I'm a natural pessimist like many on these forums. I used to think DF would never come out, period. while I still think us skeptics are right about some things, and many of the statements from tasos are total marketing lies, I am now a "fan" of darkfall. darkfall wont deliver all of its promises, but I now think it will deliver enough to be one heck of a fun game.

before it was all words and bad screenshots, and a forumfull of delusional asshats. but after reading and watching recent leaks, this game IS going to kick ass.

yes its not pollished

yes it probably not even finished

yes the community will make me cringe

yes it probably wont meet the next release date

but the devs actually respond to the community. not in words, they fail at public relations, but in awesome patches. the game offers content and gameplay no other mmo can hold a candle to, yet anyway.

There are tons of people on dodgy sites I wont link selling and buying beta accounts. while this is epically stupid considering the current release date, it shows just how desperate people really are for this type of game. it will be the ultimate marmite game, you either love it or you hate it. and it doesn't care it doesn't want to appeal to more than one audience.

so I am pre-ordering, optimistic despite past hype for games never being justified. I like to think i'm not a complete fanboy but really don't care anymore. count on a objective review posted here once it does ever come out though!

I wouldn't put too much faith in the current release date.  I'd say 6-9 months from now would be more realistic.

    DAS1337...

    LOL.

Can't a person have both? Besides, some of the people here on these forums aren't old enough yet, right?

And even still, All "V" and no G (Game) makes jack a dull boy. Ya gotta have plenty of "game" to get that V in the first place. ...Well, maybe not the same kinda "game" but it sounded good. Heh.

You dont say?  Why would you think 6-9 months is more realistic?  Im assuming your basing this on pure "opinion" rather then facts.

Ya trying to say that you are sexy and polished more so then Darkfall is right now, or what? lol.

Darkfall is looking kinda fun in some of those videos.. but one thing it isn't looking right now is sexy or polished, that's for sure.

Does it matter why I say 6-9 months?  It's my opinion, and we'll just have to wait and see.

Because of the current state of the game.  This is judging from conversations with beta testers, and what many beta leaks suggest.  I'm sure they probably could release on-time but I would guess if they did they would really let down a lot of people.

You are wrong about that much time.  It could go on the 25th.  I would go for Mar 15th or Mar 25th if I was them though.  You have some pretty negative selective leak reading skills don't you?

Well as you said before you edited it, it was based off of what you read.

Does it matter why you say 6-9 months?  Yes it does.  Because the way you said it makes if sound like its a fact.

I see darkness with a little light at the end of the tunnel. The light represents darkfall, and that light is getting a tad bit bigger. I am going to wait till after I get my trial and test it. I also want to see how review sites rate it and then compare that to player reviews. I am betting you sites like mmorpg.com will give it dirt reviews for not letting them try it out earlier, plus they will score it HIGHLY on the ammount of bugs, or problems DF has...  I want to see how the community settles and so when I can hear about some more high end things like once people get really high up in skills, do seiges, explore dungeons, ect. I want to get a good scoop before I even put a penny onto this game.

I do however believe that anybody who has popcorn for DF's failure will probably end up eating it beacuse they will "in their own minds" Believe that DF failed, because they will be seeing lots of gripe and whining about WoW players not liking the game. As amatter of fact, if their is one thing I have noticed, it is how exadurated and doomsdayish everything is on a forum after release..."ANY RELEASE" Compared to the actuall mmo ingame itself.

DF has 1 niche community it is reaching out to, and despite how polished it may not be, I don't think the niche community it reaches to is cynical enough to let that get to them. This game is almost a guarenteed success because to succeed, the only thing it really needs to do is get the proper playerbase it is looking for, in fact, if it gets people to come to it from other playerbases that really dont fit into DF niche, then it will have gone beyond a success. Due to the fact that it only has 1 really niche place to fill, I believe ALOT of people will be giving this game a ton of shit on the forums, which will barely represent what DF is truly about, or who it is for.

Example: """ quit WoW for this game and WTF is suxxors, i cant even kill the goblems cuz they run alot, and everything is slowz! WTF, why do they make it so weriddds!!! This game sux and the gfx sucks balls, wow looks alot nicer than thiss cuz it has good art direction, thjis has a very non woish artsey direction so it sucks, also people keep killing me!!! WHY!!!!!! This game blowss!!!!"""

