Upgraded from trial, my characters are gone now...

My wife and I just finished our 10 day trials. We went out and bought the game, used our codes to activate our subs. When we load into the game, our characters from the trial don't come up. We are on the same server that we played on during the trial.

My wife signed into the game under her trial option in the Launcher screen and found her characters. She has deleted them in fear of not being able to use the names under her paid sub.

What is the deal with this? Other games when you do their trial and then sub to the game your characters that you played during your trial are waiting for you to continue them. Have we missed something here? I will be quite upset if my character names are lost forever because they are already taken from my trial characters. After spending the past 2 days with an error message every step of the way trying to get this game to work, my only light at the end of the tunnel is an empty character selection screen. Please help!

    It sounds like you didn't upgrade your trial accounts but instead made new accounts.  If you are using an account name to sign in on your subscription account that is different than your trial account name then that is what you did.

    Whether you can now merge those accounts, i don't know.  It may depend on how nice you are when you talk to the customer service people.

    I remember a lot of people doing that when the game came out. They created new accounts instead of upgrading their beta accounts. Turbine was very helpful in straightening that out for people. If you contact them and tell them what happened I'm sure they will fix it for you.

    When I put in my product key I was told something like this:

     

    You cannot add this product key while you have a trial account.  You must make a new sub...

     

    So I clicked the only option I could, which was "make a new sub to this account"

     

    This is kind of misleading I think.  However I was able to sign back in under my trial account and delete my characters so I can save their names.  I think I beat the time for the trial by just a few hours. whew!

    sigh.

    You know, instead of deleting your characters you could have contacted Turbine support, explained what happened and had them just change your trial to a regular subscription.

    I had already deleted them before I read any of the replies here.  However, my highest character was only level 10, so I didn't loose much.

    ah ok then you're fine. I just hated the idea that you put all that time in only to delete them.

    That sucks...

    But, if your highest was only lv 10, it's alright, you can get there in one sitting.
