    850% compressed video huh?

So the game should look 8.5 times better when what I have seen?

    ..Really?

haha Darkfall is the only game in existence in which videos of actual gameplay are in no way representative of actual gameplay. Don't trust any available information- not pictures, not stories, and certainly not actual videos of gameplay. Specially if it leaves a negative impression.

Sorry, I'm not trying to pull this discussion away from the numerous funny spelling and grammar errors in this topic, I'm just curious.

Seems like that info would be important to know prior to preordering the game.  I certainly wouldn't preorder without knowing that sort of basic info first.

The date of the Darkfall European commercial release has been pushed back to February 25th, 2009. A pre-order will be made available mid-February. The pre-orders will get priority for early access to the game. The pre-orders will also get priority for the game launch if we have to go to a staged release. We’ll go to a staged release only in the case we have more demand than we can handle properly, and until we can upgrade our capacity. The pre-orders are necessary so that we can have some measure of the demand.

Well is abit strange, they are starting pre orders i guess by next friday, buy i thought they were using these pre orders to gauge the overall need for servers , but why would they only have a 4-6 day time period too sale pre orders before the 25th launch ? I think they are going to not put out hard copies, and go digital download.. that is scary cause all those are pay in full , no returns for unpoened boxes. if they get 50k-100k full pre they will launch and then set up a staged release with 1 server of 10k and who knons how long til they add more..

Or take off to the Cayman islands with a cool 5 million in their pockets (plus any left over investor money) and have the last laugh at all the drooling obsequious  sycophantic fawnbois that threw their money away.

I think they are worried about long term use of thier game. They always thought they would not get a large amount of players. I doubt they have more than 1 or 2 servers planned at release. Servers cost money, and they are using all thier cash to try and get ready for launch.

It would be a big waste of money and a big hassle to have more servers than they need. Many players will try and leave this game. With the unexpected hype, they could get 100's of thousands wanting to try the game with a trial, then leave. This would overwhelm there servers and cause a major crash. I would think a long term goal would be around 100k base players. That would be both EU and NA players.

So, with the preorders, they can allow these players in early, based on the number they get. If they get way more preorders. Then they can announce the stagered release and go from there.

Yeah the lengths people go to to support this game is pretty crazy. I really want the game to be good but so far from watching the available video footage I havent seen anything that fills me with any confidence about it. To be honest it doesnt look quite as bad as some people make out but I really cant see it being a great success. The only reason people are going nuts about it is because there arent any other games like it. For many people Darkfall really is their last hope until something else some other games release later in the year. If it flops then for a lot of people its back to hopping from one shitty PvE thempark game to another and roaming around on this website.

I am finding it very hard to log in to any of the thempark games now. I am close to ending all my accounts and go back to single player rpg's till Darkfall or something like it comes out. I would play EVE, but I don't like the setting.

The game does look like ass, there is no denying that. If it didn't have full-loot I doubt it would have many followers at all. The melee combat looks boring as hell and it's extremely apparent that there is no skill involved in it.

Either that or they must get more cash fast, pre orders get in some so they can stay afloat another month until they actually have released the game. I it possible that they are getting low on cash now.

But I want a trial for the game, I would only by a MMO untried if I either like what the devs done before or if I love the IP (I will get World of darkness online by pre order) so I wait until I have the chanse to try it out, I am not sure this is my type of game and I am not impressed by the beta leak videos but if the game is really fun I will still play it...

You know in AoC beta the game looked just terrible and there was a lot of grumbling going on that it wasn't ready for release. Then a week before the release they push a patch out to beta and the whole thing looked 10 times better. It became apparent that the beta testers weren't really beta testing as much as we were being used to try stuff out on and most of real beta testing must have been going on internally.

The point being you can't tell from beta really how the game is going to be cause beta testers aren't necessarily seeing the real deal.

Seeing as how AoC turned out, its not such a good anecdote is it?

  • AshrikAshrik Member Posts: 381

Perhaps, seeing as how AoC did immediately after release- it's the perfect anecdote DHayes.

If you have content, it's probably a good idea to let it be tested.

Devs have a weird view of beta tests these days. Let's have a massive client change with thousands of improperly tested features suddenly turned on and send it to retail!

Yeah, Funcom showed us why an NDA is kept up till release.

Companies that are confident that their game is good will drop an NDA around a month before launch. When they are not confident they will hold it till the game ships. Funcom knew their game wasnt ready for primetime so they kept the NDA up and hoped it would secure them enough time to collect preorder numbers and polishing of the starter game. The plan was to get enough buzz created about how awesome the early levels were to get enough people interested in the game. They also figured that gamers wouldnt blow through the early content before they could patch in the parts that were lacking or missing all together.

When testers caught on to what was happening, we were silenced on the forums with either bannings or personal attacks from the devs which caused die hard fanboys to join in. In the end we watched as the game launched and the fanboys tried as hard as they could to save the game by dancing around the subject with lines of "700k people disagree with you" or "its in and working (talking about sieges and city building) just they forgot to turn on tier 3 city building abilities..."

There are 3 types of people in the world.
1.) Those who make things happen
2.) Those who watch things happen
3.) And those who wonder "What the %#*& just happened?!"

The problem im having is im a newcomer trying to figure out if this game is worth buying. The "trolls" tell about how this game sucks and then I get this crap from the fanboys

If you had of said "This game plays great". Not even I can say "This game looks great".

Don't you know Imbant is Tasos' father's brother's nephew's cousin's former roommate? He loves the game. He wasn't giving it a rating of 6/10, he was rating the "troll" OP.

    --------------------------------------
A human and an Elf get captured by Skaven. The rat-men are getting ready to shoot the first hostage with Dwarf-made guns when he yells, "Earthquake!" The naturally nervous Skaven run and hide from the imaginary threat. He escapes. The Skaven regroup and bring out the Elf. Being very smart, the Elf has figured out what to do. When the Skaven get ready to shoot, the Elf, in order to scare them, yells, "Fire!"

I saw a beta leaked video and i gotta say it didnt look all that great. I hope it gots some really great gameplay so i wont have to mind the shitty spell effects and ugly characters. Dont get offended, I still plan on playin the game, just giving my opion. Im not gettin my hopes up though, I advise that to all the fans too.

What I dont understand, is if you dont like the game, keep the hell away from it then!  I honestly dont give a damn about Darkfall, I may try it, I may not.  The point is, if you think its going to suck so bad, why are you so interested in it to troll the forums?  Go back to whatever little game it is you play, and QQ over there where people care about your opinions and let the people who intend on having a good time with whatever game they choose have that good time.
