I think the major sticking point now is the RvR vs. PvP mechanic.
I personally make a distinction between pure RvR (faction) games and PvP games where you can conceivably attack anyone, anytime. I enjoy both when done correctly.
"Ganker's paradise" - Join a CORP and fly right and you will rarely be ganked.

I'm not geeking it up in a guild.  I'm not squadding up in wwiionline, or joining the High Command.  Dittos for Planetside.  I don't need my signature down somewhere delcaring, "You sir are a dork."

So you are trying to play EVE solo? Is that what all your assumptions about the game are based on? Your experiences playing the game solo? If that is the case then I can understand... back when I played solo I ended up quitting. I came back when I stumbled across a good CORP I could join and it has been a completely different game experience since then.

You can solo in EVE, but you will be at a disadvantage in many ways.

Yes I was trying to play EVE solo, and joining a mining corporation was to be a side-job, an alternative way to spend time.  But what happens like any other game is that if you are not online when players from your corporation are online then your sh*t out of luck.  Your stuck in 1/50th of the systems which are 0.8 and above to mine in, otherwise you get ganked.  And all those PVP FREE systems are completely out of asteroids to mine, they're dry.  I mean geez, last time I played each asteroid belt had more CANS then asteroids in it, it was absurd.

    Basically here is EVE ONLINE:

-MINING.  First of all mining is boring in Eve Online.  It's not like source collection in pre-CU SWG, was much better, and mining in Jumpgate was actually fun too.  Although it never happened to me, I hear there are ORE thieves too, so it should take a player about 2 months of training and grinding to get a good mining  ship, or mining ship + transporter + CANS going.

-PVE combat or missions, practicing, or just whatever.  Just like mining you are stuck in 1/50th of the systems which have really weak NPC's, if you go out of the PVP FREE zones you get ganked (exactly the same thing on a WOW PVP server).

-TRANSPORT SHIP.  Again it takes about 2 months to skill up to get a good transport ship, and you have to MINE to get it first.  Or you can geek it up in a guild  to get a transport ship.  But dont' forget it's not yours, you owe some geek on a computer somewhere for that rather expensive transport ship.  And since 2,000 other players have the same idea as you, don't expect to find many buy lows and sell highs, you'll make faster money mine-grinding.

-GEEKING IT UP IN A GUILD, different strokes for different folks I suppose.  I prefer to be the loner type, oh don't expect this game to be anything like Privateer or anything, you'll get ganked.  Think PVP zerg.

-PVP.  Prepare to pay, but not play, for at least 6 months and up before you PVP.  But if you want to make that money yourself  you got to mine-grind first which is about 2-4 additional months, so in total about 10 months before you get to PVP.

I would have been happy to just be involved in the economy, be a producer, but all of the factories were being cyber-squatted, every single one, every last single one, there are no buy lows and sell highs, and for some reason the more valuable minerals took more cargo space go figure.

-MINERALS.  This is comical.  Say you got ORE A which costs 1 ISK and takes up 10 cargo space.  The more valuable ORE B costs 2 ISK and takes up 20 cargo space.   So transporting more valuable ore gains you exactly the same profit, pretty funny huh.  The volume the ORE takes up scales up almost linearly with it's value.  It's like the game was designed around linear grinding, there is no niche in the market for you to take advantage of if you watch it like a hawk.  Eve Online market complexity is an ILLUSION.  Pre-SWG was much much better.  Much better.  Down with SOE.

I hadn't played for a year+ and my cheap battleship was in a former Corporation station deep in 0.0 space, so I wanted to bring it back into PVP FREE  space.  I was gate-camped about 20 jumps into the trip.  Nobody said anything, I was just webbed and ganked.  No roleplaying pirates, "ARG!  Give us your cargo,"  no "Your in our Corporation ______ Space, this is your first warning," I was just ganked.  So after I lost my cheap battleship I got into my cruiser and wanted to practice PvE and I was promptly ganked in 0.7 space.  So I cancelled 1 day after I re-subscribed.  It's just another dumb WOW game, except your on a WOW PVP server and you lose stuff when ganked.

you're correct, eve is a horrible, mean, cruel place.

so, quit and give me your stuff, cuz i'm not even sure what you're qqing about in this post.  did someone tell you stuff about eve and you're posting that?  cuz your post + reality, don't seem to make any sense.

    edit:  2 things

1 eve was here a long time before wow.  so it's not just like wow anything.  wow might be similar to eve (cuz eve has all these space dragons and space elves and such...)

