Hey all, just got some things to say.
There's been a lot of bashing here, and a lot of immature beahvior(from my side as well) between those who don't like this game and those who does.
Just wanna say that there's a lot of mmo's out there that I don't like either, but I don't see any reason to go there and bash it completely. And ofc, those of us who love this game and pay for it will try to "defend" it. There's many of us who thinks that this particular game deserves a second chance.
If you don't like the game, fine, but there's no reason at all for any of us to argue about what's right or what's wrong. Either you don't like it or you do. That's it.
Some people are continously saying that this and that game are doomed and dead and has failed. apparently not since each and every mmo out there that is "doomed", "dead", and "has failed" actually has a community, wether it's big or small and people who enjoys their game.
Yes, this is a forum and we all have the right to say whatever we like, but continuosly spreading negative comments and unconstructive ideas? That's not a discussion to me, that's just, sorry for this, whining.
If any "doomed", "dead" or "failed" game out there would be so bad, then there wouldn't be any community to speak of, or am I wrong? So to me, any game that actually has a population is more or less succesful since it's still running.
But, like i've said earlier in other posts i've made in defense of this particular game, everyone can't like or enjoy everything and I am thankful for that, different tastes and a free mind is the last thing we got for ourselves these days. And spending it on negative propaganda for own personal "gain" is in my eyes not a good way to spend your time.
Not that I expect people to stop bashing after this, I just wanted to make a point. Stop, think for a second, is it really worth it? Does it really satisfy any of us? I mean, come on, we should all be sharing constructive ideas and encouraging each other instead of sitting like raving mad idiots over a game that we disagree on.
X likes the game, Y doesn't. Wham, it's settled, just drop it.

Ooooooooh, thats right, to DISCUSS WHY we don't like X and/or Y.
Just because someone argue's in an immature way doesn't mean us adults can't argue in a constructive manner.
If people never gave their opinions you'd have to cough up the 60bucks and and actually try the game out for yourself relying solely on what the game companies have said about it....
Hmmm, dunno about you but I like to do my own research and hear from people who have played the game. If someone wants to argue why WoW is better, let them. Yes, most people will be immature, but there are those who have something worthy to say. Hell, even whiners/flamers have their place, although they may be biased, it still adds a +1 against, or for a game, even if they don't give a reason.
Just... take a deep breath and try not to take things so personal.

There is of course never a reason to be rude on a forum but to say your point is kinda the meaning here.
I personally don't think Vanguard is dead but I think SOE needs to do something to attract more players to the game. One idea would be to turn the game into a F2P game with a cash shop, it is far better than anything else that is free and would easily win that market. Another is to revamp the game a bit, add more content and re-release it under a different name.
It deserves more players than it have but SOE totally botched the release and turned most customers off in a week., now that most things are fixed they didn't returned. And I don't see the game growing more than a little unless they do something about it.

To just say "I dont like it" and DROP IT is plain stupid. Why dont you like it? How long did you play it? what features did you like/dislike about it? the number of questions goes on as does the discussion. And by the way, these may offer some ideas/suggestions that could be put to good use by gamers and game developers alike.

This thread is extremely daft. Its basicly saying that people should not post their views unless they like and support the game. The line "there's no reason at all for any of us to argue about whats right or whats wrong" is just stupid. The whole point of the forums is so that people with opposite views can debate about them. If we have different viewpoints then....urrgghh.....we're gonna disagree. The OP is saying that anyone who has anything critical to say about Vanguard should just drop it. No. How about YOU just drop it?
I recently resubscribed to Vanguard for the 4th time to re-evaluate my opinion of it. Its actually not a bad game at all......well.....by the standards of a PvE mmo anyway at least. However one of my biggest problems with the game is the ugly character models. The anatomy is completely wrong and every race uses the same body which is a complete cop-out. They are all basicly the same avatar but with a different head for each race. They look ugly, stupid and lifeless and need to be changed.
I have posted about this on other threads and the typical response from the diehard fans is "Oh well no game is perfect" or "Stop whining and dont play it if you dont like it". In other words the fans totally refuse to discuss anything that feels like an attack against the game. The silly thing is that I am not attacking the game. I am simply pointing out a problem with the game which is letting down the overall quality of Vanguard. What these fans fail to realise is that outright denial is only hurting their game further. They want more players to come and join them but at the same time they refuse to talk openly about whats wrong with it and instead will only talk about its good points. The phrase "sweeping it under the carpet" springs to mind.
This thread is another example of the general attitude of its fans.
I read Farandir's post differently than the rest of you. Also, you have to take his post in context. He posted this after a small flame war had erupted in another thread (which I am embarassed to say that I participated in), and he, IMHO, is just trying to say let's discuss our differences in a civil manner. From the way I read his post, he isn't trying to stifle discussion, but is trying to raise the standard so that valid points (both positive and negative) of the game are discussed and not have the thread devolve into a mess of personal attacks.
As I said, this is the way I interpreted his post and why I agreed with it.

