Id love to answer your question since i did start out on the trail and just recently bought the box set for 20$
playonline does not show me that after my trail ill get my 30 day free from the box. but since today is a holiday i cannot call them up to see how it works.
as of now just do your trail and test the game out. pity is that you wont recive any info of what to do that is included with the game box. to ease your start id reccomend you seek help from another player, the community is very helpful.
The game does play better with a controller. although the keyboard is ok it will take alot to get used to as it plays very different than other mmos. get to the config menu by hitting - key and make sure you select the compact keyboard which will give you access to the wasd movement.

yes the trial and free month do indeed stack. I took advantage of the 14 day trial and then bought the vana'diel 2008 collection. I activated the game at the end of the trial and got a total of 44 days free with the trial + 30 day time.
