I like Atlantica Online but I left it at level 25

And for a stupid reason.

I spent more time opening boxes and equiping my characters than actually playing the game.

It drove me fucking nutz.

Oh well, it's still a good game imo.

Heh, that's actually one reason I didn't play after the beta.

However, being bored I started playing again earlier this month, and the number of boxes you get goes down the more you level up.  (At least equipment boxes. Still have to do a lot of clicking for book boxes)

Opening boxes is one of my pet peeves in the game. What i do is i sell most of them in the marketplace and just buy the necessary equips.

... Also, you could donate them to new players .

Actually what is annoying me is the forced socialism. Constantly getting high level gifts sent to me by I think Game Masters or whatever they are called in this game, posing as players. Then they bug you all the time, need help, free exp, etc. Man just shut up and leave me alone.  I don't need help with the game, I don't want a mentor, I don't want your items, thankyou good bye!

Its not gm that send equipment, but higher lvl players, it counts towards a title and they also get xp or stamina back when they do so.

This game is def not for those that play by themselves. Being part of a guild and a nations is the way to go. You'll be missing on a lot of the game if you dont.

no, those aren't GMs posing as players. those are actual players.

and don't think they are doing it just to be friendly, they get Stamina and XP for it(1 Stamina and 20% of the value of the item/money as XP for all their mercs i think). and whoever your Mentor is gets 200k gold whenever you hit level 30.

and one more thing you need to know about the Gifts....the Gift-Giving is random. The higher-level player gives the gift, and it goes to a random player who is under level 30.  so it isn't like they are singling you out to annoy. they don't have any control over who they give their gift to.

furthermore, once you get to level 30, all that stuff goes, and gets replaced by Help Requests, which give you Stamina and 1k XP Books if you answer them.

Actually that is exactly why i keep playing the game. It alwas give you something to do. You could try exploring the game even more maybe you just haven't tried out the other features of the game yet.

I agree with this...I am sure you will get tired of getting into battles, and this is one reason just to take away your attention from grinding. If you got tired of equipping, then try crafting, or betting, or going to free leagues, fishing, etc...just tons of things to do inside the game, not just one.

I kinda liked how they did the loot system with the boxes.....I thought it was a good idea to combine like items to make one better item.....The problem is that later on you dont hardly get any boxes, especially the frozen ones......Also the ehchant stones get rarer as you go along.......As for palyers giving you stuff alot of those itms are given for quests.....It gives you a list of several players under level 30 and you simply choose one of those players......I thought AO did alot of unique things to have players interact with each other....If they hadnt done any of these things then everyone would just solo and it would basically be a single player game.

have you gone deeper into the game besides opening the boxes? there are a lot more features.

In the game we need to understand first the game, for us leveling can challenge us...That's why we need to motivate  ourselves in leveling our characters. At first, of course it's easy to level up but as your level get higher it's getting harder also..

i feel what you feel Santabla, it makes me feel boring everytime i try to open many boxes and i also spent more time on it than leveling my character and after i open it, i just go to market and try to sell those things to make golds...

  • next_gennext_gen Member Posts: 11

its ok to open those boxes, as long as they give you some enchant stone or some good stuud to use, not some kind a gabage..but some of them are needed for crafting and the rest is for selling in the market...

  • manipulatorsmanipulators Member Posts: 5

i agree with all of you guys because if you you come to think of it,,, opening boxes is not boring its how you you play the game if you to gain exp more then go for it keep on opening the boxes after that you can throw it or sell it on the market for gold..

  • take_3take_3 Member Posts: 6

yes man thats right i also love what they did to looting system, but man if your getting tired of opening boxes try to craft or participate on a guild war or enchant theres so many things to do here in atlantica...

hi there guys! im at level 20 and i am also busy in equipping my main char and mercenaries also... its really a big personal problem for me. hahah! anyway, i hope i could get through this soon!

  • PyrostasisPyrostasis Member UncommonPosts: 2,293

Not quite sure what all you guys have issues with... the boxes are the best part of the game. You get to constantly upgrade your gear piece by piece... every one of those boxes is a small part of you getting better. Enjoy them!

  • trancejeremytrancejeremy Member UncommonPosts: 1,222

Well, I think that's part of the problem. You almost feel obligated to open the boxes, but you just get inundated with them early on (Spirit stuff at least).  I had literally 100s.  At 10 seconds for opening each box, it could take a while. It also doesn't help that until you hit 50th level, you don't have a lot of inventory room (at 25, like the OP, he had what, 6 characters?

Of course, I eventually learned about that gamber guy where you can swap (hopefully) boxes for those of a higher level.  And the problem definitely clears up when you hit the 50s at least, you rarely get boxes (and you really need to buy gear off the market).

It seems a bit of a minor reason to quit playing. Especially if it becomes less of a problem later on.

  • impaktoimpakto Member Posts: 314

    yeah its a stupid reason...

also why would you spend more time opening boxes than playing when you're at a low level..

I am not saying the way AO doing is bad, but it does not necessarily need to be forced like that, in fact the best interaction in MMORPG, imo, is you need a team to explore, have the adventure feeling (not like the instance farming in WoW, no adventure feel at all, but adventure feeling is irrelevant in turn based MMO like AO), and the afraid of dead.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The thing i don't like most in AO is the random disturbution of stats :/

    MMO played (paid):
    AION
    DragonRaja
    Dungeons & Dragons Online
    Lineage
    Lineage 2
    Tibia
    Ultima Online
    Warhammer Online
    World of Warcraft

    MMO tried:
    Atlantica Online
    Darkfall
    Dead Frontier
    Dungeon Runners
    EverQuest
    Lord of the Rings Online
    Monster Hunter Frontier Online
    Ragnarok Online
    Requiem
    Runes of Magic
    Runescape
    The 4th Coming

and some other Chinese/Korean or beta MMOs

ahaha i agree with you!! it will cost of you're time instead of you're focus is to level you're mercs and main char..if you have gold just buy only needed armours and weapons for you're mercs and main character. opening boxes is a waist of time...there so many things to do inside atlantica online..."one month in Atlantica is only one day in real world"