2 if you're going to QQ about "safe" space -- what in the world are you going on about .8?  if you can't fly in and around (safely) in .5-.7 then you are definitely doing something WRONG.  you've either jacked your security status with concord, or your standings are way low with empire(s), or you're at war, or you don't understand anything about this game.

and honestly, the rest of your post makes as little sense.  are you sure you're playing eve?

I always find it funny when a Soloist tries out Eve and gets all pissed when they figure out the game is 100% solo unfriendly.

Seriously the guy knows nothing about Eve at all. He considers people in corps "geeks" wtf? the whole game is about corps working toward a common goal and surviving while working toward this goal.

I have no clue what this guy was talking about when he said only .8 and up was safe. And how the hell was he ganked in .7? did he agress someone? did he get killed like a newb in a mission?

Nothing he says makes anysense ,tbh it sounds like hes just taking from other peoples bitch posts and making them his own. I wouldn't be suprised if this guy only played a trial or two.

you can solo in eve.  you just can't act like it's wow and solo.

traders are a prime example of soloing in eve.  you can easily solo lvl 4 and below missions in eve, just might want to avoid the missions in below .5

honestly, anything in high sec, can be soloed, unless you're stupid, or ignorant of game mechanics.  i've an alt that does the occasional freighter run, i don't do those afk, and i've never seen a problem of "oh they suicide ganked me".

now, is eve INTENDED to be played solo?  no.

i do believe you cheat yourself out of a large portion of the GOOD content if you choose to solo.  but, having said that, yes, if you're not stupid, lazy, or ignorant, and you're not afraid to read and learn -- you can solo in eve.

could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?

Can we please get back on topic?

I don't think CCP will do a rollback besides its announced ingame news. Plus, many internet websites have caught onto the news and reported it as well.

BoB just got ganked; something they had coming to them for a long time now

The only way this get's rolled back is if the account used to disassemble BoB turns out to have been hacked. Last I heard, BoB was under the impression the owner of that account was away on military training. Has anyone heard the end of that part of the story?

Game is most probably over for BoB as a name. For BoB as an organization it's business as usual. PL, Goons and SoT has not managed to take sov or kick BoB and GBC out of any system so far. There's been several large fleet battles after the incident and BoB's enemies haven't achieved anything whatsoever so far. In fact the alliance I'm with - which is in the GBC - haven't had a better killratio in years.

There's red targets everywhere. It's like EVE-nirvana out there. BoB should disband more often if you ask me.

Just a point of fact: this isn't true. Yes some merc outfits will try. But many don't. I've been in 2 different merc alliances and 3 different merc corporations. Not all mercs do this. In fact some make a point of NOT doing it.

Well that fellow "haagorth" was in local in F-T yesterday and was acting like the rest of the goons in Local chat, so the short anwser is no. Looks like he was either a well emplaced mole in BoB or a disgruntled director. So far BoB has not added anything to the possibility that the account was hacked and it looks more and more likely each day that the 1st two mentioned scenarios is what happened.

I think the only decision made was when BoB dissolved the alliance and came/come winning out of it, goon's mere pawns in this play.

    1) This is why I don't play EVE.  I already have a low opinion of the human species, and this isn't doing anything to improve it.

    2) Do you people understand the definition of "epic," or are you using it because someone else used it?

    3) I hope everyone involved is happy with the way things turned out, because EVE is supposed to be a GAME--or it was at one time.  It's now graduated to the status of sociological experiment, and the early results aren't promising.

Arguing with me will not make you right.

if it weren't for the fact of sov1, 25+ dreads (according to dian), and lots of iskies, non-cap ships, fuel, etc... then i might agree.

    1) why is this why you don't play eve?  this is not the first time this tactic has been used, AND if i'm not mistaken, bob has used this tactic against others in the past.  combine the cold war with viet nam and world wars I and II and that's what you have going on, on any given day, in new eden.  that IS the game.

