Guild Wars: GW2 Team Growing, Still No Release Dates

SzarkSzark News ManagerMember Posts: 4,420

The folks at Guild Wars have posted a letter to the game's fans attempting to clear up rumors about delays and other troubles with Guild Wars 2, saying that there is still no set date for the game other than "when it's done" and that the team has been growing as a result of recent restructuring at NC West.

To our fans,

There have been some published rumors over the past few days about Guild Wars 2 delays, and I'm writing you today to set the record straight.

You've all seen announcements about restructuring at NCsoft West, and it's natural to wonder whether that restructuring impacts ArenaNet's Guild Wars 2 development. In fact, the reason NCsoft West is restructuring itself is so that the company can put all of its focus into its top-tier games like Guild Wars 2. Our team continues to grow, and has the strong support and financial backing we need to achieve our goal of making Guild Wars 2 the best online role-playing game ever created.

    Will wait.

"and we're going to take the time to do it right."

EXACTLY what many companies fail to do in this day and age. I trust ArenaNet will achieve their goal of the best MMO to date. I wait with bated breath.

Sorry but don't start of letter with "I'm here to set the record straight" only to do everything BUT set the record straight about anything. They majorly screwed up by blowing the whisle on GW2 and giving up on expansion/chapters of GW... Now fans have been waiting for a long time with no real update of anything that exciting and are expected to wait even longer...

I did nothing but praise Guild Wars because I thought it was a great game and no matter how upset I am I will still surely check out Guild Wars 2 because it will probably great... Still in my opinion Guild Wars has been nothing but a dissapointment as of late.

    Your post makes little sense.

Firstly, Mike did set the record straight. The latest rumours stated that Guild Wars 2 would experience delays because the team was being downsized due to NCsoft's restructuring. In this announcement Mike said that the restructuring would not affect the development of GW2 in any negative way. Quite the reverse actually.

Secondly, I don't see what the problem is with them having announced Guild Wars 2 already? Would you prefer them to have kept us all in the dark as to why new campaigns/expansions were not being released? Also, you complain about the sequel taking too long to be released, but then state that you would have them further prolong development of GW2 in order to release another expansion for the original?

Lastly, ArenaNet has announced a number of content updates due for Guild Wars this year and beyond...the first of which we'll see in April. Yes, they haven't announced actual playable content other than much-needed new features, but they did clearly state that they would not announce all the details of updates in order to surprise us.

Ultimately, I think people just need to learn to be patient. Too often do I read posts from people complaining about the latest MMOs being unfinished, buggy and unpolished messes, but when a company comes along that wants to take their time and release a product that stands out from the crowd in many respects, people still complain.

I can wait ofcourse but i really wish they start giving us some GW2 info. Anyways, I think Arenanet will do an awesome job with GW2 and when all is said and done the fans will be happy once again ;)

I'm kind of glad for the hush about GW2. it means when it does ever come out it will be a welcome surprise, getting hyped and following a game long before its released is a waste of time and leads to disapointment, but I cannot help myself.

my only doubt with GW2 is that GW:EOTN was a tird compared to the other games. just some pve content I completed in about a day or so, pretty drab lore about originally named badguys called "destroyers" and tolkien ripped dwarves and beornings... yawn. no pvp content/new classes which last for ages. guildwars always felt like two different games to me which weakened it, hopefully it will be better in GW2 but then they are keeping the lame eotn lore/races.

people oft forget that james phinney and his team are, and have always been the best of what blizzard north had to offer.

where do you think they learned the "when its done" philosophy?

also after pulling eric flannum back into the team after shiny entertainment was gobbled up, they have one of the best level and quest designers known to man also working on this title for the last few years (eric was responsible for every map that was badass in starcraft).

if blizzard gets forgiveness for a "when its done" philosophy, so should arenanet.

this game is going to kick ass

    Games i'm playing right now...

Doesn't their quarter report slate it for 2010 / 2011. I didn't expect it this year anyway.

Participated for a long time in Guild Wars beta and been a player since. For the inclusions they say will come with GW2 I can wait :)

And the kids also forget (assuming they knew) that there would have been no Warcraft/Starcraft/Diablo and Battlenet without those guys.

didn't somebody say the guy who coding the openworld/zoning system in wow is on the guildwars team so when they say persistant world for gw2 they probably mean it.
