I've been using this old ass alienware laptop forever now and last week the damn thing blew up on me.
Considering the thing was five years old and still played my favorite games I figure I could pay less for a new Mid size gaming laptop and still play my favorite games.
I've seen these midsize laptops for 1500 and under (im not paying 4 grand again for a laptop, wife would kill me).
So heres the deal, i need a midsize (13+ inch screen) gaming laptop that can play these games on medium quality.
Eve Online, Half-Life2/CS:S + Mods, Mass Effect, Fallout3 and probably the next bioware sp rpg.
The system could have 2 gigs of ram with xp or 4 gigs with Vista, i would like it to be Duo core and a videocard atleast up to snuff with a Nvidia 8600 512mb.
IN the price range of 800-1300 it would be better if it was under 1300 lol.
Remember a Mid size laptop not one of those 17 inch monsters I need this to be hidden on the side of my work computer. 13-15 inch Display is fine.
Any help would be great before I start going through 100 websites and stores.

I also travel alot with my job so its nice to have a laptop to play games.
Also when im at my Work office I only play on my lunch hour and to keep attention off myself I like a smaller laptop. (crowds suck)
Try not to be such a ass dude.

Lovely the way you assume he has a job that demands his constant attention.
There are plenty of jobs involving being "on call" where one must be nearby and prepared to perform an act, but does not necessarily have any other duties to perform until their assitance is required.
Regardless, I recently purchased this laptop. I can attest to both the fact that it's the best deal you're going to find right now and its quality.
For comparison, this laptop costs $1,300 more, and the only tangible difference is the $2500 laptop has a better processor and a lower resolution screen.
The gateway I linked will run anything out right now on medium to high settings.
I highly recommend getting it while it's still $1199.

man what a rip your a dumbass sorry to say but you are for buying that you could get a better one for half that price hell even in sweden they have a similar one for 900
I hate to tell you, but, $900 is not half of $1200. Additionally, I live in the United States, not Sweden. I price hunted quite a bit, and

is simply the best deal around right now.
You would be hard-pressed to find a laptop with those quality parts for anything less.

This LT should play games on medium atleast and has a small screen like you want.

Can customize to a bigger screen and up to 4 gigs for around 850 bucks
no operating system though

Looking forward to: Nothing

@Tykero: thanks for linking that laptop. That is an amazing deal for what you get and i am actually seriously considering buying it, although i wouldnt have much use for one yet, i get the feeling i would be saving money just by buying that one now, then one later in the year.

You're welcome. I've been using it for school, and it's a great machine and a fantastic deal. I've been trying to get the word out about it.

i just bought the gateway 7805-u fx from best buy. best gaming laptop for the dollar probably right now. word of advice, check the display model because i am one of the few that actually got the 1900 x 1200 resolution. most now are like 1400 x 900 but the display was the only one they had left with the high resolution.
I believe the 7805u has the lower resolution, and the 7801u has 1920x1200.

I believe the 7805u has the lower resolution, and the 7801u has 1920x1200.
Actually, they are identical, the 7805u is Best Buy exclusive. The first batch of both model numbers shipped with the higher rez screen, but all the newer ones for some reason have the lower rez, which is the actual spec version. Somebody screwed up and probably no longer works there for that first batch.
So you can get lucky with the display model sometimes, and still get the better screen, but they are selling off the shelves so fast I doubt you're going to find the better screen otherwise. I bought one last night myself, and the guy said there was only one available when I was getting it, but there were 2 people in line behind me at the display table wanting it too, there was almost a brawl, until the guy went back and found 3 more units on the pallet from the truck that had delivered that day. It's too bad they don't make comission, that guy woulda had a great night. I was standing in line waiting to pay for mine, when the same sales guy walked up with another customer buying the fourth one!
And for the record, the display model was missing a key so I didn't even check. :-(
P.S. It only cost 1149, and I saw some people on different forums saying they got it on sale for 1049. Great price for what you get... the processor is only a P8400, but you get 4 gigs of DDR3 ram, a 320 gig 7200 RPM, and a 1 gig discrete GeFrce 9800m GTS. That's NOT shared ram, that's dedicated on the card.
You know, not everybody can be good enough to get hired at McDonald's, or work on a construction gang. Some of us have to manage clubs and bars, or work on call in IT jobs where you perform reactive type work, instead of the proactive type such as flipping burgers or swinging a pickaxe at tough ground digging a ditch. Have some consideration for us before you post such harsh opinions.
well all the ones coming out now are the lower resolution, i am typing on my 7805-u right now and i have mine set at 1920 x1200 but i bought the display model and even got 10% off too. the ones they had in the back for sale were all the lower resolution though that is why i said make sure to check the display model cause those are probably the first batch that came in. also actually check the screen because the sticker maybe a misprint on the computer like mine is. but wehn you pull up the resolution it will show you, they even opened up a couple in the back and turned them on and they were the lower resolution so i definitely got really lucky.
I think thats a DIY laptop, not really my thing to be honest.

Things have seemed to have gotten better with Ibuypower, but beware, in the past I've seen some horror stories from people who bought from them, not it seems most people are happy.

I'm willing to bet it was just a mixup. The Best Buy version has the listed lower resolution in the spec on their website, but the version on Newegg lists the high resolution on the spec (and still has that resolution on the units they're selling) so I'm willing to bet that it's intended that way in that case, and the mixup was just on the Best Buy units.
