Gandolf <sp> was the sort of magic toon that I love to play in an mmo. the RK is pretty good, closest so far, but where is the true wizzard? I admit i am not super familiar with the lore, but we have Gandolf...
Wizards of Gandolf's pedigree, were few and far between in the lore. That is much of the reason why the whole Middle Earth knew the name when they heard it. The Rune Keepers however, could be more numerable as not a whole lot was said about them, as there was the Order Gandolf belonged to.
Waiting for- Tera, Jumpgate Evo, WH40K, WWE, WOD, TSW -- -- "Hey, if Activision liked it, then they should have put a ring on it," Double Fine President Tim Schafer said. "Oh great, now Beyonce is going to sue me too."

There are only 5 in the world, and you cant be one of them. LOTR is during the time when magic is dieing from the world.

what he said.....pure magic user's are all but extinct in Middle Earth during this time.
Gandalf , Saruman, Radagast (and two unnamed ones) are Miaar. They are something like demigods, angels. They are not human. And are send by gods to help people of middle earth fight evil - but not with their spells - rather than with advices and diplomacy.
There is no magic. But there are powers. And supernatural beings are able to infuse some of the powers to other. Like Sauron infused Nazgul with his power. Or Galadriel got some power from deity of forests.
So even Runekeepers are far fetched...
But Turbine bended the rules a bit to please the crowd
Hmmmm...it would be cool to play. I assume as you get higher in levels in the class they approach the five in power?
No.

I am personally 100% happy with the runekeeper It is an enjoyable class to play and it does a good job of giving lotro a 'magic' class. although (and I not sure on the lore) I would love to be a man runekeeper