    2) 2 definitions of epic:

1-heroic; majestic; impressively great: the epic events of the war.

2-of unusually great size or extent: a crime wave of epic proportions.

yes, epic is being used correctly.  bob likes to portray themselves as invincible and the owners of the game.  see DBP's "we control your game from here out, you will never do anything unless we allow it" speeches.  bob USED to control (via renting to pets) vast swathes of space.  bob has been beat back into tiny corners for a while now, hiding in npc stations even.   yes, this is epic, as it (also) continues to destroy the bob's fanboys delusions.

    3) if you don't play; then, why is this traumatic for you?  maybe this IS how the game is played?  this is, essentially, FFA PVP.  part of that is forum pvp.  there's been many a battle that was completely lost by one side, but they cowboyed up to the forums and made people believe they'd won a battle, or "we didn't want that system anyways".

Well, if it is to good to be true, then it may not be true.

One person, trusted enough, to cancel the alliance. One person. No chaos, no nothing, just a few days later important corps are back invited. That despite what one could assume that they would have lack of trust after being "betrayed". This in the world of EVE where one state "Trust no one", this person managed to get hold of alot of things, still being a person of trust.

BoB did a pretty good reset and they have managed to get a pretty good start. Oddly enough.

25+ dreads, lots of ISK... Yeah, how long is a string, how much do  it differ now in the goldcoffins of BoB/KenZoku.

Time will tell. But EVE is as much politics and strategic moves as anything else. I wrote came/come for a reason. Anyway my bets are on that this was intentional from the set go, initiated by BoB.

Hi EVE players, never player the game myself as I dont have the time to play several games and I've been led around by my less than adventurous friends, as such I'm currently playing none. However I've always looked over the fence to see the green grass of EVE. And judging from this thread (as much as I can understand) the grass is indeed greener on EVE.

I'm sensible enough to seperate the emotional from the factual, and I can see that EVE has managed to do to so many of you (all of you I think) something that very few MMOs have so far managed (please tell me other MMOs have) ... but I hope we all play to experience.... You have been involved in epic times; some of you will suffer, others will reap rewards, this means that some will scream "no fair" while others will laugh "serves you right". Think of all the times that the stock market has crashed... or companies have flopped and folks have lost their jobs. The same things happen, except as it 'only a game' I would hope that no body is thinking about jumping, instead stick in there, after every fall there are always opportunities.

However, many of you have highlighted that this may be a flaw in the game mechanics and judging by your descriptions it would appear that the mistake made by the alliance was to permit an individual to have the ability to crash the whole thing. And I assume that this is the mechanics flaw you speak off. In real-life, after a collapse that affected the economy of organisations capable of having influence over legislation (eg a country), new systems and procedures would be introduced in order to prevent such events from occuring again. I assume that an Alliance has no such ability, I assume that its the game system that dictates who can crash the alliance and there's nothing you can do about it?? Well potentially EVE-Devs (as reps of the galactic economy) can apply a patch but as this is an ongoing struggle I imagine 'BOB2' would want to leave this exploit open in order to have their revenge. I assume this is something the community, or at least Corps and Alliances should have a say in, the DEVs should be asking what 'legislation' needs to be introduced to make Alliances 'firmer', if that's what the Alliances want. And to be fair any organisation witnessing the fall of BOB would get their lawyers in start changing rules. And no, god cant roll-back time... its happened.

Of course, lets not forget  that these are Epic times, and if we solve all of lifes problems you may end up with more stability but less adventure... and why would we play a game with no adventure?

i wondered about that myself.  but, the defector won't be getting roles in the swarm, and he gave, literally, trillions of isk worth of goodies PLUS the "new bob" is now only sov1... they've lost a LOT of defense in delve.

i just don't see that being a good move on the part of bob.  you're going to lull someone into a false sense of security by giving them lots of dreads plus tons of fuel/mods/ships AND reset your sov to 1?

bob didn't want that name/ticker anyways... that's why they petitioned to have two corps closed, so they could get the name and ticker?  every time bob has lost something, they've always said "we didn't want X anyway".  but, their stated goal was/is to control all of nullsec?  well, you have to want SOMETHING if you're going to control all of new eden.  amirite?

regardless, i could see them doing the sov reset to get the new name, cuz a ton of fail is associated with bob and this new alliance would be a phoenix... but i just don't see handing over the items they handed over as part of a greater bob plan.

who knows though... stupider things have happened in new eden.