DF may be the one game where #'s truly dont mean everything, regardless if they dont fuck up the launch on a abysmal level, and they put it out their properly, I think DF may get quite the ammount of subscriptions.

from what i have seen in beta leaks, it is the failure i thought it would be. Combat looks horrible, almost as bad as Roma Victor.

EDIT: i never expected it to NOT release, i just expected a bad game at release.

Combat happens to be an extremely refreshing experience.  You actually feel like you are fighting rather than target + 1,2, 3....lots of satisfaction after a kill, and strategy and player skill plays a HUGE roll (not just talking about aiming your attacks).

Add on top of that the fact that there is a HUGE amount of variety in attacks and defense, and little time to adapt makes studying your opponent a big time part of the fight.  Lots of magic schools and different weapons with various reaches, speeds, etc...never know what you are getting yourself into.  (you dont instantly know what class and lvl someone is ala WoW or WAR).

    Not to mention friendly fire....

This is not WoW or WAR...challenging rewarding combat is what DF is all about.

"If people were dismissing it, then they wouldn't be talking about it. The well-meaning gamers root for efforts that try to raise the bar. So who's left? It's so easy being a skeptic." -Tasos

I see a lot of dark with a tiny pinprick of light coming through that sometimes gets a little bigger and sometimes gets covered over altogether.

That analogy pretty much sums up how I feel about DF.

pfft you can't compare it to roma victor. no game has ever had a combat system worse than roma victor. even NES games, hell even ATARI games have better combat than roma victor

I've always been a fan of the ideas behind DARKFALL and I continue to wish the game well because I think the MMORPG market needs a lot of the features they're trying to accomplish in MAINSTREAM popular games, because the popular MMORPG's have as much depth as POP MUSIC.

oh its going to come out alright. The community is not so bad really. You may hate me but Im pushing for them not to release it until it ready.  It should not be released this month. They need another 3-4 at least.

the only big fail when it comes to darkfall are the handful of people who didn't carefully read the developer journals and who in their minds have made Darkfall out to be the saviour MMO of all time. THESE are the true Darkfall failures, the game itself is fine, even great, even with a few rough edges. It is still the most intense, engaging and overall FUN MMO around.

OP is right, you'll either love it or hate it.

Kind of hard to either love or hate a game, logically, when its not even out yet. Why cant people just wait, and hold off their judgement until the game it out. Its not that hard to be neutral, really.

What most people are forgetting, is its a Project, they wont release the game and it stays like that forever, they will keep updating it so it will only become more awesome. Every game starts out a bit odd because its different to what you usually play and you have to get used to it. All games including WoW and Guild Wars started as a average 6/10 game and got better as time went on.

All im trying to say here is that you should'nt judge the game from beta leaks or the fact they are a bit behind in releasing. We should wait to see how it turns out.

I see the light, and it is getting brighter

I have said for a long time, that the thing that will be MOST likely to "kill" Darkfall is its rabid fan base.  But that's just my opinion.

I think if people would just STFU already about this game (including the worshippers, the naysayers, and the ambivalent, as well), that the game would likely release (when Aventurine feels it's ready...whenever that is...and then we could all look at the REALITY of the ACTUAL game with some objectivity.

NO ONE is being very objective at THIS point, because there is no solid finished game to really base anything on firmly.  So what we have is speculation on BOTH sides of the controversy, regarding the game itself.  Yes, there is concrete evidence that Tasos has handled things very poorly, however, that still isn't the game ITSELF that anyone is judging.

I say Judge the game when it is actually released, whether it be 25th Feb, months from now, a year from now. No point watching 1 beta leak video and seeing the graphics (I admit they are a little choppy) and hardly any gameplay and then Loving/Hating the game totally based on that.

Love and hate have no logical basis.

There are people who 'love'  Dark n Light.  There are people who 'love' Tabula Rosa.

I'm sure there will people who love Darkfall just because their pride will make them say it.  But this is a very amateur and dated game without any real features.  The combat is terrible and the server-side stuff has not been, and will not be tested until launch.  2000 beta testers?  How are you ever going to stress test a server with that few people.

Just a terrible game that will have a small following like Dark n Light and Tabula Rosa.

Sorry but you are wrong on so many accounts. Btw Dark and Light failed because it stole someone elses technology for the living world system, they broke their own game in order to change the code so it wouldnt be considered their own design. Again this broke the game even more, they are still dealing with the lawsuit.

I am sure some people here are REAL beta testers and if they could they would tell you the same thing, that being that you have no idea what you are talking about. No one knows how good or bad the game will be until its released and the content has been explored to its fullest.
