I have have tried the EQII beta for a little week now, and even though my heart lies with WoW (havent tried it), I want to answer the stated question, as I believe many would have doubts and would honestly want to know; "is it realy that nice while playing?"
Yes! it is. I play on a 2.6 AMD with with 1024 normal ram, and a Radeon 9700. It runs like a kitten, and is as beautiful as the video while I play on Balanced or High Performance. On Very High Performace or Extreme Performance, I get lag. But even on Balanced its amazing.
I remember back in AO when I stopped to watch the sunset. Well last night, when my char stood under some lightbulb, the lighting shadowing effect, was so amazing, it was like reliving Dragons Lair for the Amiga back then. It is very very nice.
If the gameplay can match this, even halfway, I will play this game. As of yet, I simply do not know.

I'm sorry...but I'm not sure I understand what your asking or stating. You are in the beta and your asking if the ingame play is the same as the video? Yes it is. But you should be able to see that...all the video does is show areas that most of us have not been to yet.
Or...are you trying to say "YES" the ingame play is the same as the video?
It's early...I'm so confused
IMO...ALL games look better ingame, rather than the video. (if the video is actual gameplay footage)

"Aye...that it will."
With the exception of the harsh lag in Qeynos, I am truely enjoying the beta. They sure live up to their name Everquest.... You can't take a pee without a quest in there somewhere. Thats not a bad thing btw.
I hope with the release and all the servers up, lag will drop

I am also in Eq2 beta and have been for awhile. I signed up for WOW fileplanet stress test twice so I would know which I wanted to invest my money and time into. Both games are very different. I, myself, do not like the cartoony look of WOW and find the graphics of EQ2 to much nicer. I like the character development in EQ2 better and combat, but this is just a personal preference cause WOW is a great game and I can see how others would prefer that game to EQ2.
I know through reading EQ2 patch notes that the game developers have done things to the graphics to optimize performance for todays hardware as the game is really optimized for future hardware. The graphics you are seeing are only the tip of the iceberg from what I understand. I know from in game play they have changed some of the effects as to reduce some of the performance issues. At first when I noticed they took some of the cool looking particle effects away to replace them with something more boring, I was upset, but when the game became more stable and group play was less laggy, I understood. As I see it, upon release, the world will be filled with people with many types of machines and connections and in order to allow for the best game play for all they had to modify somethings. I also found they continued overtime to modify some of the boring looking particle effects to make them look better and they they continue to place lots of fine details into the game.
