Atlantica Online -- most overrated mediocre game ever?

Wow. Talk about being a sucker. I want my week of play time back. This game would be mediocre before even factoring in how terrible it must be at end game with the BS stamina system. If you want multiple characters to control, play Sword of the new world/GE. If you want turn-based, play a purely turn based game instead.  The only thing this game does better than any other is waste your life away with menial garbage and minutia like leveling new mercs over and over again.

Sorry the game wasnt for you but there are alot worse out there......Also it didnt cost you anything unless you bought stuff from the cash shop so I dont see why the complaining.......As for the stamina system, its only a problem if you do nothing but combat for like 10 hours a day.......Atlantica is a game that yo uactually have to learn how to play....It isnt Warcraft where everything is done for you.......You actually have to pay attention and learn how to use stamina....The problem is that so many gamers only know how to play games one way: fighting in combat non stop......Theres alot mmore to the game than combat but if you dont like it then you move on to the next game.

you should've played and regretted sooner, when they were giving out $20 (or was it 50) for a lv 50 character.

i'm still waiting for mine since last year.

I think it goes to show how wanted something fresh is to the MMO genre. Not that great of a game that is very popular mostly because its not the same stuff over and over again.

Then again maybe I am wrong but I enjoyed not being X character picking what kind of melee/magic/arrow/etc attack to use.

Sent me an email if you want me to mail you some pizza rolls.

No, the game is stupid easy. It's just that they don't give you any information on anything. It's like walking into calculus class and your professor saying "you guys know algebra and trig, so you guys can just go ahead and reproduce and learn all of calculus and I'll test you in a month". The fan sites are horrible, with half of the advice/info being poor, the other half being completely bogus. Everything about the game is half assed. And if you think you need 10 hours to burn through 50 stamina after level 50, you've probably never even played atlantica. I can go through 50 stamina in an hour.

Exactly the reason why after lvl 50 you should get a full group and fight harder monsters. If you grind on mobs who are lower than you, yeah, you'll drain your stamina fast. You'll recover stamina every few fights, so if you actually fight mobs way over your lvl you won't drain your stamina even nearly fast enough to cut it down in a few hours. Besides of that you can just participate in the free league, win a few fights and you've got plenty of stamina to go for another few hours. I've gotten to lvl 80 twice without running out of stamina more than 5 times total, while playing for entire days in the weekends.

True the game doesn't give full information about what to do, but with some common sense and you're auto-move it's all pretty straight forward. I'd actually say the game is way too lineair than too complicated.

Perhaps it's just you, not the game...  (and don't get me wrong, I'm not really a big fan of the game)

Atlantica is quite far from being the worst game ever.  It's a lot better than Runescape, for example.

But most overrated?  In this site, probably, though that's largely a function of it being rated so high.  And it being rated so high is probably because Ndoors is rigging the ratings with those zillions of accounts that make a few posts, vote Atlantica high and everything else low, and leave.

Huh? We are talking about BASIC information here. It's like sitting down and playing chess against someone who has never played chess before, and instead of telling them what the legal moves are for each piece, you slap their hand and call them a cheater every move because they haven't been provided the basic rules. Take will, for instance, I looked all over for a list of everything that takes will, how much it costs, and info like whether or not the regen rate changes as you level up. I found dicksquat. The game is full of annoying crap like that.

  • XebecXebec Member Posts: 63

Can't really blame the game for having people discover stuff like that on their own. If you'd have teleported twice on different levels, you should have noticed the change of will required. Though if you do actually want everything chewed out for you, read the forums. Newbie section + search function = all the information you will ever need.

It's not that big an effort, is it?

I was also fairly harsh on this game when I first tried it. I was pissed off. I fell for the hype and although it didn't cost me anything, I felt it was a complete waste of time to DL and install.Perhaps I was expecting too much based on the hype here.

So, after being assured that I was way too harsh on the game, I gave it a fair shot.

It's not the worst game ever... but it certainly isn't any fun in my opinion.

There must be a lot of folks who like it though, so I wish it well :)

    Just not for me.

What your stats do should NOT be learned information.   It should have well defined and detailed descriptions.  Not providing info about how the game works is a big sign that the developer doesn't have a clue either.  Then again, its F2P.  Seriously what do people expect=)   Be happy you can even log in.