No you DONT get it at all. Life is not black & white. Would I still be playing the game if I hated it? I actually find elements of Vanguard quite interesting. The landscapes look very good. The sound effects are rather well done. There are lots of race/class combinations to choose from. The story telling is reasonably good.
Yet despite all of that when I say that the character models are terrible I get shot down in flames by people who just cannot accept that a game they like actually has problems. I would like to see Vanguard improve as it seriously needs to if it wants to attract more players and judging by the large number of "Please come back to Vanguard" posts we have been seeing for the past year I would say thats what its fans want too.
Yet the moment anyone says something bad about the game they are labeled as haters or trolls. I think the game is quite good for a PvE mmo. However the models seriously lower the overall standard of the game and for me personally they are very distracting and totally ruin what could be a really good game. Thats my opinion. If you dont want Vanguard to improve then how about YOU stop whining like an upset little child about me making constructive critisisms about your dream game. In other words stop taking it so personally.......something the Vanguard community is renowned for......which was clearly mentioned in the recent re-review.
But here we go again.......the personal attacks start to fly already. As Ionselon said above lets try and be civil......but it seems to be impossible to have a civil conversation on these forums. People who try and point out problems with the game and make constructive suggestions about how to fix it are responded to with childish crap like "Oh but no game is perfect" or "You're just a hateful troll" or "go back to WoW if you dont like it".......which is basicly why I rarely bother with trying to be civil because politeness has no place on this website. The only civil conversations which seem to occur on the Vanguard forums are ones where everyone is talking about how brilliant the game is. Mention a problem with the game and you become the "enemy".

Had a very very bad launch (what mmo game does not ?) ((This game servers longest outtage was not even a whole day in SEVEN YEARS and there is not daily shut downs for maintaince either))
Like Vanguard and other fine MMO's like battlegroundeurope (ww2online) was called dead/dying by many but how dead can a game be after a very Solid 7 years and still going ? I think ultima online is the only other mmo game that can claim the same
I allways read up on games before I try ..........but I never let it stop me .......If I did id never have tried any mmo older than a year old............. other than WOW
WOW is not a bad game .......its very easy on the pc lots of players lots of content but I like pure PVP the most where what determines who lives and who dies is based on player skill not GEAR or level (no lvls in battleground europe just rank = access to better equipment does not allways = better kill to death ratios..... so I love www.battlegroundeurope.com/ instead
The lesson to be learned is ..........read before ya buy ........but dont let negative posts stop ya from trying something ya might enjoy playing for Years ........especially when they have a free trial program such as Vanguard
I honestly didn't like the game, and stopped playing it long ago.
Since I''ve never gone back, I don't have much info about this game other than what other folks share here.
From what I've determined, many of the reasons I left still exist, some are fixed/better, and some basic gameplay elements have not changed nor ever will.
I still weigh in sometimes on the game though, because I like discussing things on the forums. I don't try to persecute the game, but feel I can offer my opinion in some cases.

Mmorpg seems to be filled with pepole that just want to see games fail so they can rant about how they knew about their failure a long time ago. Dont we want to see games sucess so the industry will dare to put some money into it? So please keep all your doom/failure/epic failure/dead words to yourself, or just PM them to random pepole.
And if a person dosent like the game and has a valid point ,I for one likes to read that persons opinions so I can see if it can change my view of the game. Thats the point with this forum I believe- to share experiencs with others that share the same intrests. But if a person use the forum to provoke with an "this game sucks. i played it in beta (lol)" then I cant I see the reason why the person roams around at the forum.

It takes all types to make forums worthwhile. There are good aspects and bad aspects to every game. People coming to a forum looking for info on a game need to get a balanced composite of the game. Forums would be worthless if only fans were here posting about the game. Anyone reading these forums needs to understand that there are 3 types of people that post, fanbois, haters, and people in the middle. Some day forums will have the ability to rate people on a spectrum from hater to fanboi that would be kinda interesting.
Anyway people reading forums need all views to get a balanced view of the game. Course everyone reading a forum can pick out the haters and fans pretty quickly and sift through the BS.
So telling people that don't like the game to go away is kinda a disservice to discussions about the game. If you want to talk to people playing the game about aspects of the game as a community you would be better off in the SoE forums. People posting there have the game and are players asking each other questions or posting things they don't like to the developers.

I wish SOE would put resources into the game. Then maybe it would have its second chance, but they wont.
And to say "If you don't like the game as it is now; go somewhere else" is ludicrous for all of us people who paid for the game for the last 2 years. We have a right to voice our concerns just as you have a right to defend what you like.
It is not your right to silence paying coustomers. We have a right to be annoyed at what the game has become and we have the right to voice it.
to this day I believe that if SoE actually put some effort into promoting this game and launching an expansion with some real $$$ behind promoting it they could have a game that would knock the sock off any game they currently run. But alas it looks like they don't work that way. The only hope is that the game grows virally and eventually has enough revenue to fund it's own expansion.
