice.
Instead of warriors mages and what not you have races as the base classes. Everyone min/maxes specialy in a pvp centered game. If you dont your a noob.
So instead of picking a class and using feats or whatever points to customize your toon. You pick a race and pick the skills that race is good at. Same thing just a different name.
But seriously Darkfall devs could add in the feature where if you die in game you get kicked in the balls and most the locals here would praise it.

Ha the funny thing is i've seen this page, and read this, but didnt remember when it was posted here. I smoke too much
I can see a lot of people would not like a race specific game,i personally LOVE it.It gives the races and game IDENTITY,it is like you are in a real world ,even if it is fantasy. If the OP got his way,the game WOULD have the potential for EVERY player to be EXACTLY the same, that would be rubbish.I know it would not play out that way,but why even design a game with that major flaw?Races are MEANT to be races,if you do not give them their own identity, you in reality have NO race.DEFINING each individual race also shows EFFORT by the designer, any second rate developer can make one setting the same for everyone, and personally i am disappointed by developers who take that cheap ass approach.
This is the exact same reason a skill based system does not work either, because it allows everyone to be the same,i mean if people cannot see why allowing everyone to be the same is bad for the game and just outright boring, then i can't help them,or explain it any further. No just because your player may look a little different from the opening screen character customization[umm what customization?]it does not make your player different if it's whole design is the same for all.
Like i said the game does not end at the character customization screen, that should not be where your RACE identity ends, there is a whole game there waiting to be played, full of ideas and content based on your Race.
Now there is a way to kind of keep everyone happy, that would be the way EQ2 does it,VG sort of as well. You sort of have to learn the other races language, then earn a trust to advance in quests and such that could lead to other things like new recipes or crafts ect ect. There is a lot of content that could be related to RACE alone,it is up to the game developer to put out the effort.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

That's exactly what I meant. That not even the information from the official games site can be trusted.
And if someone comes along and reads something, and posts a concern/question on the official forums, the typical response will be to to learn to Google, or learn to use the search, or some other bs.

Once again, having a specific race that cant be a awesome caster or is the only natural choice for a smith is a limitation.
In a sandbox limitations blow.
What if I don't want to roll a dwarf? but still want to be a smith?
Since I can't roll an alt i'm limited. I cant make my character exactly the way I want.
poor dwarfs cant get the cool awesome pwnage spellslike the humans no matter how hard that little dwarf studys the school of magic just because of a dev imposed race restriction.
Damn racists lol.

C´mon...who didnt know a Dwarf was the best crafter? Or that a Orc is strong er then a human?
If these things com as a surprise, you have never experienced classic fantasy before.
And for *¤#" sake, this is not a class/level based MMO. So you can be a a amazing human crafter. There is absolutely nothing that forbids it. And you are fre to choose any race you want.
are u stupid? It never said once that you couldn't be a human smith and meelee....so learn to comprehend text?
It's fantasy. Obviously, the stereotype (not necessarily bad) in fantasy says dwarves are master crafters and beasts at melee, but their magic normally blows something hard. (This info is gathered based on things read and seen, then analyzed to fit my own crazy ideas). If every single class could do the same thing exactly the same, 1) uniqueness would be thrown out the window, and 2) incentive for wanting to play one class over any other. It adds a level of realism not seen in many other games. If they follow race specific professions like all the other crap out there, it would further impair the freedom and sandboxiness of the game. I feel it is a better idea, as it makes you consider what race you want to play, based on strengths and weaknesses in a wide range of skills. Also, if fantasy was real (huh?) then perhaps there would be an excellent dwarf caster who also sucked anvils at smithing. But, as a game is scripted, no matter how free they make it, things are always set in presets to a degree. So every dwarf, elf, or human will start with the same stats, even though in real life, one elf might be stronger than another. Its scripted, so it will always be limited.
By the by, I'm not a fanboi or watnot. Not even looking at the game, as I play only f2p. Highschool, .
