There's been no news of the U.S. release date. Speculation sets it around the beginning of '09 but no news have come out of the mouths of any developers or staffs. Sure, it's doing fine in Asia but who says it has to be released at all in the U.S.? They are fine with the profits in Korea and China alone, so delaying the release for the U.S. for an indefinite time is not that farfetched.
Please look for an alternative now and not be dissapointed when one, two, four, eight months pass by with no news of Aion's release. It is U.S. vaporware.
Comments
ofcourse it isnt vaporware
They have said all along that korea will launch 1st, then 2-3 months later China will launch, then 2-3 months NA/EU will follow.
Seems to me they are right on track.

NCsoft has recently indicated it's nearing completion. We're not getting a traditional beta. WIth the shift of the NA studios from Austin to Seattle they've had a lot on their plate. I know they were just hiring for the NA community manager position recently. With any luck we'll be hearing some news soon.
In the interim chapter 6 of the lore explaning the aftermath of the Epic Cataclysm was just posted.

We are getting news..
Lore updates come in now and then. We can read developer-blogs. We have active community managers. A new community manager was actually just hired (Liv). We get news and updates from people playing Korean retail, and translations.
A date for the start of our preview events is soon expected to come, since NCsoft staff claim they are making good progress with all the preparations. There has been no official news of release yet because they want to be completely sure that they can meet that date first.
As for vaporware, lolz.. I'm sure they aren't hiring Aion-staff because they think it's fun to spend money...
Vaporwarz, no... even I know that!
On a side note, I am hoping that ncsoft has learned a valuable lesson in that NA players look upon botting in a much different (and far less tolerant) light. But then again, they did let the Garrett bros rob them blind
<Insert insult about ur fat mom here>
Did someone drop you on your head as a baby? You can go to the website and notice an update right there, posted a few days ago. You can also check multiple gaming sites for info abou tthe game. Just because a release date hasn't been announced yet doesn't mean its vaporware. I guess every game without a release date is vapor, right?
Get out of here and stop infecting these boards with your stupidity.
Vaporware is a global concept, not a local one. To declare a game vaporware in one place after it has already released in another makes about as much sense as declaring two graphs to be locally isomorphic, even if they aren't really isomorphic.
While no longer technically accurate, still closer to being true than the original post...

"Hey, if Activision liked it, then they should have put a ring on it," Double Fine President Tim Schafer said. "Oh great, now Beyonce is going to sue me too."
I had this hands-on at PAX for around 30 minutes with the US producer one-on-one. He answered every question I asked of him and told me that unlike some other NCSoft titles Aion was being produced differently. The game was actually getting a TRUE localization and not just a translation (google localization if you don't know what it means). They also were not setting a firm release date until Korea's servers opened as their priority is launching it there first. When there is a launch ready client they will finalize the localization and launch it in the US.
Nice attempt at trolling though
This sounds to me like a temper tantrum because you can't play RIGHT NOW OMG!
Grow up.

does this mean the US version possibly won't have those horrible screams and moans after every attack, that seem to be synonymous with asian fighting games? I'm looking forward to every aspect of this game except that. I'm just hoping there's an option to disable those soudn effects (without disabling everythign else).
You're totally right. OMG you've opened my eyes.
Companies don't give a darn about the huge truckloads of money they would make by opening the game in the US/EU as well... I mean hey, everyone quits when they make a couple of bucks right? No sense making more money.
If this were truely the philosophy of executives then the entire world would be on welfare...
Vaporware is DukeNukem 3. A game that has been in headlines forever and never even started because the devs are too busy playing WoW. Vaporware is not a game that is taking its turn being released around the globe.
Obvious Doomsayer troll is obvious.
Edit: I didn't check my grammer before posting.

