Americans are responsible for the recession too...

ThrakkThrakk Member Posts: 1,226

Two points

1.) Americans are also responsible for the recession.

(for example - My friend's dad, who hates liberals, went out and bought a Toyota - a Japanese car. uhuh, I wonder if he invests in international companies as well)

2.) Our stimulus package, although not enough money to stop the recession, will prevent it from becoming worse - which may be seen as a failure to people since they will say things like  "we're still a recession - that means the stimulus failed".  But perhaps the stimulus works - it shortens the recession - we will never know what would happen had we not gone through with a stimulus package - and we had to do something right? At least we are doing something.

The thing that sucks the most is that Obama inherits an economy that is crappy (because of things everyone has done - all american people - republicans and democrats) - and people will continue to tear America apart because of their partisanship. I hate seeing conservatives bitching at liberals and liberals bitching at conservatives. Not only does it solve nothing, but it tears America apart. Wooo! As if there is only 2 answers out there for every question - consevative or liberal - and one has to be right for every instance - stupid and annoying ideology behind that

I think the stimulus would have been better spent giving every American, even the babies $2500.  It would cost the same and it would instantly jumpstart the economy as it most certainly would be spent.  Or better yet, $7000 to every working american, and $4500 to every adult who gets work in a limited time and $2500 to the people that hire them.

Americans are responsible for the crisis. You're China's bitch now.

What no one wants to understand in the US is that a recession is actually needed. That people need to make less money and jobs need to be cut. America only understands stimulus packages which temporarely create jobs for people who will just get fired again a month later. Every stimulus package is another chance of your dollar completely tanking. When that happens jobs will be the least of your worries, getting food will be.

Naw......China, Japan, and Korea still have to duke it out to see who'se bitch we really are.

Getting food will never be a worry here, we ship to too damn many foreign countries as it is. Africa, Asia, South and Central America will just have to starve. Nothing new there.......

As to the dollar tanking, last I checked everybodies currency was just worthless scraps of colored paper that's printed by governments with nothing of substance to back them up.

    Even China, Japan, and Korea......

    Think your right.

China to stick with US bonds

China will continue to buy US Treasury bonds even though it knows the dollar will depreciate because such investments remain its “only option” in a perilous world, a senior Chinese banking regulator said on Wednesday.

Are you aware that the average Toyota has less than half of the domestic content than the average Ford or GM vehicle?
"GM, Ford and Chrysler manufactured over 75 percent of all vehicles built in the U.S. last year. And their average domestic content is 82 percent. Toyota's is 40 percent (Lexus is 3 percent)."
and only 10% of the total cost of an automobile is in final assembly which is what these foreign plants do. Additionally, the logistics cost saved by doing their final assembly in close proximity to their market more than off-set's the higher labor cost.

Additionally, the good high paying technical and professional jobs all remain, as an example with Toyota, in Japan. Profits go to corporate coffers (in Japan) as well.
So, don't take the bait on these foreign auto makers being "more American".

the bill oughta pay off the debts of individuals. but if trickle down pay offs work by paying off bank debts - than so be it. it's better than nothing and hopefully most of the stimulus money will work its way back into our economy. this is still better than continuing a downward spiral which would have debts escalating anyways.

Plenty of Toyotas are built right here which employ Americans.  Parts are accessories are built here, which also employ Americans.  Some of it is from the outside, but every car manufacturer gets parts from everywhere.    Making it harder on Toyota WILL eliminate American jobs and doesn't help anyone.   Who's going to hire off-work Toyota people?  GM, FORD?  They can't keep who they have employed.  Think before posting.

the difference is that Ford, GM, and Chrysler have an average of 75% domestic parts while Toyota is lower than 50% (by how much I don't know - apparently it was 40% a few years ago)

"1 Foreign-owned companies accounted for 88 of the 150 largest parts suppliers in North American original equipment sales in 2006, compared with only 41 of the 150 largest in 1994, according to an annual list that appears in the industry publication Automotive News."

Additionally, the good high paying technical and professional jobs all remain, as an example with Toyota, in Japan. Profits go to corporate coffers (in Japan) as well.

The world relies on debt.  If every debt was paid off in the world, we'd all be dirt broke.

And in regards to that post.. I have no idea what you're getting at?

    How immature.

Whatever your political inclination is, you surely cannot blame him for the recession.

You should remember that before him the US had 8 years of Republican government, people seems to think Obama brought the problems with him straight from Kenia............which I find quite funny.

Obama, like Bush is trying to sort out one of the biggest crisis in capitalism history, and unlike what people think this crisis hasn't been generated by political mismanagement, but by Capitalism itself.

It is the financial market and our lifestyle based on debts which is the cause of this mess, politics are marginal on the causes, but have the duty to savage the economy, which if untreated, might collapse all together.

Therefore if you are a Rep, you are going to disagree with Obama stimulus, if you are a Dem you probably disagreed with Bush bailout.

Fact is both had to do something, It might not work, but there aren't many options around.

None of the governments either enjoied or is enjoying splashing out cash in this manner, but the alternative is even more grim.

Yeah and do you know that the workers at all forgien owned factories get crap compared to the ones run by GM and Ford? The union only applies to American companies and is what is killing them. I think 10% on all profit of a car(pretty sure its higher) goes to paying RETIRED employs health benefits. They can't fire anyone and they pay out the ass for all sorts of benefits that they can't take away. The forgien companies don't have to go through that shit. Cut down the unions contorl and bam they have money and can start making more jobs(because they dont want to hire anymore union workers then needed)

Oh please. The international recession-depression is largely to blame on the banks and the respective government failure to see a ponzi scheme. PERIOD.
