how is crafting in eq2?

i was wondering about the crafting in eq2. i used to play horizons, and i never tried crafting before the merge happened. After the merge, this is how crafting was:

run out trees, chop them down,  run all the way back to town to make the resource into wooden boards,   run all the way back out to the actual resource area and make the final product.

Frankly, crafting that way bored the hell out of me and seemed more difficult and time consuming beyond reason.

I would like to be able to craft because it will probably appeal to me if it is done right.

IMO crafting in this game is gonna be far superior to all others. When u craft a sword for example, you enter like a mini game.. gotta keep enuff wood on the fire to keep the temps right.. gotta shape the sword without doing it too much or it will break and you'll take damage... the metal might start bending the wrong way and u gotta straighten it back out into place... probably the closest thing you'll be able to do in a game next to the real thing.

thanks for the site. One more question about crafting.I read somewhere that it is possible to set up a sort of shop if you own property. How is this done if there really is such a thing?Would be neat to be able to own a shop that people want to come to in order to buy stuff.

You have to be in your room to sell stuff.  You put yourself in 'vendor' mode and people can either buy stuff off of the black market or they can come directly into your room and buy from you.

You're in for a treat with crafting. I'm still thinking if it's even better than any other I've played. DAoC was a full grind. SWG was pretty intense crafting but I didnt do much. I would say that if its not the best, its almost the best.

just wanted to add another point, pretty much everything you need to craft you can buy from a vendor, usually where the crafting places are, but you have the choice to go out and find them yourself if you wanted to make them cheaper to build.

k sounds good. And to go off topic from eq2, does anybody know if it is possible to run games from a hard drive via USB 2.0? My laptop hard drive is kinda small for the 10 gig install or thats what i heard.