Or how about how incredibly stupid it is to have "random bonus stats" ? Who was the moron who came up with that? Or how about certain skills not coming out of commodity boxes? I guess I'm supposed to open up thousands of boxes until I "know" that certain skills will never come out of them? The game is fine for people who just want to waste their time on nothing useful, but not people who want to play a game intelligently/skillfully.

  • BottisBottis Member Posts: 2

Hmm commodity boxes, didnt take me long to notice that if i had used up all skillpoints for a character i wouldn't get that book. Also, if you have to open more than 50 boxes and still not figure out that something like beast summon isn't showing up then i guess you are a bit to slow to play intelligently.

This is a new game, new games usually have pretty poor info for a while. Same thing happened for Warhammer Online, i tried to find info and there was almost none. In all honesty there is quite a bit of info in the game. Take monster info for instance, it shows exactly what drops, where the mob that drops it is and roughly what drop rate it is. It shows the relative power of the mob and it's special abilities.

As far as stats go, there isnt really enough of them to be confusing. Def and Vit makes you live longer. Str and Dex makes you do more dmg, as usual dex is a ranged stat and str is a melee stat. Finally Int makes you better at magic. If you want more detail than that then maybe you should do what the people who actually get the info that you want do. Take samples of thousands of fights with different setups and figure out how the math behind it works because honestly, the sweet little spreadsheets and general guidelines that exist for games like WoW don't just happen.

So if you have an issue with the game, try to find a decent guild, try TALKING to them and have them explain things that confuse you. Also, the quests in this game actually introduce you to alot of whats around, if you read the quest dialog.

Either way, go play something else, i enjoy the game. I guess we won't meet

I guess you failed basic stats, then, not to mention life. 9 characters with an average of 3 skills. So you think that if you have failed to get the skill with with only a 2/54 chance of getting it in 50 tries is evidence enough to tell you "it won't ever happen". That's like flipping of a coin twice and if you guessed  wrong both times calling "heads" you are convinced it has tails on both sides.  That's why you are the "slow" moron who likes stupid games, mister ndoors bot.

Playing online games will challenge you always, and as you level up it becomes difficult, especially when you reach level 50 above, that challenge you being a player, and sooner you can be powerful... you have to face some difficulties in the game. if you can't? as like other gamers said your just being a loser and Weak!

Well I seriously doubt you got past level 10 but if you did you would know that at 50 there are about 20 different ways to increase your stamina.......I met several players just like you in game and they all acted the same......Its like "dude I cant go and kill mobs every second of the day??? This is the lamest game ever blah blah blah"........Like many of us have said this game isnt for everyone and it isnt a wow clone...... IF you try to play it like all the other mainstream games your gonna end up with posts like yours complaining about stamina and other minor things...... We're sorry you dont like the game but its obvious it isnt for you so just move on.

People have their own opinions. If you think Atlantica Online does not work out for you and it wasted your time for one week then, why do you have the time to make a post here in the forums. I don't believe this post, I play Atlantica Online and I enjoy the game more compared other games I played. You can promote Sword of the new world/GE on the games' thread.

Sounds like the OP needs to play FPS games if hes crying about skill based play. I rather enjoy atlantica, and best part is, it doesnt cost me a thing unlike the rest of the P2P trash out there ala WoW, WAR ..the list goes on. To the OP: go nerd rage somewhere else or find a game that has an easy for you to understand button.

    Playing: Not much actively.
Games played: to many to list, been playing MMO's since 2001

    Mediocre?

After playing Atlantica Online for a long period of time the i never had any problems with the stamina system since it resets after a period of time.

Again people really have problems with the battles system. The turn based element is really something different from the other hack-and-slash mmropgs out there...

IMO this game is not garbage but very fun to play with...

I love how people here are defending the fact that the game is poorly put together because "you should figure it out for yourself". I could guess that int is for spellcasters but its pretty retarded to not know the exact effect of it. Anyone, even the people that play this game, are deluded if they think that the OP is wrong to say this doesn't deserve the most rated game on mmorpg.com.

I just went over level 50, with 7 mercs 50+ and a Beast Trainer catching up at 35+.  The last few nights I havn't even spent fighting, I'm just running around opening chests and auto-crafting until I can get enought money to gear up my troops.

I can see that this game isn't for everyone but I'm definitely one of the crazies that enjoy it.
