MMORPG.COM News: Warhammer Online Lives On

AdminAdmin Administrator RarePosts: 5,623

Gamespot recently posted an interesting piece that seems to confirm that Warhammer Online is indeed alive and well inside Climax despite earlier claims that the entire project was dead.  Here is a bit from the article:

In late June, Games Workshop's Robin Dews said that "a full review of the progress of the game, [as well as] costs to date and future costs of the project" prompted canceling continued development. At that time it was suggested by both developer Climax and publisher Games Workshop that the game was dead on the vine.

However, as it turns out Warhammer Online has merely been "on sabbatical." According to a representative contacted by GameSpot, Climax "never stopped working on" Warhammer Online. The developer said Climax continues to self-fund development while it shops the game to publishers.

Nice! Now if UXO would just return from the dead, I'd be really happy. :)

Although I´d rather see Dragon Empries (western version of KEKEKE, with an intelligent twist) reborn, I would LOVE for Warhammer Online to come out.

If they release it, I will offer to give birth to their babies. For you that go "Well, thats not such a biggie", I can tell one fact, I am male, which in turn means there would have to be some serious surgery on my pale behind before anything could happen. That doesn´t change the fact that I would do anything to give birth to their babies, should Warhammer Online get released..

I am really glad to see that this game is still being worked on.  Its ironic that I was just talking to a friend about it two days ago.  Its not that I am a Warhammer fanatic, but the setting seems very unique, with the whole dark, edgy feel.  I think if they make sure that it is truly ready for release when it is launched it will be successful because it is something more on the unique side.  Not just another cookie cutter game.

I am still amazed when I hear someone say "It's not just another cookie cutter game."  No offense, I am with you there and wish more games weren't a cookie cutter game.  But then why are all the most popular MMORPGs just cookie cutter games.  Obviously people like cookie cutter games or are they just afraid to try something new?

i would say that they are afraid but, i belive in a little saying what aint broke, dont need fixin. as do most of us teens cause we are just plain lazy lol.

this game would be awsome but to do it they would have to do it right and make sure all the history is in there somewhere cause that is all they got left in this game.war hammer is all about making a army i dont know how it can jsut be about one person. the mmo takes away all that war hammer is about.

unless they have alteast a dozen classes (all different) for ever race and all the main races. from what i remember they dont got much in the way of this tho. (points up to the first paragraph)

    Oops My Bad

I think I just wet my pants... image

This is the best gaming news ever... even better than when they first announced WO.

I think I'll go ponder this happy news and go look at pictures of scantly clad dwarves on the WO website...

I was a big fanboy of WO after being a big fanboy of the Warhammer PnP RPG. This is very good news to me. I hope they find a publisher.

Personally I would rather them make a 40k MMO since there are plenty of Fantasy games, either out or coming out, to choose from.

It seems to be indeed true that is back, several reports on several different sites say that Climax has confirmed the rumours: they will indeed continue to make WO! Very good news, but the game may be difefferent without Games Workshop backing it... Copyrights might mean that they will have to change certain things, who knows?  Also if anyone reading this is from the old WO community which shut down the link to the site which was created by the fans in an attempt to keep the community togeather after WO demise awhile back is: www.warhammeronlineforum.com There is also Project Phoenix, a project that was created to make a replacement game for WO after it was cancelled but now I'm not sure if it will be continued... I think that it will be, but there won't be as much enthusiasm about it, however we are trying to make a MMORPG with all the best gaming qualities with the communities opinions and help... www.projectphoenix.warhammeronlineforum.com Anyway: YAY IT'S BACK, IM SO HAPPY!!!!! imageimage        image          image                            image                                              image                               image

    Hi,

I'm also happy about it's continuing development.

But to put you straight, it's not just based on the tabletop wargame.  Also, developed in the 90's, was warhammer fantasy roleplaying game. A pen and paper roleplaying game based in the warhammer world.  The game will be based on this, using similar character development and advancement rules.  The game was ok to play, and can still be found (they re published it a few years ago).  Just because all anyone associated Games workshop with is miniature games, don't assume anything :)

Actually it's pretty good marketing by GW (again) because if the game is good, and I'm expecting it to be, there will be an increased awareness of Warhammer fantasy rp, and it's associated games (eg Mordenheim, Gothic, Blood bowl, etc etc)  plus probably boost the miniature games too.  If there is one thing GW know, it's how to wring money out of kids and their parents!!  (and us older people too :)  )

    Chris
