Why I really hate WoW

1994 - Warcraft: Orcs & Humans

1995 - Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness

1996 - Warcraft II: Beyond the Dark Portal

1996 - Diablo

1998 - StarCraft

1998 - StarCraft: Brood War

2000 - Diablo II

2001 - Diablo II: Lord of Destruction

2002 - Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos

2003 - Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne

2004 - World of Warcraft

For those of us that love Blizzard games other than WoW, WoW is a huge buzz kill.

    Why is the sky blue?

Good question. The sky is blue because of a process called Rayleigh scattering. When light from the Sun reaches the atmosphere, it strikes the molecules in the air and is scattered in all directions. The extent to which light is scattered depends on its frequency. Blue light, which has a high frequency, is scattered many times more than other colours. As more blue light is scattered, it becomes the dominant colour, causing bright blue skies on clear days.

My point is a big part of PC gaming used to be Blizzard, which was killed by Blizzard because of WoW.  We don't get one great Blizzard game every year now, now it's like every 10.

It sucks and it sucks big time.

It was obvious what you were trying to say but very unrealistic. First off...you should LOVE WoW. Wanna know why? Because the more money WoW makes, the more Money Blizzard has to develop more games. Since WoW, Blizzard has been able to relocate to a new HQ in Irvine...its massive. Since WoW, they have been able to hire more and more developers for different projects. They were even able to pull in a Black Isle developer, hes working on diablo 3.

WoW earned them enough money to ensure that they can take their time with a project, and not have to worry about its budget.

With every generation of games, from 2d to 3d, the cost of development goes up. A LOT. The time needed to make these current generation and or next generation games also goes up. A LOT. Blizzard has been working on Diablo 3 for years, it has gone through many tests before finalizing on what you see now. Same with Starcraft 2, which is so massive its going to have 3 seperate game boxes, one narrative for each race. They are also developing a new franchise, something Bliz hasnt done since diablo, and its going to be for their next mmorpg.

None of this would have been going on if it were not for the success of WoW. This means Blizzard has 3-4 strong projects going on all at once, and the money to fund them all.

You should be thanking WoW. Games dont take a year to develop anymore. They take 3-4 years on average. Their budgets are often higher than a hollywood film's budgets, and blockbuster titles even more.

    tsk tsk tsk.

the only 2 other valid arguments for Wow hate is now: the community of  Wow players and Blizzard themselves.
Just because they create succesful games, they are hated and we who like to play a game are hated too.
    Weird site indeed.

Polished, yes maybe. Quality? No. WotLK looks good, no question. But under the hood it's the very same old game mechanics with some new textures on top. Still no housing, mostly pointless crafting. Even more worse, WoW has become so stupidly easy since WotLK - it's horrible. Even in the lower levels no one cares about tactics and thinking anymore. Yeah, of course, all classes have to be equal. The lowest common denominator is AoE tank, raw AoE DPS and heal. It's ok if you like the Diablo playstyle or any other hack 'n' slash game.

Still, WoW has many nice features. No doubt about that. Yet I feel Blizzard could do much better. If they so wished. But by making the game accessible to the widest audience possible in order to get even more cash we the players have to pay a fee.

As someone who started playing the WarCraft games in 1995, I know EXACTLY what the OP is talking about.  To those of you who think that wow is WarCraft, well -- ignorance is bliss.  You are happy, Blizzard with 11 million people paying to play wow each month is happy, and I am happy having moved on to other games.  Win, win, win.  But make no mistake, Blizzard raped their own franchise...and sadly, it has paid them huge dividends.

Humans perceive sound objects spatially, using the difference in the phase (time delay) of the sound and the difference in amplitude (level) between the two ears, in a similar way that stereoscopic sight provides depth perception. Also called two primary cues for azimuth (horizontal location) but possibly its two primary cues for a 3 dimensional bearing. For example when you hear a seagull call out you can determine roughly x y and z location of the sound. Although Pinnae reflections are considered a main cue for vertical localisation.

I think they may take another 5 to 10 years to finish them.

Damn you Blizzard!  Damn you for making quality products and raising the bar for game companies.

But back on topic.  I suspect the huge success of WoW really caught Blizzard off guard.  So they were allocating all their resources to keeping that monster at bay, which most likely caused the delay of the other games.  So OP, I guess I can see your point.  But hey, diablo 3 and the starcraft 2 trilogy will be coming out in the next few years, so thats something to be happy about.

So Diablo III, Starcraft II, and an unnannounced MMO aren't enough for you?  Minus the fact that they had two expansions since WoW came out (Expansion also take up your 1996, 2001, and 2003 slots) which have been a great addition to the gameplay and story.

I remember waiting for Half-Life 2 for what seemed like a millenia~ Valve did jack-else between HL1 and 2, but it was worth the wait.  Now Portal, L4D, TF2, HL2:ep I and ep II etc~  The lesson I learned, is that I don't mind waiting for a company to put out an amazing game, even if it takes a decade.  More oft than not, a tide of games inundates us from the company after their huge success and I welcome it.

    Garnish some patience~

The part of my brain that can anticipate future games no longer functions. That stopped working a few years ago.

In my brain a game is out now, or it is never going to exist.

I see where the OP is coming from and can somewhat agree with the sentiment but Blizzard proven time and again that they release quality games and after that warcraft adventuregame fiasco their philosophy of "its done when its done" served them well. So I don't mind the wait. Good things come to those who wait, or however that saying go in english (not my main language). Besides the development time of nextgen games is very long nowadays. The cost is way high too. The cost even went past those super expensive hollywood flicks ages ago. Come to think of it, none of the Blizzard games are bad. Their all masterpieces ^^

Isn't WoW still boasting over 10 million people playing? Probablly more since Wrath of the Lich King released.

So think about it in these terms....

If one wow player came to your house and poke one of your relations in the eye every day. Your releations would be getting poked in the eye for 27, 397 years! Thats a long fricking time to be getting poked in the eye!

    Not so nice guy!
