whenever i go to their website it was always $39.99, BUT now their website is advertising $19.99. I know other store offer low prices. and for some time now they are still offering free mount.
I See a lot of good comments and some fixes and some population increase, but why such a bargain promo? it makes me wonder if all those good comment post in this forum are just funboys or failcom advertising thru forum post. and i notice that most not all, good comment lately on age of conan are novice, and just recently a member...makes me wonder if this game realy on the rise or still stagnant..

Ages ago? Really? Don't think it's even been out a year yet has it? I mean the game didn't last long past the original month for me but seriously this does not really bode well for the game. Well, maybe it's all ok. Anarchy Online has been chugging along for a few years now and its mostly free to play so I am pretty sure that that option will become available to AoC in the next year or so.
If we look at past games that have dropped that significantly in price within a year of their being released... let's see... off the top of my head Tabula Rasa, and well... nothing else really. Hell EQ expansions are still coming out at $39 a pop. I think this is an indicator that the devs and publisher are at the point where they don't think they can revitalize the game. Oh and btw you can pick it up for $19.90 at gamestop direct download. www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx

oh a price drop on the box of a mmo... thats... uncommon...
I think most games drop in price after a year.
As usual, we have the conspiracy theory crafters joining us.
Games drop in price over time. It's a natural occurence and not a reason for us to all run around in sackcloth covering ourselves in ash. Guild Wars, which is expected to reach 6 million account activations by the end of this quarter, sells for £24.99. This is the complete collection...in other words the original, which was released back in 2005, the two campaigns, and the expansion which was released near the end of 2007. The expansion has therefore been out for just over a year or so.
The exact same "phenomenon" is occuring with Age of Conan. I'm really not surprised people are complaining about a price drop...I mean all the old topics have been covered so now people need to get creative in their complaints.
I'm glad about the price drop, since they never offered a free trial. I was always interested in at least trying this game out and forming my own opinion of it. Epecially after I starting hearing about the fixes coming. But I'm not willing to drop 50 on a 90% flop. So now that it's $20, I just may try it out.
Currently Playing: Aion
Trying Out:
Retired: The Chronicles of Spellborn, EvE, LotRo, WoW, VG, AoC, CoX, RO
Waiting on: Blade & Soul, Black Prophecy, Global Agenda, The Agency, SW:ToR, T.E.R.A.
Working On: The 5th Dimension (coming soon)
In combination with the huge new patch coming today, this sounds like a good move from FC.
As usual FC is more interested in selling boxes than subscriptions. IF the game was complete and good, they'd be offering free trials.
The only game that is not desperate for subs is WoW, and even they have sales and special offers!
The real money is in the monthly subs, not the box sale. Makes sense to me that they'd drop the prices to encourage people to give it a go.

Why is that when there is a sale in the real world, say a gas war, or lawnmower sale, people say good deal and check it out. Yes sometimes they are desperate for new customers, and all the time they are looking for new customers.
But whenever there is a sale in an MMO it is automatically assumed they are desperate.
People are strange. Look people, there are some differences between an MMO and other services but it sill follows the same rules of business and advertising. Make sure people are aware, have a hook to draw them in, do whatever you can reasonably do to keep them.

Before the OP wets his pants in excitement over the "demise" of AoC, he is forgetting 2 things.
1. All prices (cept gasoline) have been coming down in recent months, due to the global recession. There is a good chance that if this keeps up much longer, many new titles coming out will not be the usual $50 we are used to paying. To use a coined phrase, "it's the economy, stupid".
2. The "mount" if you want to call it that, is a variation of the mammoth. It looks nifty, but how often would you actually use it? I mean sure, flashing a white elephant as you are sitting around waiting to begin a raid is "cool" and all, but it gets very old, very quick. And that, mon frere, is the most you will use this "free mount".

The game seems to fall apart after the inital storyline in Tortuga. I tried a number of characters to 20 and always lost intrest once I left the island. There's not enough quests, a crapload of bugs and and no real guidance of where to go. Plus they incorporate voice into the island and it just disappears once you leave. That was a huge disappointment to me.
lotro is 10 bucks, wow is probably 5, tbc is probably 10
every game gets cheaper , i dont see anything wrong with this, i bought dawn of war 40k soulstorm for 3 euros even from steam
OP point is probably about how fast the game went that cheap compared to the others. I dont think WOW went from 49.99 to 9.99 in the first year, same for LOTR.
Same here, except I wasn't in BETA.
The bugs are virtually gone. A few left, but I haven't crashed in the 2 months I've been playing.
I think people are jaded about the sub-par release and lies FC did, which I doubt they'll ever recover from fully. The game just won't reach the potential it could, b/c gamers of this genre have a hard time giving games a second chance. That coupled w/ the fact that many features on the box were lied about, makes it even tougher for FC to recoup. But, if you didn't play this game at launch, and are thinking about it, cheap copies on Ebay are everywhere. The game is in an extremely different state then at launch. Seiges still need some stability, but over all the PVE is fan-fuggin-tastic.
I love the feel - it's like a combination of 300 and Braveheart!

Nah its not uncommon for games to drop to about 20 bucks after a few months.......Wow is about that price (original) and I bought LoTRO for 10 bucks (i think it went up after MoM release but not sure)....... This is why alot of us say to wait a few months after a game releases.....By now you have plenty of info on AoC and you get a much better deal on it.....They have also had more time to improve the game (hopefully anyway).
I'd still like to see a trial. I'm a huge Conan fan and I was all set to jump to this before release, but WoW suddenly got a lot more fun for some reason and I stayed. I'm not going to be switching games in the forseeable future, but I'd still like to give AoC a decent go.
You can have more fun watching grass grow.. It's free to.
AOC may have gone down in price. But wow i bought 10 wow battlechest for $39.95 each, and wow lich king for $39.95 10 copies each. Wish wow had gone down in price.
Most MMOs go down in price quite fast, it is not box sales you get the money for anyways, it is the monthly fees.
Also, they earn more money if you buy the game virtual than in a store (Eidos get's piece of the action then, and the store) so not having a huge price makes a sense.
As for how well the game is doing, it is doing ok, the buggs are fixed but they still need to add content.
I think the only thing that hasn't suffer from deflation in the current markets is the food market. Gas has gone down in price in my area.
this is a pretty good deal tho and i think it could attract alot of new ppl to try the game
