Character creation inexistant?

DarkWolfyDarkWolfy Member UncommonPosts: 71

I just downloaded the trial, the Island, and as I try to create alts I realise the character creation is inexistent, it's impossible to choose the look of my alts. Already it starts bad the graphics are ugly enough, I was hoping to make my best to make pretty alts, instead I'm stucked with fugly alts. I've only seen that with F2P asian MMOs, not with one that requests a paying monthly fee. Seems to me though it said on the website there are a lot of ways to make your alts at the creation and yet I see none of it.

But yeah its silly it dosent ask you right there how you want them to look.

I'm not even positive I know what you are saying, but there is extensive character customization available.  You must be missing something.  It's been awhile since I created a new character, but I think you pick your server, then pick your race, then pick your class and then pick your name.  Submit that and if your name is not already taken, then you are put into the customization screen where you can modify damn near anything on your character.

One of the things I like about VG character customization is you can recognize everyone by their looks without ever seeing their name.

Unless they don't allow character customization for the Free Trial??  I suppose that is possible to minimize the size of the client download, but would certainly be unwise since creating and customizing a character is a lot of fun in Vanguard and would certainly be something they'd want new players to experience.

I found it! It's right after you pick your server, but I think it's dumb, I love making a female and male version of a class and look to see which one I prefer, impossible to do this in Vanguard, you really have to create the alts first. Ah well, I have to go, I'll dabble with the game later. Thanks for the tips!

Its verry Odd tbh.. In beta and at launch you Could pick and change it when you created your toons.. Now you cant. Either it made sense to someone OR it was a quick fix for something...

Not sure where the problem is. I log in, make new char, choose class, choose server, customize toon.

    Was never different to me.

    Is the trial different?

  • droppdropp Member UncommonPosts: 93

the trial isn't different, the OP just missed it (and i understand why he did, as it works differently than most other MMOs).

regardless, i still think the character creation is lacking in hair-styles and faces. every time i try to make a character i feel i don't have many choices that greatly differ one character from another.

on another note, i think the game is amazing thus far so i can't let such little things disturb me (:

(this game has the best skies i've seen in an MMO.)

So lets get this straight. You actually got confused at the character creation stage? LMAO!

All you had to do was click on a few buttons to proceed! I'm afraid you are going to find the rest of the game VERY challenging.

But yeah the character models do look incredibly stupid. Thankfully the rest of the game is pretty good and does actually compensate for this. Also as you proceed through the game you will come across monsters that look extremely good. Just wait until you encounter giant spiders once you get off the island! Yikes!

Its unfortunate though that whoever was responsible for creating the humanoid models had absolutely no idea what they were doing. The difference between the incredibly shitty character "dolls" and the awesome monster models is very noticeable.

Yeah I agree. Its not just that the hair styles are so lacking. Its also the fact that the hairstyles which are available look pathetic. I realise that the devs might not be able to spare the time to fix the ugly player avatars but they could at the very least give us some decent hair styles to try and offset their ugly faces.

Apart from this the game is pretty good.

They are not so bad, even though the number of hairstyles to chose from are kinda pathetic, someone here said that they will be adding more soon.

The faces look ok to me, not as good as those in AoC but still better than LOTROs avatars. Still, that and the trees are the points they could improve, it is comparibly little work that makes the game look a lot better.

They are going to be adding more hairstyles? I hope thats true......or is that just wishful thinking on someone elses part?

I think there is rather a lot of work required to make the character models look good actually. I have said this before in other threads. They really need to fix the anatomy of the avatars, which is also the same models they use for the npcs because they look completely wrong. The artists really need to take a look at real human anatomy. Not only that but the rigid way they stand with an invisible stick shoved up their arse needs to be fixed as well. They dont look natural at all.

Adding diversity to the different races would also be great too but I'm not sure they will ever be able to do that due to the way the game seems to use a universal body model for every race. Its just a shame really because the animal races in particular look ridiculous with animal heads stuck on top of badly made human bodies.

But I'm sure this is all moot anyway as they have so many other things to fix. I doubt the avatars are ever going to look much better than they currently do. Oh well I will have to make do with my lifeless plastic doll with no hair and just do my best to cover him up in armour to hide his ugly visage.

Yeah, more and more hairstyles are becoming available.  They put an intern to work on hair.... hehe, good job for an intern.  But it still has had a very positive impact... folks are really enjoying it.

Between the new hair styles and armor customizaiton, fashion shoes are popping up. :)

Oh that is good news! More variety.....and some of them look quite good.

I'm jealous of the intern working on it. I need to get back to practicing my 3d modeling.......

They also added an appearance slot like eq2 so now people can really get into achieving that unique personal look.  Not that VG wasn't already heads and shoulders better then many games on equipment appearances.

    now they need tails....
