Interplay has just re-launched. At this link.
With talk of a brand-new MMO "Project V13."
And guess what Chris Tayler, a game designer for the original FALLOUT 1 & 2 has joined in.
Along with other original designers and such.
Interplay holds the license to make a Fall-out MMORPG and now the time has come.
im happy, and im sure fall-out series fans are happy.
4-7 years from now we could be shooting plasma rifles at deathclaws with people from china. i love it : ) what do u guys think.

OMG. That's great NEWS! Love the fallout franchise, and the fact that they will have an Fallout MMORPG will be phenomenal. Since Fallout gameplay is exactly suited for MMOs. I hope they would complete this sooner. There are rumors that it will be launched on 2011.
Also, interplay host an online chess server. Everything I love, chess and fallout, they have it all in one site!
www.interplay.com
Rather have them try to make something original... then fall on Fallout to make a mmorpg. But it will be intresting to see. Hope it turns out being good in the future... Fallout games are pretty damn fun.
I thought I tried that with Tabula Rasa?
its not really all that new. Once bethesda weasled their way into buying out the fallout franchise, they allowed Interplay to continue to work on the mmorpg, which they were doing before the buyout. However Bethesda, the evil bastards they are, put some unrealistic restrictions on the project. Everything also has to go through Besthesda in order to get approved.
The conditions are as follows....a) started to work on it within 2 years of signed over the Fallout rights; b) were able to secure $30 million of funding, to do the job right; and c) finished the game before April, 2013.
Bethesda can easily delay them until it goes past the deadline, Interplay only has about 3 and a half years, probably less, to get the game out. MMORPGs take longer to develope than a few years, especially on the scale of Fallout. Bethesda not only takes a huge cut of the profits but also is in a very advantagous position to steal the project at a later date by making sure those conditions are not met.
Anyways, I hope Interplay can pull off a good job, but to be honest, they dont have enough time and they have an evil company looking over their shoulder. This is a drama just waiting to happen, just you watch. Lawsuits will be filed, just wait for it.
I have another thread on this.
To summarize, Interplay has until April of this year to raise 30 million dollars and start development. Its highly unlikely this is going to happen.
After they default, Bethesda gets the rights to make a Fallout MMO
And then they further bastardize the Fallout franchise and ruin my hopes of ever having a game in the same vein as the original. I never could get into Morrowind, Oblivion or Fallout 3, I doubt I'd like their MMO.
Now if a mircale happains and Interplay develops with some of the original team, well, just thinkin' about it makes me all tingly in my cockles.
It's a shame they didn't put StoneKeep in their Games list, man I loved that game.
Interplay was the bomb.
Well you wouldnt think that interplay : ) would have problems being that they and black isle first started the series.
U would think that they would get the funding from some one.
But all-in-all they can use this game to re-establish themselves into the gamming industry. So i think they will bust bawls just to get it done.
I love bethesda, but when they made fall-out 3 i felt as if it were, " Babied Down."
The felt like it had lost its core, the gritty, shoot anything that walks, no second chances core.
The story was really shifted and i think there AI could have been better. The game felt like they tweaked oblivions engine and cut and pasted it into fall-out 3. Wich i think they did.
But if interplay can pull this off it would make a great MMO, as long as it has new reno and the california republic in it. dunno my 2 favorite places.

I'm curious about all the dislike shown here towards Bethesda's entry into the Fallout series... I personally loved the game, and also loved the first 2 as well. I've also seen several polls on various gaming sites asking which Fallout game people thought was the best, and across the board Fallout 3 has won, by a LARGE margin. It one MANY game of the year and various other awards throughout the industry... So why all the hate? (Like I said, just curiousity, I'm definitely not trying to tell or prove anyone they're wrong.)

Where would you like to start? Where Todd Howard helped oust the founder of Bethesda to take over his role? Perhaps its the Company take over? Oblivion also won numerous awards, and it ranks one of the highst in worsed designed games of all time. The constant dumbing down of franshises, simplifying gameplay so that todd howard can understand it. Perhaps its how Bethesda relocated Fallout to appear on their home turf, not just buying the rights to make the game, but pushing Interplay to sell them the entire franchise for a small 5 mill. Falllout 3 went from a pen n paper styled whitty Crpg to a first person shooter with character development and a bad design.
The fact that games like fallout 3 and Oblivion are praised in this day and age is a sign that humanity is becoming much like whats seen in the film Idiocracy.
I have no respect for Bethesda, they follow the might makes right business model and cheated the founder out of his own company. Its run by a bunch of crooks now, they are not interested in great games, but rather great profit. Bethesda formed from the idea of pen and paper rpg lovers bringing that same joy into the digitial arena. Hobbyist not business men were the creative force. Now its the otherway around. EA started off with good intentions too, the found had to leave and they ended up being converted into a source of "evil", one that has damaged and destroyed some of the most creative and indepenant development studios.
Bethesda knew that some of the black isle guys were and have been trying to get the Fallout franchise back from interplay. They swooped in, nabbed it, and even made a point not to hire any of the original developers for the project, even though they applied.
Have you ever read some of the crap that comes out of Todd Howards mouth btw? Some of it is just out right insulting to Black Isle, and shows a complete lack of game design theory or creative thinking. Hes a toddler, a child who likes flashy bangs and toys. Nothing more, and his position is earned for helping zenimax oust the founder and take over.
V13 = Vault 13 from the first Fallout game.
Can't they just say that they are working on Fallout Online?
All this secrecy is pretty lame and unnecessary, imo.
I strongly believe that Bethesda can make a better Fallout Online than Interplay can these days.
Sure they (Interplay) were great at making fun games in the past but that has all but faded away now.
Hmm, my friends who are Fallout fans where all dissapointed, however the guys I know that loved the Elder scrolls games loved it.
I don't think people here hate Bethesda but having the creator of the serie do the online version is not a bad idea. I am sure it will look better if Bethesda do it but the question is still if it will be a true Fallout MMO, fallout 3 kinda fellt more aimed to younger people than the first 2.
I rather prefer that Bethesda is working on a online version of Elder scrolls instead and leave Fallout to Interplay, I wouldn't mind playing both those games

