some questions about eq2

I have been playing the stress test for WoW recently, and frankly i cant say that im that impressed.First, character customization sucks horribly, can only edit skin color, hair style and color and little else.

Second, questing sucks at lower levels at least(havent gotten that high). It sometimes takes half an hour to complete a quest that should take 5.This is because there are about 10000 other people hunting the same mobs with slow spawn rates. There are no instanced dungeons or mission maps(that i have seen so far) so i get very impatient waiting around for a stupid boss to spawn(especially when there are 300 other ppl waiting and every time somebody else hits it first and can claim the kill).

Third, i'm not even sure i know the story, if there is one. From playing so far, i can only really gather that the point is to PvP agains the other side.Thats me, sorry if just didnt listen and missed something about the story.

Fourth, the maturity lvl in this game is horrible. At least twice when i am logged on i will see a comment about a "mom" joke. While i still do this in real life with friends(yea im kinda imature sometimes, so what, wanna fight about it? :P") i hate it in games. It really gets annoying being new to a game and asking "how do i do this" and hearing"ask your mom" or "your mom sure knew how last night".

So far, the only reason i would consider playing WoW is that i like the forgotten realms setting and it is kind of like that. And i have experienced not lag what so ever. The environment i like very much, although i have to say the graphics are not the best, but i dont think they are meant to be the best, they are supposed to have a certain look.

onto eq2

How is the customization? How is questing? How is crafting? Are the guilds useful at all(in CoH they were totally useless)? Is it buggy and laggy? Is it overly easy or overly hard to lvl(i dont want to have to be a power gamer to have fun, but also dont want to lvl to max in a week.Is there a story that compells you and makes it so you cant sit through classes or work?Is teaming up easy?Is the UI either easy to use, or easy to learn? And any other comments you have to say.

I also want to know if you think i can run it on 512 RAM(i am looking to upgrade to maybe 1 gig) and on a nvidia Go FX5200?

Please comment fairly and not just say this game is the best(unless it is).

to add to what i said, i thought up a few more questions.

I have been looking over the eq2 site but am still unsure of some stuff.

Are there any type of politics in eq2?Any PvP?(not a huge issue but i might be interested, always imagined having a huge battle with other ppl), i know WoW offers this, but it is not a selling point of me.What is the max lvl?Are the dungeons and quests your own, or do you share a few mobs with a billion others like in WoW?And in general, what is the main goal or story for the game?

first of all i just wanted to let you know, WoW is not forgotten realms. the max lv at this point is 50 (but they have the ability to make it up to 200). there is no pvp, but that may come in time. there is politics in a form, guilds involve a lot of politics (like who is the best, highest lvls, has the best items) i think quite a few of the quests have instanced dungeons, some is shared but not all (havent heard anyone say anything about waiting for a quest spawn). i dont think there really is a *main* goal, you just do quests, get better items, join a guild, get friends and go out and do bigger quests, raids, etc with them, craft. you pretty much choose how you want to play.

he was actually making a comparison of WoW to EQ2 and seeing what people have to say why EQ2 is better, the bottom part and the second message are both questions about EQ2 so i think we are staying on topic, since he asked about EQ2 in an EQ2 forum and i answered his Q's about it.

LOL you asked a lot i try see if i can answer as many as possible.

Dungeons- there are your standard dungeons which everyone can enter. If it gets too crowded usually a second instance of it opens up for people to go to.Same with many zones. There are also special zones/dungeons you can only enter via quests and then you take your group or raid party into it.No other person but your group and raid party will be in it.Usually requires only 1 person in group to have the key.

PvP- nope none at all. There might be plans for it later but not high on their agenda

    Customization- one word EXCELLENT.enuff said

Questing- this are very numerous and so many npc have quests. You can pick up something from the ground and it leads to a quest. You can read a inscription on a statue and it leads to a quest. The voice over adds a very nice touch to it too. Some quests are easy ,some harder ,some soloable some need group.Rare spawn for quest mob very rarely take more then 1 hour maximum to find(at least i never waited that long and rarely camped)

Crafting-With the patching done it has become quite useful and the exp gained has been increased.Craftable items are sought after so there is usually good buisness for  most of the crafting classes.Macroing or AFK crafting is not possible.