Of course, lets not forget  that these are Epic times, and if we solve all of lifes problems you may end up with more stability but less adventure... and why would we play a game with no adventure?

it's happened before though, just not to the band of brothers (otherwise known as the band of developers).  it was always working as intended before; perhaps it takes something like this happening to the dev buddies to get alliances re-looked at.

    again, who knows.

I think that someone got hold of a director level Login and dispanded the Alliance (ie kicked all the Corps out).

That MP3 seems to suggest Goons were involved in some way.

It sounds from replies here that BoB are back together?  Is this the case or gone for good now?

    Thanks.

Yeah, a great many things happen more than once before something is done about it, and I'm sure that when they finaly get done 'friends' in high places would be involved. But does it need fixing? Not an issue of should it of been fixed before latest event 'cos its done now, should it be fixed at all?

The last time i saw a comment by CCP involuveing them and BOB they admitted that they had given some help to BOB and that EVE was there game and they would run it how ever they wanted to.

there shouldn't be any type of rollback for former-bob.

however, the alliance system itself DOES need looking into.  as others have said -- a character with roles, must have the roles stripped and then there is still a 24 hour waiting period before said character can be expunged from the corp.  but, a single character is capable of dissolving an alliance instantly?

i mean, it's great that they have sovereignty now. but again, sov 4 can be lost THAT fast?  as could be seen by posts i'd made regarding bob and their ops (which metalhead QQ'd about, and even after supposedly blocking me, whined for someone to delete), there is a ton  of coordination, logisticis, manpower/hours behind a lot of these operations.  to think that, during the middle of one of these operations, an alliance could simply be torn apart... that's pretty crazy.

so yeah, the alliance system needs looking into.

Even though BOB wasnt the nicest corp and they probably did every exploit that ever existed in EVE. I'm pretty sad to see them go.

And seeing them go like that is just sad, Goons are a mix of the worst kind of people you can find on the internets, and its not surprising that they had to act in such a cowardly way in order to take bob down. That the war is as much inside the game as it is composed of forum attacks, account/ forums hacking and of stuff like jsut what happened is what prevents me from getting involved in this game which is the only "true" mmo out there.

I'm not a no life that sits in front of his computer all day long, I'm an intern that sits in front of his computer all day long.

i'd feel bad for bob, if bob hadn't done this same crap (and lots of other things) to other alliances.  so, everything you're saying about the people involved in doing this to BOB... you can also say about the people in BOB.

like i've said -- karma is a bitch.  there's pretty much nothing someone could do to bob (or the new bob) that THEY didn't already do to others in the past.  yeah, they (bob) are that dirty.

BoB isn't gone, they reformed into Kenzoku, the name BoB is gone yes, but it will live on in history.

I am glad they reformed so quickly and regained control, even to they have to rebuild to sov 4

BoB got disbanded by a flaw in the alliance mechanics : a director from an executor corp can NOT disband an alliance, only the CEO can do that, however a director CAN kick all corps out until no corps are left in the alliance and the alliance disbands nonetheless. It is clear that this is a flaw and not intended, but it has also been used in the past, so making an exception now, for BoB, and do a roll back, would not be fair either.

BoB was able to quickly regain control by another flaw in the system, reclaiming towers and getting sov directly after downtime, while you normally need 7 days for a new tower ( correct me if I am wrong )

All in all, Kenzoku ( BoB ) came out alive ( for now ), and the men on the street are starting to look at Kenzoku as the underdog, now that basically all Alliances are banding together against BoB ( Northern Coalition + Southern Coalition ), with the only exception of AAA. ( again correct me if I am wrong )

So once I join the 0.0 game, I won't join the bandwagon of the North and South, cause they are too strong and if they win, 0.0 will be controlled by 1 powerblock.

honestly, i don't think you have to worry about that.  IF dragonballz gets decimated; then, the other groups will just fall to fighting each other.  or maybe the north will move back to their happy "let's fight for fun'" nap with each other; but the south will surely go to trying to destroy each other.
