News, no English speaking servers based in Europe.

SOE have advertised for a significant period of time that there will be English speaking servers based in Europe. Now, just a few days before launch and after many Europeans have pre-ordered the game, we are now informed on the official forums that English speaking servers are based in USA only!

This means for Europeans:

1. We will now be subjected to high pings - not the 30 to 40ms we might have been expecting but try 250 to 600ms, plus more spikes

2 Most other players will be 5-8 hours behind you. So you can now look forward to running through underpopulated zones; struggling to find other people to group with; guilds raiding at 3-6 AM your time; all GM events happening when you're snuggly tucked up in bed etc.

3. Maintenance taking place during USA off-peak time, which means Euro peak time. Expect to find yourself not able to log in during evenings due to down-time. If the server breaks during the day, don't expect it to get fixed until hours later after the North American techs get out of their beds.

ie You will not get the quality gaming experience you have been expecting for the last months - and they announce this just days before launch. I have been looking forward to playing this game for a long while - not anymore.

A Stupid decision - the Euro's are going nuts about this on the official boards - SOE will lose many customers to WOW because of this. Their loss.

    This is REAL BAD

I would have lived 50 kilometers from the servers

Once again they show costumers are just a necessary evil to suck money from, and their will to have happy costumers that like the experience... is nonexistant. I have a hard time coming up with any more ways they can lower the quality of this game without shipping broken discs.

Only game I wait for right now: Imperator.
    Go Mythic!

    Here is the official announcement:

As we prepare for the launch of EverQuest II next week, I wanted to make our UK players aware of our plans regarding server selection.

Instead of separating players by geographical location, our servers will indicate which language the game runs in on that server. Rather than designating a UK server, our UK subscribers will play alongside other subscribers on their choice of English-language servers. We will also have French-language and German-language servers available for subscribers who choose to play in those languages when the game launches in Europe.

We feel this approach will best serve to build a strong community for all our players. Similarly, we will no longer have separate UK message boards, but instead UK players will participate in the English-language forums along with other speakers of the language.

Thanks for helping create a solid foundation for the EverQuest II community. We look forward to seeing you in game next week!

Well it is not 100% clear to me. You could interprete that there will be a UK server but they wont be labeled as UK, just a regular English server. Dunno about the location though.

i played eq on a US server for 3 years, been is US, australian and euro guilds on that server and i never had any real troubles, my ping was fine, the population was fine, patches were during weekdays so wow...you might miss an evening, grouping was even easier because you know more people from previous groups, more raidcontent was available because the US people arent playing. And with instancing population is even less important.

Also the post about the server was really unclear and can be explained in 2 ways, id wait for a more detailed explenation.

its not really a big deal. if u played FFXI u know what im talking about. servers based in japan and the only atvantage the japanese players had over western players is that they could hit mobs .2 seconds faster. which only sucked for Notorious Monster camping.

although i cant really speak for dial-up. i havent used dial up for an mmo since EQ1 back in 1998.

If the server is labelled as english will they have words spelt in english or american? For example color/colour and armor/armour.

  • jayheld90jayheld90 Member UncommonPosts: 1,726
hehehe, i dont think it makes a difference, it was made in america. so, you can exxpect it to be in "american" as you call it,  and im sure you would have no problems telling the difference.

Well though i prefer a europe server but

1)ping.I get better ping on the emerald(east coast ) server then on euro(werner) in planetside. As long as you have broadband its not a problem

2)maintance.really ticked me off in SWG.But hopefully after the first month of constant downtime there will be only the patches .Since unlike SWG which is made up of planets that are basically huge huge zones with loads of data that needs daily reboots ,EQ2 is made of smaller zones and did not in beta require any rebooting .They may reboot certain zones from time to time but not a biggie really since there be other places to explore.

3)mingling.I don't suffer  from what many people seems to suffer.Europeans must play with europeans  or USA with USA as WoW is forcing us to do.I like to mingle. There will be an unoffical UK server anyhow as there is always which will have majority of the players playing GMT like happened in SWG on release.

4)bad experience with euro servers.Remember the AB server?even after 1 year it was so unstable, crashed almost daily was a total nightmare.

5)faster patches. No translation needed  if DAoC patches are anything to go by.

There is of course quite a few problems that need sorting like GM support but SoE will just have to provide covering for those hours.

We are not talking just UK and Ireland as the message puts it.We are talking non German and French that prefer english to this other languages.Countries like sweden, holland, russia  etc ..So its a big number there .

I know it would not make any difference was just making light of the subject, however if they where spelt the american way surely it should be labelled american server not english server.

Being an englishmen who lives in america it did actually cause me a few problems at first writing software, a program i was writing would not work due to my spelling of color, took me ages to figure out the problem, lol.

In my DAoC guild about 1/4 of the members were from Germany, Austrailia, and the British Isles. My SWG guild was at 3/4 British. We all played happily on American servers with no problems. Now if SOE was pulling a stunt like Blizzard is doing with WoW ad not releasing in Europe for months after the US release I could see a problem.

Edit I have played games for so long with the Brits that I tend to use the English Spelling for armour..errr armor.

    I miss DAoC

Yep at least lets be thankful we are getting EQ2 at same time as USA rather then wait what 3 months for WoWimage

Have a question since i wasnt able to get into Beta do  the EU servers NPC's speak french/german or is it just the players ?such as UO's asian servers the npcs all spoke english if so whould UK players be better to just take over a French server ?  image

  • herculeshercules Member UncommonPosts: 4,925

Actually i don't know since i played on the US based server all thru beta but i think the french server npc do indeed speak french.

But all worries are over moogard has confirmed they will indeed be a server labelled "uk preferred" on launch which will have apparently GM support in GMT.

Now problems he has not mentioned is

1)patch times. Will it be on GMT for this server or with the rest.

2)why only one server when its known that  such a server will attract ireland, most scandavian countries ,lots of eastern european countries(in short all european countries that prefer english to German or french),possibly as far as australia and of course North Americans that just happen to wander in.

One server seems pretty small to me.

now some people bring up the problem of playing on the servers when everyone is asleep...

I just don't find that true at all. For example:

If every resident in England will have to play on the US servers....then wont that mean that even though its like 3 AM in the states, England wont have any problem finding groups and people....simply due to the fact that everyone from England will be playing around that time?

I know it must suck to have to play on a US server and not one closer. I wouldn't be too happy myself. But, you def. wont be the only one on the servers if you log on.

People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.

Should be okay, in EQ I have played on US Based servers from the UK, np with Lag.

Plus if everyone in Europe is playing at odd hours, servers wont be unpopulated late at night.

Now playing: VG (after a long break from MMORPGS)
Played for more than a month: Darkfall online, Vanguard SOH, Everquest, Horizons, WoW, SWG, Everquest II, Eve

    Check this link:

So basically they have doublecrossed Euro players twice:

1st - No English servers in Europe

    2nd - Diferent release dates.

I had already pre-ordered the game from Ubisoft. Im trying to cancel the order atm, already have contact my Visa Card Bank cancelling it and explainning why, since it violates what was pre agreed. The shipment will not be on 8th nor 9th November.

WOW its not a solution either, since they banned Euro players from their Open beta as you all know.

Just go and play Anarchy Online. Solide game, but its Euro based and at least gives Euro and US player, like players of the rest of the world equal treatment.

    Foff SOE !

EU players are not banned from the open beta, atleast not from the stress test. There was no problem at all for me to enter it and I will continue to play on the open-beta::::19::

I see it that way too. Non UK server, but english-language server in europe.
Anyway i always played inside american servers in EQ and SWG, and i never noticed more lag or playerless areas than in european ones.
