Just posting that be wary if you join eve uni some of the veterans and other members in that corp are nice , but i was with eve uni for just over a month and can say some of the officers are really bossy with huge friggen ego's , especially acacia and i hope that australian ego wench actually learn to be respectful for once with newbs rather then blast them everytime someone makes a mistake
Acacia retired from Eve University several months ago. Personally the only problems I ever saw between Acacia and someone else was if that someone else brought an attitude, even then she had more patience the I would've had.
if i am not mistaken today is a fleet class on eve university at 21:00 evetime

I myself never attended Eve University, as I was taught by grizzled veteran buddies of mine when I joined, but I know that it is the best place to go to learn the ins and outs of eve if you are a newb without prior connections. Anyone who is new and reads this thread, If you are a little overwhelmed and have no one to help you or teach you the game (advanced stuff not tutorial crap) then sign up to eve uni, you won't be dissapointed.
Yup eve uni is great, its where I went to learn when I was a nub. They really treat you with more kid gloves than any other corp, and the tax is like 2.5%, lowest you'll find. There is also an interesting song you can find on the interwebs called "Tribute to Sabre A" which is about an ex uni member which is pretty funny.
Is EvE University still taking in new players? I have been enticed by EvE for awhile and I am about to give it a try. Downloading the game now and working on getting a 23 day key. If I can find a corp that will help me with the learning process then I will resub no problem.

i have been playing eve on and off since late 2007. Ive been in a few corps that have failed to really help me learn about the game. A couple of weeks ago i joined EVE university and it's the best decission i have made in the game so far.
It's not just the in game help you get with these guys but there forums are a treasure trove of info about the game.
What's also great is the lectures and classes that occur almost daily for that little bit of extra help. For anyone who has never made it past the trial or their first month then join this corp you will not regret it.
LOL really i'm glad to hear that that's best news i've heard coming out of eve in a long time , Anyways not everyone is gonna like each other and that's a given , While you may have liked acacia doesnt mean everyone did Not only did i leave eu because of the way she was sometimes but i had lost two very good friends because of how bossy and rude she could be on ts during a few ops .
Like i said you wanna preach on how good eve university is you go right ahead , But i will never forget how some of their teachers have treated some of their students in the past for even some of the most simple mistakes they made and this is a corp that is very forgiving sure right you keep telling yourself that .
Maybe you were one of those people that refused to follow the rules, so she brought the hammer down.

I am going to say, the only reason I didn't join EVE U, and probably never will, is because it has a 100% tax rate. Talk to me again when it gets lowered to maybe 20%. idc how good a corp is, if it doesn't offer me some moolah, I aint joining, I will look up what I need to know online with the IGB.
If you have ever seen them in action you know how good they are. The lessons they give under very difficult situations are for new players that really want to learn the game. They have to hold themselve to high standards and at the same time are under constant attack. Because of this players come out with a great understanding of the game.
Not every player is cut out for this!
Wow. I didn't know that. I just checked up on it and EVE-U's tax is infact 100%
Don't join EVE Uni. That's pretty messed up in a game that doesn't have levels and money is king. Honestly, I'm shocked. What a crock of **** to take money from newbies claiming to teach them. I don't care what they teach people, w/e they teach you, you can get from any corp recruiting new players. If anything, everyone should mail them and tell them their corp is BS and if you have pull in a corp, war dec their asses.

LOL.....EVE University tax rate is 3% I believe. Not sure exactly what it is now but it's very low. Often when Corps are at war (especially noob empire corps) they will raise the tax rate to 100% to prevent certain activities. Having people doing whatever in a time of war is very dangerous for the whole corp. It has nothing to do with the amount of money they take from players, and in fact one of the things they teach is how to make money in a time of war….LOL
However, the post in this thread is nothing compared to the assaults this corp faces in game, and is the main reason their grads are so good.

still at 100%, and nothing about a war... hmm....
It's 100% I checked it after I read that guy's post about it being 100%.
Check it if you don't believe me.