Guilds- there is guild points which can be used to purchase say a horse. Some encounters require a raid force which is often a guild.

Bugs/lag-Has more bugs then WoW but  not that many. Most major bugs have been sorted.Lag was bad in some large zones but have been sorted now.You must always customize your setting to what your computer can handle because it has such a high setting as maximum very very few people can handle it.And none can handle it comfortably at highest setting in crowded combat. So if you have a system that can only handle  the medium setting but push it to highest setting you will lag badly.Need to keep adjusting till you got what you are comfortable with.

Levelling- posted in another thread i think the rate of levelling is fine .Its not slow neither is it fast

Story-There is a background story. But if you mean one general overall story that evolves like most if not all mmorpg its seriously lacking IMHO.

Grouping- There is group and solo mobs and  it is displaced. Most named with good loot are grouped mob.Finding geoup is simple there is a group finding option.6 to a group clasically the setup was 2 tanks,2 healers,2 dmg dealers or others. With recent patchs people are leaning to a 2 tanks,1 healer,1 buffer,2 dmg dealers combo.Usually finding a group is not hard and if in trouble finding one just start your own.I perfer to start my own each time so i can get in what i want for a particular place i am hunting.Warning there is group exp debt meaning if one guy in group u all share 1/6th of his debt so watch who you group. If you invite and this dude wanders off to solo(loads of SWG players seems to think grouping meant going off to do their own stuff) drop him ASAP.

UI- seems easy enough for me  but i rarely have much complains about most UI so my view here might not be best.

Mob spawn-very fast and the world is quite detailed so you will never be short of something to bash thats for sure.Even named when killed are not on a very high respawn time so you get another whack on them soon if you missed out.

System- 512RAM back in august was not playable.I am not sure how good it is now but i can confirm that 768RAM is now very playable. On forum folks with 512 say its much better now but they have to reboot every 1-2 hours so basically i guess 512 is playable but more RAM will certainly help a lot.As both my systems are above this i cannot give a full comment on this and i am quoting 3rd party if someone else can comment that be lovely.

FX5200- again hard to comment. It will play but you will have to keep the setting low to be able to play comfortably. There is a frequent poster on this forum that said she uses FX5200 and has no problems so guess it will work just need low setting.

If i missed anything ask away.

ive got a question to add:

i hate zoning in a game but i can tolerate "smart" zoning. for example in swg the zones were set up as the different worlds of the game so you dont really notice the zoing. but from what i have heard EQ2 will have zoning within cities and all over the map. so how bad is the zoing?

    Playing: Saga of Ryzom
Beta/retired: Star Wars Galaxies, Tibia, lineage 2, darkages, conquer, runescape, raganarok, knight online, Eternal lands
hope to play: face of mankind, everquest 2

Lol thanks for answering all of that.Yea it was alot but after going over the eq2 website i still had many questions image

So far eq2 is looking pretty good with what people have posted. If anything, customization and being able to group easily is a major selling point to me.I dont know about others but in WoW i asked for a group and was either ignored or told to "group with your mom, hehehehe".Lol

And yea, i know this is a eq2 post but i was telling my experience in WoW so that people who played eq2 could make a comparison.  Thanks for the posts everybody

The zoning is mainly in the major cities (Queynos or Freeport).  You will zone quite a bit in those areas, but it doesnt take long to do so.  The larger areas are usually made up of two zones.

Like it was already stated the most zoning you will do is inside the cities.  This is because each section of the city is broken up with themes.  You have the elves in one area, Halflings in another etc.

Lots and lots of bugs were squashed and many more will be taken care of prior to release.  Questing in EQ isn't like WoW if your asked to go kill x mob you can either ask if anyone else is doing the quest and group up and kill the mob/s once and you or your entire group will get credit so there is no competition to get to a certain mob first.  I know this is a big problem in WoW.

There is a quite exstensive story to EQ the land of Norrath has some very nice lore if your into it.  There are books coming out or are out now about the land of Norrath.

Not met many rude people in my 3 months plus in EQ2 beta. Most are very nice and if you are in a group and say oh i have a hard quest mob to kill most groups will gladly assist you.

And yes there are a lot of zones but zoning time is very small thankfully .
