Something different to discuss/debate... "Aventurine Merges with [you choose] the company!"

Completely HYPOTHETICAL scenario... (just for the sake of talking about something different on these Darkfall forums perhaps)

For this hypothetical scenario, let's all close our eyes and imagine for a moment that yet another delay is announced soon by Tasos and it's delayed let's say until April 15th just to put a date on it.

Let's further pretend that on launch day in April, all of their who have pre-paid for the game log in to the server... and the server crashes hard. The game is down for a week while they work hard to get it back online. It comes up again, and the lag in the game is insanely horrid and essentially unplayable to all players with only 1,000 people logged in.

The forums on the Darkfall website become a living nightmare of screaming fans yelling bloody murder, for refunds, for the head of Tasos, etc.

Then after about a week's delay.. HUGE news is announced. Mega-Huge News.

Finally, almost everyone gains INSTANT respect for the Darkfall game and the potential it has now. Aventurine has been bought out by a MAJOR mmorpg player in the world. And best of all, this company PROMISES to the fans to keep the original dream of the game, the PvP, the loot, and to only make changes to streamline and polish the game BIGTIME with a whopping 100 million dollar investment into the game to get the game completely working and up in less then a year.

This new company also promises to keep Tasos promise of every single person WILL get a 14 day opportunity to play the completed game before deciding to make the purchase or not. 14 days free for every IP address, period.

Also, IMMEDIATELY after the merger (take-over) of Aventurine by the mega-mmo company, Tasos Flambouras is FIRED. All other developers of Aventurine are kept to help complete the game however.

Now it's your turn to vote... And also please EXPLAIN and add your input on this hypothetical scenario, no matter how ridiculous is is and how unrealistic it is, hehe. This is for fun more then it is to be taken seriously. :-)

THERE ARE TWO SEPARATE POLLS. THE 2nd POLL IS IN MY NEXT POST IN THIS THREAD.

(Also please tell us why you voted the way you voted, especially for poll question #1)

I vote Blizaard, given their financial power and their history that they wont release a sup-par game like others, their innovations, looking into detail etc...

Hate them if you like, but curently no other company that have release a mmo can compare with them. Didnt vote for bioware because they have yet to prove themselves in the mmo market...

And yes, im very happy if he got fire, for saying nonsense, promise that he couldnt keep, arrogant,  much  like MJ, they shouldnt be around...

Question one: I voted for other...and that other would be Valve / Steam. If there is any company out there that can pull-off a mmofps style game that would be epic in content, they are the one's that could do it.

Question two: Fire his azz because he treats the hardcore fans that have been around forever like shit.

I was going to say Mythic, but unfortunately they seem to be a sinking ship these days.

I voted Blizzard. They got money, staff and you don`t have to buy a new PC to play their game.

Content on fireing Tasos. I have to admitt the guy have balls. He is arrogant, confident and he has keept DF in the media in the dark times. He kept reminding us there was a mmo called Darkfall, but now his job is done.

I voted Blizz, cause they have the manpower / $$$ to make it happen, though I doubt they'd ever try to develop anything as revolutionary as what DF promises.  That's not a knock on Blizz btw, they know they're strengths and stick to them, which is why they are successful.  Innovative, prolly not, but rock solid and successful, yes.

I don''t really know when Humankind will die out but i''m guessing about 6 years before WOW.

I know this is all hypothetical but $300 million dollar investment seems absolutely ridiculous, how am I supposed to take this seriously with such a figure, if you pour that money into just about any MMO, you've probably already got a winner on your hands.

LOL, you're probably right about that. Heh. Okay, let's still make it an astronomical amount. $100 mil. OP changed for good reason, and thanks for your input. :-D

If a merge were to happen, which I doubt but you never know... ( I get the feeling that aventurine is backed by its country, much like Funcom is backed by theirs. ) It would be CCP. The makers of EVE. They merged with White Wolf and now have the World of Darkness (Vampire the maquerade..ect) franchise under their belt, as well as EVE obviously. They are located in freakin ICELAND. I dont think it would be bad if SOE took over either now that they are out from under the control of the movie execs.

That said, I think Aventurine will stay the way it is. They seem to keep things at home, and most likely backed by their country.

did someone really say blizzard and the word innovative in the same sentence ?  lol wow copied everything it has from previous games by the way not very innovative.    Im not a wow hater either guys :)  Wow is a history making and record breaking MMORPG and millions of people love it and blizzard has one hell of a cash cow on there hands in wow and it will be successful for many many years if not a decade or 2.