Awww you took away their golden nugget. Meany.

Ah, makes sense then. I had never actually looked at them till today, I guess it was bad timing.

I had read it on several forums before : )
It figures I looked at them the first time right on the 2nd...
I was in the uni from August to November of this year. Tax is 0.1% except during wartime, at which it is 100%.
Mining and missioning during wartime is not allowed as it gives the enemy easy kills.
You can drop corp and still have access to the chat channels/forums/classes which is the most valuable part of the uni anyway. Alliance and corp chat is only for forming fleets and requesting skillbooks and such, general chat is done in a passworded public channel so people in NPC corps don't miss out on having other unistas to talk to or get help from.
The uni has been at war the past couple days, and before that they were in another war that lasted 2 weeks.
About the Egos in Eve.
Yeah, they are there, and they are quite stinky for sure.. My advice... Sap them dry for info., player tutorials, and secrets. Their egos are so big that they are overflowing, and they love to give great information, and they will gladly do it every time-- if you are humble enough when you approach them. After that, if they still bother you, just continue to build yourself up as efficiently as you can until you can become an EGO yourself.
enjoy

There are problems with Eve Uni that mostly relate to the faildec's that they get nailed with here and there.
2 man moron corp decides to wardec the uni so they can freely pot-shot n00bs for ez-killz.
If those retards bothered to read the rules of the university they'd know that won't work out well for them.
War time rules: Station spin unless you're in/joining a fleet. No flying missions, no mining, etc...
The uni tends to lose about 120 or so members every wardec as folks step out for the duration of the war. With ~1,300 members that's a small chunk of change and it lets those members continue their "peaceful" game play.
During war, the tax rate is set to 100% to discourage and help track those who are breaking the rules. They track/monitor members. Out of war -- the last "break" had it at 1% tax rate.
As such, many find the rules a bit nasty to live with but they are there for a reason. At one point the uni had up to 8 or so different wardecs backlogged as the scum kept trying to nail newer players who were mission running, etc... so they eliminated all non-war related activities while a wardec is active. So only war related fleet ops tend to go on while a war is in progress.
That generally leaves only the retarded PvP morons, that can't read the rules and see that they are enforced, as those who'll wardec the uni and there are still a good number of those idiots in the game so wardec's are fairly common, though not "quality" PvP types declaring them. Only the pond-scum variety.
The uni has a lot of info and training to offer new players but, again, those war time rules are enforced and yeah, they do punt a few (dozens at times) who don't think that those API keys let them track who's following what rules or not. They do track the members and do kick those who break the rules out with very little to no tolerance for rule violations.
If the rules work, they'll take anyone and they help out a lot -- free skill books up to 1m cost, sometimes half-price book deals for more expensive books, ships provided for wartime use, etc... but it's follow the rules and that doesn't go over well with some.
I spent some time in EVE University as a student when I first started playing in early 2006, and maintained a friendly relationship with the Uni after I moved to lowsec to join a (completely awesome, IMO) pirate corporation.
EVE is a harsh game, and EVE University reflects that. It has its "Professor Snape" instructors, its "scary psychopath" instructors, and its "egocentric control freak" instructors. Not all of them are bubbly, cheerful, and unfailingly helpful... but that's a good thing, in my opinion. Keeps things interesting, keeps you on your toes, et cetera. And yes, if a student is particularly slow or dense, they'll catch a bit of abuse; if they're an idiot, they'll probably quit the game (but this would be true whether they joined EVE University or not).
Despite that (and/or because of it), EVE University is at heart a fine, trustworthy institution that will ultimately do right by its students. But you do have to behave as though you're a student just like in a real-life military academy, if you smart off to the instructors or upperclassmen, try to become the center of attention, act in a disruptive manner, act like a know-it-all, or ignore the rules, bad things can happen.
Most of all, be patient, be flexible, be earnest, and go with the flow. Don't freak out and try not to get discouraged. And as always in EVE, getting blown up is part of the learning process.
