the question you should be asking is ' will there be a game'?

2 weeks til launch, and there has been no testing of player houses ( a supposed feature) or of guilds, or of anythign really.  Only thing that you can do is run around and auto-attack goblin scouts (apparently 1 of a handful of mobs in the game).

Everything you will be told about player houses, ships, guilds etc  is simply the 'plans' the devs have stated.  None of that stuff has been tested yet, so probably won't be in the game.

As far as I know, there is no housing.

There are no pets in Darkfall, of course, as far as I know.

Ok did a little looking on there web page and found this

Will there be player owned houses?

Players will be able to set up houses of various sizes and design, ranging from small cottages to huge castles and citadels.

Can I have pets or NPC hirelings in Darkfall?

You can have pets and NPC hirelings in Darkfall, ranging from tamed

animals and monsters, to summoned skeletons, charmed animals and

monsters, hired NPC merchants, hired NPC guards, etc.

now this is a feature on there site right now, so with only 18 days til launch it must be a ingame feature .

tho this is cool, cause i thought there was no clasess

    What are the Prestige classes?

Prestige classes are special classes, like Paladin, Assassin, Gladiator,

Enchanter etc. and it?s an optional path that you may choose for your

character to follow. Picking a prestige class will in most cases give you a

few special skills, a few special spells, and you will have a certain status.

There are limitations, tradeoffs and restrictions playing a prestige class

character. Druids for example may never use metal armor after they are

initiated, and Paladins have to give half of their earnings to their church.

will be better if they offer 3rd person views but this is nice feature

For starters ........your looking in the wrong place for information about the game.

Its Darkfall man ....... best way to go about it is to just make stuff up, sound real sure about yourself, and hope it ends up in the game.  That's what everybody does.

Pffft ..... looking to Aventurine for answers, that's a good one.

Unfortunately, Darkfall's website is the last place to get any updated information. That will be taken as a bash by some, but hey, I doubt anyone can say I am making it up that the T-man can't even be bothered to keep a website updated. At least not with a straight face.

Besides, who the heck needs housing, it'll just get in the way of PeeVeePee.

They'll probly do it like VG and have certain zones or chunks or whatever their going to called open bits of land that seem to join together in DF for housing.

According to Grianne's (of "The Noob" comic) latest (and last) update...

    Personal Housing is out.

Cities can build houses (up to 5 is it?) to add to the clans bindstone limit.  But the houses are more like a city "upgrade" feature than what we think of as housing in a MMO.

To be fair to DarkFall... they could add it at a later date.  The problem is that the farther we get into the Beta Testing... the bigger that list grows of items "to be added at a later date".

So much for being "Feature Complete" and "Ready to Launch".  I wonder what it looked like before it was complete and ready?

The complete lack of an ACCURATE Website is one of the major points for the (proverbial) "trolls".  How can you trust the game when it doesn't even have a good Features Page?  At least a half way accurate one when you're 2 weeks from release.

I mean comon... I've made MMOs, and I was completely anal about changing that stupid Features page (eg. brought it up at EVERY MEETING) as we changed the features that will make release.  When they finally agreed to let me change it, it took all of about 3 minutes (and I know nothing about making websites).

This should be a simple text edit... and they can't be bothered with it.

Forum Diving is the worst way to get information to the general public... that's a fact.

Uhhhh ......... yep. You are absolutely correct.

Perhaps I should have slipped a "/Sarcasm" in there somewhere.

The complete and total lack of PR exhibited by Aventurine dumbfounds me. Outdated website in more than one or two areas, no interwebz reviews, no magazine articles, very few official statements ....... basically beta leaks is what we have. A couple weeks before the official release ...... it makes no sense.

Sadly I have actually given this a fair amount of thought. I have never made an MMO or done anything remotely close to marketing one. I have to resort to tried and true logic based on the available information when thinking about it. Depending on which side of the fence you rest, logical arguments can be made.

On the one side, something is very wrong with game. It actually screams it. Many of us on these boards have been down that road more than once. Tasos has stated they are intentionally trying to keep the hype down. Wtf is that ........ why? There it goes ....... screaming again ..... does the pre-order come with red flags?

On the other side ...... the tricky side.

    *puts on rose colored glasses

Aventurine ...... self proclaimed tight wads. Low budget, small team ..... typical indy company. Ok, I am perfectly aware of how far I'm stretching here, but, I've got my rose colored glasses on. So it's "ok." I'm sure I have read in the past that the game uses super servers created with alien technology. Something like 90 shards aranged in the shape of a pentagram to accomodate animal sacrifices so the world will be loadless and instanceless.

Better slip this in here ...... /sarcasm

Regardless, very expensive and costly ..... to ...... do....... whatever it is they do to set up servers.

Adventurine was expecting say, 50k people at start up .......10k per server (rolls eyes). Thats five of these super servers. They're good with that. We pay for five servers, do the digital download thing and we are golden. All of the sudden the 50k has turned into 200k+ at start up. Great! Right?

Not so great ....... all of the sudden our five servers arn't adequate. We need 20 servers to accomodate all these people. Additionally, we know this game will not be for everyone. How many of those 200k actually stick with the game? Soon we have low server population and are forced to do some server mergers to keep the PvP going strong. It seems we can get by with only five servers. What are we going to do .........15 alien technology servers on ebay.

No matter how skewed the logic is.  This is the only reason I can come up with on this side of the fence. Yeah ....... I know. Rose colored glasses, remember?

*carefully puts rose colored glasses back in their case

    Regardless, Tasos is a %&!#.

Do not believe the "to be added later" line from developers.  I love Blizzard and their games.  Saying that, player housing was a late drop from the features list of World of Warcraft and we were told it would added shortly after launch.  Over four years later and there is still no player housing in WoW.

Protected player housing in SWG was one of the reasons I loved that game.  Everyone was able to make their own Star Wars Museum.  You could easily lose a day of playing flying around and looking at different guild achievements via their museums.

It is sad that we won't see "real" player houses in DFO when it launches.

Fear not fanbois, we are not trolls, let's take off your tin foil hat and learn what VAPORWARE is:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaporware

"Vaporware is a term used to describe a software or hardware product that is announced by a developer well in advance of release, but which then fails to emerge after having well exceeded the period of development time that was initially claimed or would normally be expected for the development cycle of a similar product."

WOW devs never said player housing was something that would be in at launch.  The most they ever said is that it's something they would like to add someday.   Housing was like hero classes and battlegrounds before launch.  It's something they said the want to do at some point.   That is completely different than a game like Darkfall, which 2 weeks before launch STILL has a ton of 'features' listed on the website.   A dev comment about wanting to do something in the future, and a website listing something as a 'feature' are two different things.

The only feature that is going to make it into darkfall is an empty world and auto-attack.
