How long till the first PvP server goes live? Any guesses? How long did it take them to put Rallos Zek up in EQ1 after launch? I can't wait!!!! EQ2 is gonna Rock!!!
Oh, I know.... EQ2 wasn't designed for PvP. EQ2 is a PVE game. The classes aren't balanced. I'm not playing if its PvP. SONY has said there will be no PvP. Barsel, Barsel, Barsel.... HA HA!!!!!
Stand aside then boy... Just let me know how long till that first PvP server goes up. If you can't run with the big dogs then you're gonna have to stay on the porch!!!!!
Assassin, Necro, Shadow Knight, lets just get down to the nitty gritty, shall we? How long till that first PvP server comes up, any guesses?

Never.
Devs said never.
...
not sure i'm following you there - but in any case, if they do decide to make a PvP server, it won't be for quite a while yet. eq2 isn't made for PvP - they'll have to almost re-design the entire game to make it for PvP.
so in short, the answer is: doubt it
Let World of Warcraft out-sell out-subscribe EQ for a few months and you'll see how quick that changes.
Simply and truthfully stated: No one knows when PvP will be implemented
I don't know about a PvP server...but the DEVs have already discussed PvP will be added in the future...not just right now
People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.
I still cant figure it out, is it Freeport VS Qenos? Good Vs Evil? so you fight The Freeport Playes if ur good? or is there no Player Against Player period....? cause when they first lunched the eq2 site, they said Good VS Evil, i took that literely, as in good Players vs Evil players in combat.....
PS: sorry if theres a lot of mistakes, im doing this on my phone....

Well, the devs haven't actually said that they will be implementing PvP, but they have strongly hinted at it.

Now you boys don't believe for a second that Sony is going to suffer the loss of any revenue to the likes of Blizzard or anyone else over a small little issue like PvP, do you? When everything else gets straight, Sony's gonna make a nice little Hell Server for all the rotten players like me. You know why? Because Sony wants to lose as little money as they can to the likes of Blizzard, Orgin or whatever their name is. Sony is all about the cash. Reporting up to senior management and telling them what the numbers are. And if someone in senior management does a little analysis study and shows that there is money to be made in PvP, well. And if there is an extra server cluster sitting around that's not really doing anything useful, well.......
But I really like that line of thinking about the good verses evil on the blue servers. That offers a ray of hope. Nothing like a good spanking on a cloudy day. You think this will happen in the form of special PvP zones?
I don't think EQ2 is much worried about WoW....its the fanboys on each side that try so hard to pit the two games against each other. It seems obvious that SOE and Blizzard are each going for a different share of the market. SOE = PvE, Blizzard = PvP.
SOE isn't in it for the short term so I don't see them making any drastic changes in their game because some other game out sells it for a couple of months and I don't doubt that WoW will outsell EQ2 initially, Warcraft has a huge following, but based on my own experience WoW will not hold players for as long as EQ2.
EQ1 started PvP with an ingame flag, you could choose to be PvP if you wanted, no dedicated PvP servers, but there was so little interest in it that you seldomly saw a red person. Because of lack of competition and a growing interest in PvP SOE did finally open up some PvP servers. But that was back in 1999/2000 when there were no PvP MMORPGs of the same quality as EQ1.
Now there are plenty quality PvP alternatives and no real competition for a quality PvE MMORPG. So I'd be surpised to see SOE spend the time, effort and money to enter the already saturated PvP MMORPG market. Why do it when they can corner the PvE MMORPG market, it doesn't sound like a very good business decision to me.
PvP'ers seem to think that every gamer is a PvP'er, but in fact a lot of gamers don't much care of PvP in a MMORPG. For example, in its hayday EQ1 had 3(?) PvP servers and 25+ PvE servers, obviously there are a lot of people who prefer PvE to PvP.
Melanoma That right there is the best statement i have seen on any forum.....
All bow to Melanoma!!

