1. Diablo II : I know, that's not a MMORPG, but the soundtracks are great, each has its own style, and brings a special atmosphere and evoking visions of strange lands. Great music to use in background in roleplaying games (pen & paper).
2. Dark Age of Camelot : Not really the "music" but rather the ambiance musical backgrounds.
Anarchy Online for me. That game has the best atmosphere of any MMO ive played.
Worst has to be EQ1 and its "danger" music when you enter combat heh.

1. Horizons: I don't play the game anymore but can still admit it had the best music i've ever seen in a mmorpg.

1) Ultima X: Odyssey, the best ingame music I have ever heard, period. Rivals the Lord of the Rings movies, since the producer also wrote some music for LoTR.
2) Lineage 2... ya the game is horrid but the music is decent.

Hmm.
#1. World of Warcraft has some superb music (I like the death music, with the faint howling of the wind and trees rustling, it's like so peaceful I could sleep in it)
#2. Freedom Force, the music just made me feel patriotic of beating the Russian menace off.
#3. Baldur's Gate series, very orchestrated stuff makes for adrenaline pumping through the veins during fights and a feeling of warmth in towns.

Well, not sure about MMO's, but for the best music in a computer game I'd have to go with Rome - Total War. The soundtrack in that is absolutely awesome. Thats the first computer game I've played where I haven't turned the music down (or off), but instead turned it up!
For MMO's though, hmm.. been a while since my last MMO, I haven't found anything to get my teeth into for a while so my memory is thin. Neocron had some nice music though, and City of Heroes.

Eve Online dumps on anything other MMORPGs from a height.
It's the only game I've EVER played that I haven't switched the music off.
The music is a thing of beauty. It enhances the mood of the game 1000%. Fantastic stuff.

Lineage 2...
2nd place is Lineage 1, but only fairly rescently... the old MIDI music that played EVERYWHERE was horrid... the new music is pimped out though =P
3rd place... hmmm... Ragnarok ^^ i KNOW im gonna get flamed for it, but that music is catchy as hell... half the time it doesnt suit the setting at all, but that's all part of its charm IMO...

EQ & EQ2 have the most soothing and most beautifull music ever. Everytime i play anyone of them i feel good somehow just for having that kind of music in the game. EQ makers are just complete geniuses even though SOE kind of screwed up the whole EQ now. I Still love it and ofcourse for me its best game ever made >PERIOD<
EVE, but who can really say? has anyone here played EVERY game?
I have only played 2 MMOGs, EVE and MCO (bet you half of you don't know that one half as well as it deserves, and the other half of you know half as much as you derserve)

I know this is about the best music.. but the worst, is City Of Heroes. At first, I thought it was kind of cool, just because I was excited playing a new game. After a week, it was turned off.. for good.
Best... would have to be EVE. Sadly, it's what I looked forward to most when I logged on.
WoW ... I like it.. but it just feels like it was ripped off from Braveheart/Gladiator. Have James Horner and Hans Zimmer been working together recently?
And it sounds like a lot of people like the music from Lineage 2. If anyone can post a link for that, i'd appreciate it. The Dark and Light music was pretty cool.. thanks for the link!

I would have voted for Everquest because I love the music but todays games have soundtracks that just sound better. A remake of EQ music would be awesome on a CD.
I would have voted for EVE Online, but all the tracks sounds too much alike, at least they did for the week or so I played.
I would have voted for Guild Wars, but I only heard a sampling of the music, and there is way too much going on in-game, without a moments rest, to really be paying any attention to background music.
I would have voted for World of Warcraft, but I should really wait until I've played the final version for a while.
Horizons music was by far the most atmospheric. Lineage II was the strongest, with very fitting music to PvP battles and stuff (powerful, high energy type music). Only the tracks were short and only came on for a bit when you entered an area.
Same with Star Wars Galaxies, there wasn't that constant playing of music in the background, which can really get on someones nerves, but I like background music most of the time, with an option to turn in off, or at least lower the volume.
Saga of Ryzom music is the worst because, err, there isnt any. I haven't logged in since the patch 1 so maybe this is fixed, I know there is a theme for the game.
Listening to Everquest II music on the pre-order CD, it looks like this will be in the running to vote for best music, but like WoW, I'll wait to play the final version for a while before judging.
