I hope they do a character whipe, but at the same time don't. If they do do one, all of the Closed Beta Testers will be happy and the newbie zones won't be as flooded. But at the same time, if they don't do a whipe, the PvP servers will be swamped with level 60's griefing left and right.

    It is quite the conundrum

I hope they wipe. Every release day you usually have to deal with newbie zones packed(except with instaned zones). I'd rather "suffer" the first week or so, rather than play the whole game 1) knowing there are level 60 characters. 2) Being griefed by them on PvP servers, and 3) Hearing the level 60 characters brag about how uber they are.

The newbie zones will still be camped either way, so it won't make much of a difference.

One of the ideas the Blizzard Dev's are kicking around is letting the characters remain after release. From what I heard, they want an economy already in place. But like it's been mentioned, they're not sure and could wipe. I think they're seeing if OB lets in any exploiters/bots (i.e. Lineage 2), but if not and everything runs smoothly, they can let us keep our characters. I think the reason why they're "undesided" is so that they don't have anything saying on way or the other for people to get upset about.

Yea cause some of those testers are a pretty sensitive lot. The forums are down (for me at least atm) but i got a glance at some of the posts that have already sprung up. Just say that some are already complaining about the patch, even though the servers arent even up yet lol. To me, the durability loss on death is a good thing. They reduced durability decay to offset this so seems like a fair trade. The regeant thing well....guess im making a couple of high level alts just in case i need to port/buff a group of friends/guild mates/whatever.

They have always said there would be a character wipe prior to retail.

Is there new information where they say they are now "undecided?"

Yeah, for awhile Blizzard has been saying that the decision hasn't been made yet. I would try to find one of the links but since they took down the old forums I probably wouldn't be able to find it. The Moderators on the forums answered several times to this question saying the same thing. I hope they decide to wipe though.

Think it would be neat if they wiped the PVP servers and left the normal servers alone.  I personally don't see the problem with leaving the normal server characters as is.  I can see the issue with leaving the characters on the PVP servers alone.  I think that would lead to massive pking by the higher levels on the lower levels.  It'll happen anyway eventually, but this would keep it controllable for the first week.

This is a great point. Yes, it will happen eventually. The point is, it won't happen immediately, and it would be a good PR move.

People are saying the closed beta testers won't be happy. So friggin what? A more pretentious bunch of snobs could not be found anywhere else on the planet! (Apologies to the one or two of them that are actually OK people).

There are many, many reasons to wipe. I posted in another topic that most of the "cool" names are taken on a lot of the servers. I don't believe they have ever wiped the servers, even after the stress beta. Blizzard does need to address this. If accounts are disabled, they should be deleted. I hope they aren't keeping them so they do some buy-back-in policy next year (come back to WoW, get your old account, only $9.99 for the first 3 months, etc).

Another one is that we are all on an even slate. I will vomit if I run across some L60 guy who is sitting around telling stories about beta testers and how they did this thing we are about to do when it was much harder in beta and blah blah blah blah blah. I don't know if I can play and vomit at the same time, but that kind of pretentious drivel is almost guaranteed to induce stomach matter to try the escape hatch. For the past year, looking on the forums, with all the beta tester crap they have spewed, and how they were when the game "threatened" to go live, was just sickening. The sooner their chars are off the servers the better.

Again, apologies to the beta testers who would actually be cool to play with. The few, the proud, the unfortunate about to be deleted (hopefully).

They have never said that. What you heard were rumors.

Well.. the thing is that usually exploiters will be smart enough to not use exploits until the characters they are playing will always be there. In Lineage 2's case, theys aid they weren't going to wipe open beta characters from the beginning.

So, if there are exploits(which I'm sure there are), they probably won't be using them until release, or until an official statement from Blizzard saying characters will stay.

I sure hope that they wipe, even if they want an economy in place I always felt that beta characters needs to be wiped before actual release since such a game deserves a fresh start. the great influx of new players might be a downside but i can't tell at this point since I haven't made it into the beta yet :(
at least they can't claim that they'll lose their vet beta players this way because everybody is going to want to get into this game regardless of a wipe imho

I'll sure get into it but if I feel left behind too much on the beta players I might get bored and give up on the game, who knows.
oh well there is always EQ2 to try for, anyone knows if they wiped?

I have mixed feelings about this. I don't want a whipe because I hate starting from scratch again. Although, I'm pretty sure they made lvling easier in the closed beta. And if around lvl 40 you start hero quest, these lvl 60 people will already have a massive start. Well, now that I think about it, hero system won't be in till expansion? So I don't know what lvl high lvl people will do in retail for the first couple of months.

as long as there is at least 1 new, clean server, i couldn't care less either way.

Blizzard will wipe.  They had to close open beta because of the sheer amount of people that signed up.  They have to give everyone equal chance to participate or they would lose some serious PR. I guarantee a wipe.image