In the PVE severs in eqLive the allowed duels so dont make it seem like the PVE severs were devoid of all forms of pvp. When most people say "pvp" what the really mean is duels. I like dueling but im not a fan of all out open pvp unless its in a designated zone. Eq2 is going to burn for their forced questing and lack of dueling. I remember the devs in EQOA kept saying that they had no plans for adding duels to game but when people started growing tired of the kill predictable npc mob and started to quite in mass numbers they quickly released duels in all severs. I have a copy of eq2 pre ordered which im going to cancel tommorow cause the is really nothing in this game with the exception of the graphics that appeals to me. I cant stand the conning system with the tons of arrows that tell you how combat with an npc is going to end. Im not a big fan of questing since its basically running around doing fed ex/kill X number of mobs for some silly npc. I only followed this game cause EQOA was my first mmorpg and i figured eq2 would improve on what EQOA had but its seems like the devs have taken a completely different route that goes against all of my interested. The only feature that eq2 has now that im interested is the mini raids/group based combat but in it self is not enough to make me spend countless hours lvling up if i cant have a bit of fun dueling with buddies. Eq2 would probably be a great game but I just cant justify paying for a game with forced questing and to make matters worst a lack of pvp. Looks like its WoW for me.
WoW has forced questing as well, actually questing is only way to level in WoW...atleast in EQ2 grouping is an option...in WoW people will laugh you out if you ask if they want to group....I betaed WoW for month, then got burnt out...You Max your character soo fast and after that, all there is to do is repetive, meaningless pvp that'll keep you entertained for week at max.
I never seen the devs say there will be no pvp.
EQ2 appeals a lot to PvE folks so this are the folks they will focus on first then pvp.
SoE like all companies like $$$$ so i am almost certain they will add pvp to attract the extra customers even if the pvp is crap.

Trolls and Elves held hands in EQlive for 5 years for over 2 million accounts played at some point with still 500k active accounts so see no problem with them holding hands in EQ2.
Guess different people expect different things from games is all.
There really are battles your team will fight against a npc controlled team and thats about it.
I am personally against pvp, maybe because i started my gaming experience in RPGs with AD&D, maybe cos i play games like theese for fun.
Imo griefers make the core of pvp fans. Sexually frustated ppl, and socially frustaded ones make the core of pvp fans in any game, one more reason for me to give 100% credit to Sony for not putting pvp in eq2.
Seeing a 40 yo guy killing in the game a 9 or 10 yo kid its not by any means my idea of having fun. You want pvp ? Get some box gloves and get into a ring if you have the guts for it. Bet most pvp fans dont.

What a crock of frickin craparini. I play PvP in all games along with two of my good friends. My sex life is better than most other people's on their best day, thanks to my more than supportive and gorgeous wife (Granted, I am a lucky man). Both of my friends have very attractive wives, one of them has three kids. As for being socially frustrated, I am doomed to be a casual player in all of these games BECAUSE of my social and work life.
Your "honest" opinion is dead wrong. I've listened to blubies make that argument for far too long. Most guys play PvP because it adds another dimension to the game. We require a greater human factor in our gaming. AI gets boring fast. After the 100th time you've heard that orc say: "you high elves have ruined your own lands, you'll not ruin mine", you know another dimension is needed. Some people (like you perhaps) just need that extra security that a non pvp environment provides them. Nuff said.
There is a difference between Griefers and PvP's
It's a mixed bag of player types in all actuality...I fall in the same category as nonjonron in many way. (wife and work & kids = non hardcore player)
But I do feel that the actually "Griefers" tend to represent themselves as immature adolecent punks with a "kick the dog" mentality. Which without proper rules and mechanics in place ,allows the majority of PvP games to go downhill fast and become abused. And puts a bad light on the entire PvP practice.
But with careful thoughtout designs it could be very fun and adictive and challenging! I'm still waiting for that game to be made LOL

Aernyith a question for you about your profile text. "You just got got owned by a girl." The got got reminds me of an old visual/mental trick wherein if a person sees something like
blabla got
got blabla
They will interperate it as a single got. The rest of the statement supports that.
Just wondering if that's what it's ment to be?
(Also, those gots appear on the same line. The trick would be MUCH more effective if you could make them appear on seprate lines.)
^^
No doubt. The ACT of griefing, or those who play that way, probably are those immature little dorks mentioned in that referenced quote. PVP, in and of itself, though, is actually quite fun...and playing in that kind of arena doesn't necessarily point to any specific character traits...
believe me..there be plenty of the above mentioned dweebs in EQ 2, pvp or not.
Personally, I favor pvp...I played actively in EQ on both the care bear and pvp servers...each was a decidedly different game. My hub played both as well, and I can tell you he's certainly not socially frustrated, and he definitely does "get it" more than enough to not be considered sexually frustrated either :-P
in fact, I'd say we, much like the poster above, would probably be called caual players simply BECAUSE of our social lives...you know..real people, actual voice conversation..etc.
i dont mean dueling or a designated zone when i say PVP.... i dont like the banks to be safe from PVP either... or bazaar style zones....
give me my lvl restrictions and let me kill someone

Your view is in the minority. If you make open pvp it would just be abused. Having an arena where single players/groups/guilds can meet up to do battle is better for the game. That way the is no grieving because every 1 knows what they are going to do in an arena... Cant report to the devs for having the sh it beat out of you in the arena