If Interplay weren't so lazy they would already be on their fourth (single player) Fallout game and already launched Fallout Online with huge success.
No protests there...
Project V12 = Fallout Online?
At least it's a rumor. I hope not, post apocalyptic MASSIVELY MULTIPLAYER online game... NO.
Although I am looking forward to it.

I guess I must be in a minority then... I was a big fan of the first 2 Fallouts, but haven't really been a fan of the Elder Scroll series since 'Arena', which I still say was the best and they've gone steadily downhill since. Oblivion was one of my least favorite games of all time... So I'm definintely not a fan of Fallout 3 just cause I'm a Bethesda/Oblivion fan. And I also generally don't care for FPS games, so that can't be it either...

Try to get it right.
It's Project V13.
Vault 13 was the name of the place that you begun your journey from in the first Fallout game.
That PlayStation 2 Fallout game was pretty "meh" and I couldn't believe that Interplay had made it.
I think it's due to the shift in the gaming market since Fallout 1 and 2 were released and the platforms on which they were released. Fallout 1 and 2 were PC only in an age where not a lot of people played PC games and were mostly RPGs. Fallout 3 is more of an action shooter with RPG elements, which action games are more popular than RPGs and it's available on PC, XBox and PS3, which widens it's playerbase over the previous titles. I would feel safe in assuming that many of the people who love Fallout 3 didn't ever play the originals.

I wouldn't say a minority. I think you may simply be a minority _here_. Threads often pull people in who have some emotional investment in the topic at hand. Somebody who merely enjoyed all of the Fallout games won't react passionately to, and thus is far less likely to read or post in, a thread like this. On the other hand, somebody who had very high expectations of Fallout 3, but felt betrayed because the game fell short in their view, is very likely to respond to a thread like this.
Regarding the reason for these differences, consider that each person defines a game by a specific, and likely distinct, schema. These schemas are in significant portion the product of a person's experience. The kind of people who are on these forums likely have significant video game experience, dating back a long time, and the kind of people who were compelled to join this thread likely have played both Fallout and Fallout 2 during or close to their heyday. When you say "Fallout," they have a significantly different image of what that means than somebody who was introduced to the series by Fallout 3. Consider that part of their schema is likely Interplay. You're a lot more likely to get hardcore fans of the original games by mentioning it than if you started a thread about Bethesda.
Actually, I thought F3 was quite good, but I liked the earlier better. Doesn't make me feel betrayed at all, I just rather Bethesda focus on a elder scroll game and leave Fallout to Interplay. And many players who played the whole series just seems to like the first 2 games better, if they havn't played them they kinda misses the point of who should make the MMO.
My favorite Bethesda game is Daggerfall, I loved that game. Oblivion and Morrowwind was OK but not as fun to me.
Well, i've played fallout 1 & 2 also. But when i loaded fallout 3 for the first time, i was dissapointed,Mad, and my jaw was dropped. I really just wanted to smack some one and say why!. But other then that no problems.
" AND WHO THE $^&% WANTED TO PUT VOICE ACTORS FROM OBLIVION INTO FALLOUT>"
Like i said before, i got the instinctive feeling that oblivions engine was cut & pasted. That the only thing different was the tweak on the graphics.
The core to fallout was gone, i felt as if the story was so jumbled that some times it wouldent make sense.
of course i went through and beat the game becuase i always beat them, even if i hate them.
But i really think bethesda should stick to elder scrolls. I like bethesda but i did not like there take on fallout.
Becuase fallout 1 & 2 are older games, alote of new gamers loved it. But alote of people that i know that first originally beat fallout 1 & 2 . Thought the game was " Just not like it should have been."
i love fallout, god it's got to be my favorite game series of all time. i took it a lil personnal

I agree with the above, while I did greatly enjoy F3, I definitely preferred F1 and F2 more. But I think that had a lot more to do with standards at the time of their respective releases. Back in the days of F1/F2, those games stood so much higher than their competition it wasn't even close. Now days, the overall standard as been raised so high, it's really hard, if not impossible, for a game to stand out as much as they did back in the day.
Also, for the record, Bethesda already has an MMO in the works, for a year and a half now or so, at their Zenimax Online Studios office in Maryland, headed up by Matt Firor of Mythic/DAoC fame:

I couldn't even bring myself to beat it. I just used the PC version cheats to speed through.
You must have beat the game quick then, cuz it's main story line could probly be done all in about 5-10 hr's : )
god another point i did not like....short storys * mumbles under voice* blah