Onto the topic :)  Simply put SOE would be the best choice they have more money then any of the others to throw at it because of the sony name, but simply put SOE does not buy games to rebuild them and make them great they buy games like Vanguard to put it on there station access and run the game as the lowest upkeep cost possible just to make there station access look affordable.  (oh and im a 10 year player of EQ and still play it and love it )  so im not some SOE hater either .        The 2nd question well he should be fired.  Hes doing the same things Sigil did with Vanguard in making promises then lying about stuff then delaying it without an explanation then getting the hopes up of the thousands of people who follow the games development then just the lack of any real PR skills at all by him.  What would do Advent real justice is hiring a PR Firm to help there image because right now alot of people think worse things about them then they do about SOE or EA Mythic lol.

LOL the second poll is funny.

    I voted for SoE ^^

Given their history, I think they're very well qualified to... "take care of,"? a sandbox mmo.

I'd be overjoyed if this happened =3

And who are you to speak for the masses?

I can do that also, and can firmly and irrevocably state that all promises were kept.

ok fine, screw the hardcore fans that have been shit on by AV......you happy now toolbag.  lol and you wonder why peep's can't stand the DF community

Blizzard would change the game too much.

I would rather them find a crazy old man with lots of money that will fund them as long as Tasos agrees to pleasure him sexually in an undisclosed location every other month.

This way, he doesn't care how they spend his money, they make a brilliant game, and we all leave satisfied.

I had to pick "other company". None of the ones you listed have any desire to make anything other than themepark directed content games at this time and there are plenty of those around. It'd have to be someone willing and capable of keeping it sandbox and FFA PvP. I have nothing against most of those companies, it's just that the ones I do like aren't willing/able to do sandbox.

As for Tasos being fired, I chose content/don't care. I honestly don't care about the dude, but if he were to be fired under this specific scenario and the game didn't go to one of the companies you listed above I'd give the game a try. We don't all have to like everyone. From what I've seen of Tasos I don't like him. And I won't give a guy I don't like money for virtual entertainment.

He's put so much time, effort, and money into the game that you are pathetic for wanting him fired. He was asked to do the PR job, something he wasn't experienced at, so all mistakes he made wasn't his fault.

None of those companys support the kind of gameplay DF has. Since we have a bright example of EA spoiling games like UO back in the days, Voted other - CCP - best known for EVE Online, only company supporting FFA PvP and Sandbox gameplay in todays gameing industry.

As for the second poll don't care, as long as the game comes out and lives up to expactations.

Life is a game - Play it!...

Blizzard only have 1 mmo so far to show and its the combination of all the linear mmo out there, and they have do it so successfully...

So who say they cant combine the sandbox aspect of mmo and come up with another success?

Are they innovative? Perhaps no, but so does the rest of the mmo that comes out after it, and its been what? 5 years?

    Patheically pathetic ......

It's all too hypothetical to have a solid opinion on this. But the way I see things:

Fact 1: Aventurine is an 'new' / inexperienced player on the mmorpg market

Fact 2: They messed up majorly in the planning department; both in development and communication to the mmorpg community.

Fact 3: Above two facts don't necessarily mean that the game is bad / buggy / boring / fail when it finally releases.

Fact 4: It would be a good thing if Darkfall was a success for the whole mmo community. The more competition the more incentive for companies to improve their games.

In that sense it would be a shame if every indy company, bringing out their own title, gets swallowed up by a bigger fish. Monopolies are formed to control markets and thus, control the amount of choice and quality the community gets offered. I do hope Aventurine will make a profit on Darkfall and stay independent in order to grow out to become a full competitor in the genre.

SOE is like the Galactus to MMORPGS.

Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL!

I think I would rather see CCP take over Aventurine than other company.  They already have experience with giant server clusters like Darkfall uses and with running an open world world game.  Also they would be more likely to utilise the Darkfall engine to produce other games that I would actually want  to play in the future, rather than mindless junk.

If Stardock took over Aventurine I would also consider it to be a good thing.  They have no mmorpg experience but are flushed with cash and are in the business of making exceptionally high quality games on very small budgets (IGN pc game of year 2008 on sub 1m budget).  They are one the few devs that concentrate almost exclusive on making sure their games provide a good gameplay experience over everything else.

I do think it's perfectly possible for Aventurine to have a decent launch on their own though, it's not 2001 anymore and they have a huge amount of other peoples erroneous launches as examples to guide them on what not to do.

I would say Bethesda. The Morrowind series is truly epic and immersive. If they were to come onboard with Aventurine I think they would be likely to maintain the intended mechanics and gameplay (if Darkfall truly has the intended potential... I have no idea). I don't believe that money solves everything if it comes from the wrong source but capital from creative minds with vision and respect for their players can do that. If Bethesda were to toss in I'd expect an incredible game with an incredible feel to it.