That's funny, I can pick up a phone and talk to a North American distributor that deals directly with NCSoft and they have it in their system as 2nd quarter 2009, estimate: May. Doesn't sound like Vaporware.

yes, its being localized for the western market (voice make overs and changing the quest, there also making a french and german version and that's why it is taking a little longer to get a release in the west).

that really get's me excited then if that's the case. Definitely worth the wait.
I love how all of these delusional Aion fanboys come flocking to my thread. You guys are becoming like Darkfall fanboys. *cringe* What I noticed immediately is that no one attacking me backed up their flames with factual information. Until I get a solid release date from a reliable source, then I still consider this to be U.S. Vaporware.
Just because something is promised to be released in an ambiguous time frame, doesn't mean it is set it in stone.
Maybe it's because your whole point isn't about facts to begin with?
You should actually take a good look at how ridiculous your argument is. "They haven't announced a release date, so it must be vaporware", do you even realise how silly that statement is? Oh, Bioware has not announced a release date for Star Wars: The old republic yet, so it must be vaporware. SOE has not announced release dates for The Agency and DC universe yet, I guess thats vaporware too. Blizzard has not announced release dates for Diablo 3 and Starcraft 2, you guessed it, obviously vaporware.
Also, nevermind the fact that NCsoft has a reliable history of releasing their big franchises in the US, the fact the game has been in playable form at western gaming conventions for quite some time now and the fact they are releasing more and more info about the game.
Nevermind all that, it's obviously vaporware because the developers haven't announced a release date yet besides 2009, because everybody knows every company announced a release date the moment they start a project.
I'd like to ask you to come back and apologize to us when you're proven wrong when the release date is announced, which is likely to be soon, but something tells me you won't have the guts to do that.
Why is it that people always post stupid shit about this game?
Vapourware = something with a release date that doesn't come out when that date rolls around, so far, they have not announced a date.
You clearly know nothing about Aion, and have no business posting about it.
Do some research, you'll see that their Community Manager is very active over at www.aionsource.com. Also, NCSoft isn't a small company, they have published many games, and generally when a company of that size says they are doing something, they do it.
This isn't Aventurine.

I wanted to but I couldn't resist pointing out the fallacy in your argument. You point to AionSource, which isn't even the OFFICIAL website. Now what does that tell you that the official website is basically worthless? At least with Blizzard, their official website is what people go to first to check out any info. on their games. Here, you have to run to a fansite, which has both constant updates and a forum, that the official website lacks.
Now do your math, it is as easy as 1+1=2. Poorly updated website (oh WOAW they released some stories for you to read! It's a good distraction for the unintelligent.) + nonexistent communication from reliable staff = vaporwared.
It's quite common for games to release earlier in one part of the world than another. Has there ever been a game that successfully released in one part of the world and announced that it would in another, but then delayed and delayed and delayed on the latter, and finally never released at all in the latter? I'm not aware of one; are you claiming that Aion will be the first? The standard examples of vaporware are games like Duke Nukem Forever or Darkfall that haven't yet released anywhere.
Well I hope to get my Collectors Edition that I pre-ordered on Amazon in May. At least according to their website.

Apparently your math isn't as well as you'd like to believe. The reason community managers are active at websites such as aion source is because NCsoft decided not to host forums of their own yet. The constant updates are actually newspost that are avaible on the official website..
Two Simple and Logical Reasons Why Aion is NOT Vaporware:
1) It has already been released in Asianland with a ton of positive feedback.
2) Aion's parent company is NCSoft, and I dunno about you but I don't think they've had many flops.
Also, an opinionated reason on my part, most people see Aion's graphical and design style and think of "Click to move, Lineage2 Clone, Bot Grinder, etc." but you'll be pleasantly surprised to find that there is a healthy mix of Asianstyle and NA Westernization.
It is a PvPvE game with WASD movement and quests thrown in with grinding.
Yes, this game will have grinding, its not going to be "Do 10 quests and gain a level a la WoW" however, the grinding will not be nearly as bad as oh.. ummm.. lets say Lineage 2? haha
I base all of this information on my good buddy who currently resides in Asianland, take it as you will.
Here are all the post made by the community managers over at Aionsource. www.aionsource.com/forum/devtrack.php
So you were saying you have not heard a peep from them ? They sure are active over there for being a U.S. Vaporware.
