3324 players online worldwide at 5:29 pm UST -5. My beloved Mordred server has 14 players. 14...in the entire huge world. Wonder if they can even find each other? vs. 45434 players online world wide in EVE at this same time.
Actually, it's pretty easy finding people. Those 14people are doign 1 of 3 things:
1) Powerleveling new toons, there are 9 spots they could be
2) Pvping, 3 spots they could be
3) Farming phat lewts, 22 places they could be
Considering options 1 and 2 easier to accomplish, it's not that hard. Finding farmers is the most enjoyable though.
And yes, my sadness has overwhelmed me with how far Daoc has fallen !

Is there a way to find out the faction population per server? And which classic / normal server is the most active with players? This would probably help out new players like myself decipher which server to join and faction to help out.
The servers are clustered. This means that all 3 classic servers are tied together and share most zones like RvR zone, the main land, SI area, all except the housing area I think. Same goes with all the normal servers.
Go to The Camelot Herald and scroll down a bit and you'll see a big list of servers and it will show you which are clustered and the population beside it as well.
No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-
