lotro is a decent enough game but they do seam to have some problems with thier billing espeacially in europe . sometimes its not enough just to cancel your account on thier accounts page you also have to cancel through paypal ( if you use that option ) or you may find they keep charging you as they did me . also codemasters/turbine are very badly run so its nearly impossible to get that money back from them .
if your thinking of playing . get a timecard . personally i dont trust them at all with my credit information anymore .
If you like the WOW style of gameplay, LotRO would be a great choice for you. Great community, interesting questions, very cool game world.
But, if you are like me and looking for something besides level based, quest driven gaming with less emphasis on PVP then LoTRO isn't what you are after.

Eh isnt that pretty obvious?
If WoW = The Beatles and WAR = Led Zeppelin Then LotrO = Pink Floyd
I find lotro a very enjoyable experience, but I do like PvE as has been said there is not alot (if anything) for a PvPer. If you enjoy the lore then you will enjoy this.
WoW is dead now that it's arena or bust but LOTRO isn't perfect tbh. I have tried twice and both times I've hit a levelling wall at round level 20. People admitting that there is no end-game content doesn't sound very promising either, WoW has good mid-game PvE and end-game PvE so how is it going to be an upgrade is LOTRO has no good end-game or mid-game PvE ?:P

I quit WoW recently and tried the lotro trial. The game seems very polished, and the fun factor was a lot higher then other mmorpgs. But, it just didn't have that hold on me that WoW and EQ2 did. I did quest after quest, finished a few chapters. I assumed before I started this game that lotro had many group instances littered throughout the world. I was disappointed to find that the first group instance does not appear until you are above level 20.
The crafting seems just like wow's crafting. The pve was easy. Players were nice, and I was surprised at how many new players I found.
I first rolled a lore-master, then a rune-keeper, and finally, a hunter. I enjoyed the rune-keeper the most and found it funny how they actually rate each classes' difficulty level.
The lore is constantly being thrown at you. This is the most story driven game I think I have played. But, I uninstalled today. Personally, while this game is a very good mmorpg from my limited trial experience, I still feel WoW is better. But hey, if you are burnt out from wow, give lotro a shot.
Everything else is poster's oppinion and at the end of the day, your own oppinion is the one that matters.
Only piece of advice I will give you is to get into a RP Kinship as soon as possible. Kinships raises the game a lot in my oppinion and is (generally speaking) more rewarding than in most other MMOs.

Playing: AC2
Played: UO, DaoC, Horizons, Ryzom, WAR, LotRO, Eve, VG...
I have been thinking about dropping in again and playing.
I was part of the Beta but never bought a membership after it was over. I do love LoTRs though...

So after three weeks of playing, I'd say absolutely yes. The game is growing on me, whereas in most games I start tiring out after 3 weeks anymore
Back in EvE. Started with BatMUD. Main MMOs have been EvE and DAoC.
Graphics: Lotro wins
Immersion: Lotro wins
Roleplaying: Lotro wins
Character customization: Lotro wins
PVE: Hard to say, both good
PVP: Wow wins
Unless you are a pvp fan and love to have the occasional unexpected pvp experience out in the open world, I'd say Lotro is your game.
My brand new bloggity blog.
go to brandywine server , get a character up to lvl 10 then make a monster player , so fun....

There is only one way to really determine if it is worth moving to a new game. Try it.
